It's certainly different, but it doesn't look that bad. Enemy AI seemed kinda lackluster, but if they pull off what they're going for I'll be excited. It kinda reminds me of Jade Empire where it was a mix of a ninja gaiden type game and a RPG. Hopefully the action elements of DA2 won't feel like the worst action game ever like JE did.
Why is everyone saying that you can't pause? The guy in the video didn't but he still had all of the move icons refreshing and stuff. There's a guy on Giant Bomb who played the same way during their coverage of part one. I thought it was odd, but that's how some people like to play the game. The only thing the video showed me is that unpaused sword combat will be way more fluid and action game like. Hopefully it fixes the issue where an enemy raises his sword at you, you run 50ft away before they swing yet you still take damage from attack which came nowhere near hitting you. I always hated that all the way back since KOTOR. They call combat real time but it feels like it's turn based and each combat turn starts on the first frame of animation for an attack, so no matter whether you dodge the attack or not, your position for calculating damage and stuff was already locked in before any damage happens.
