Hey SW. Some weeks ago I posted a thread in which there was some DA2 gameplay. Here is some more.

This is the exaggerated version of the game (The story is told in a "Framed Narrative", the dwarf we see at the end (Varric) is telling the story of Hawke (the main character) to Casandra (A templar inquisitor who is interested in Hawke), he will exaggerate the beginning (that is why the Darkspawn (enemies) literally explode) )

Just exactly what kind of game do you think this is? :?

Anyways, I really prefer the DAO system where its all tactics and spellcasting orientation, while having a pause button.

As a BioWare fan, I'm kinda disappointed by that gameplay footage of DA2. It looks like Fable's combat style mixed with Dynasty Warriors. I know BioWare is well known for their highly praised RPG's but I think their taking "action RPGs" a little too far. Still it's too early to judge so I'm hoping that's not the final build on the combat.

what kind of change would you expect to see? The game has turned into an RPG hack and slash..plain and simple.

Umm action rpg why? I've seen plenty of action rpgs with block buttons. I was just curious if there was going to be one or not and i saw controls and noticed that there isn't.

Im going to go with a wait on see approach on this one. I have yet to be honestly disappointed with a Bioware product so much like with Blizzard I will always give them the benefit of the doubt. Mass Effect 2 which was their most action oriented title to date was right up there with some of their best games. Yes it looks very rough now, extremely so even, but given the pedigree I will argue that this game is an AAA in the making

Haters gonna hate. I still don't think it looks great but it looks like a massive improvement over DA:O as far as consoles are concerned. Looks can be decieving however. It's also funny how so many don't seem to grasp the 'over-exaggerated story' aspect.

I liked the old combat system (on PC) and the old dialogue system. But whatever, if the characters are good I'll love it like most Bioware games, it's a bit of a shame thought that even the one remaining old-school RPG had to be changed like this. Looks AA, but for me it will be AAA (I hope).

I think they said that in the PC version, you'll be able to do everything you could do in Origins.

So I guess we'll have our tactical combat after all :P Hopefully

And tbh, that looks more like console gameplay, judging by both combat and graphics.

And you believe that the PC version ill be a totally different game, with more spells, better AI, and more strategy? Please, there's probably not enough spells in this game to fill up the tactics panel in DA. Don't be naive, the PC version will be a dumbed down piece of crap too, just like Mass Effect 2 on PC was no different than the console version.

Link You can read the enitre thread, but it's mentioned in the OP. For example : "Eh, only sorta. The controls are very different between PC and console, so the experience of playing it is different, but from a "how does it play" standpoint, not from a "how does it look" standpoint. To translate that fight into PC controls you would right click on foes to attack. Press number keys or click on the icons on your quickbar to fire off your moves/spells, and so on. (Protip: exactly like Origins except faster, more responsive and generally a lot more fun to watch.)" There are lots of dev posts in there.

I played and finished Dragon Age Origins in 4 days last week and thoroughly enjoyed it although the combat system could have been better. The video seems to show less clunky combat and more ability for multi-hit attacks which is good.

They made it more similar to witcher in terms of camera perspective and turn the combat system into an action hack and slash....nice!!

Watches more of the video.....make that alot hack and slash, might as well buy fable 3 instead

Anyway i like the cinematic feeling.

It looks like Mass Effect with swords and sorcery. They stripped away command layering and instead put in real time button fighting with a quick menu, similar to ME's radial menu. I wouldn't be surprised if they stripped away any sort of deep character skill tree

It isn't 'atrocious' it just doesn't belong in a DA game.

hmm mass effect 2 gameplay looked better then 1 IMO... and dragon age 2 is looking better then 1... there 2nd games look better IMO!! reason i didnt get the 1st dragon age is cause the combat turned me off.... Though i still probably wouldnt get this one..not a fan of the whole 'LOTR / elf ' theme... will be picking up mass effect 2 though...sci fi cant go wrong! :)

No, that sounds like bull to me. It is not more fun to watch, it looks terrible. There are fights that are more easily won when you take 100% full control of each and every action a team mate takes, fights that were not just attack and wait for it to finish.

I am 100% sure that there won't be any fights in DA2 nearly as hard as some in DA1, its not like DA1 was hard in any regard, but I'm expecting it will get even easier. If I wanted dynasty warriors, I would play that, otherwise I was hyped for sooooooooooooooo long for Dragonage, and it mostly delivered, a bit too close to the LOTR plot and such, but still a great game. I enjoyed it a lot more than Mass Effect at least, and now their like hey, lets take a game that sold crazy well, and make it terrible, to appeal to console gamers, cause apparantly thats what they want in games. :|

My hype is probably around about an A, but regardless, it's got 'Bioware' written on the box so reviewers will praise it highly. I suspect that the game is just badly represented by that gameplay footage, though. I didn't think DA2 would be particularly good, but surely it can't be *that* bad.

The people bashing or moaning... Do you realise the game is nowhere near finished? Maybe it's just a demo of the attack system, with no defending involved? Just a thought... Like the GT5 demos, they didn't put everything in as it really isn't neccessary to have the weather system to preview the damage system... It just means more work to put things in that won't be shown.

The game's coming out in under six months, surely they'd have the basics of the combat system all ironed out by this point.

Anyway, I wouldn't be surprised if blocking was automatic.

guys it seems it more like an action RPG, which is fine for me, we all love diablo, so why are we upset about this then. People need to stop being butthurt. "OMG CASUALIZATIONZZZ!!!" when Diablo 1 and 2 were one of the most simplistic games out there. Game was not complex, it was easy to understand, the combat was simple but awesome, and the story was sweet, and yet people are angry over this. Maybe get off your training wheels and play a game that moves faster than 2 miles per hour. you know what go, play some quake live, that will man you up a bit.

tactical veiw sucked i only used it very sparingly, it never felt right in dragon age 1, for me it only works in baldurs gate series, other than that it felt like I neede to be down there in the combat seeing the dudes fight. Isometric view overrated.

Another example of how consoles ruin gaming in general. The console crowd just like to mash buttons without any thinking involved.
