HDMI has also started being put into at least the premium systems. So I'm guessing the extra heatsync, 65nm chips, new DVD player and HDMI have all been coming with systems made in July and beyond.

http://www.engadget.com/2007/08/08/xbox-360-premium-confirmed-shipping-with-hdmi/

Before you buy a 360, I would ask to see the manufacture date. If it is July 4, 2007 and after, then you should be good to go.

Don't put the cart before the horse. I mean given Microsoft's reputation with the 360, shouldn't you let them prove that their 360's are now reliable rather then just giving them the benefit of the doubt?

Where's the proof for 65nm? HDMI is proved b/c they actually are playing it with HDMI, but they give no proof for 65nm. I won't buy one until it's proved.

It has been a proven fact for a while now that the main problem with the 360 was the lack of an extra heatsync. Many people have even moded their 360s, put in an extra heatsync before they even had problems. The new 65nm chips run a lot cooler than their 90nm brothers, plus MS is keeping in the extra heatsync, plus adding a quieter DVD player, plus adding HDMI.

I don't know?

Any way, it says in the gamespot article that they are continuing to upgrading the 1,700 internal componentsof the 360:

"We are constantly updating the console's more than 1,700 internal components and therefore will not comment on details of specific components or manufacturing processes,"

I guess Engadget is guessing as well then:

"we present the first of many you'll be seeing with the much-discussed, built-in HDMI port (and obviously the cooler 65nm chips onboard)."

Ok is there any DEFINITE proof that these 360s contain the 65nm chips? Did any site actually take the 360 apart and measure whether the chips are 65 or 90? Until there's proof that the 360 has them and until it's proved that having it solves 360's issues, it's still as risky as ever, only cheaper.

They actually showed proof that HDMI is there by saying that people are actually playing with that. Did they show any proof other than that line that 65nm is there? No, and until then, it's speculation.

Well the 65nm chip has been in production for the last 2 quarters according to Engadget and the 45nm chips are on the way:

"The newer 65nm chip which the company produces for Microsoft went into production over the last two quarters, and Chia Song Hwee, Chartered's president and CEO, said that "you would expect 45nm to come on stream about 18 months from that timeframe."

http://www.engadget.com/tag/65nm/

Knowing this, I highly doubt MS would make a huge change like adding HDMI, while also having their chips in production for 6 months, without putting the new chips in as well. All of your naysaying, doom and gloom posting won't change that fact.

That has yet to be seen. I hope the chip fixes it, but we don't know yet. And I am not the one to drop $400 to be a lab rat and find out. Of course with me having a PC, I don't want one anyways. I want a PS3.

They were since their new update with official MS word has no mention of that:

Sorry early adoptors (both of the Xbox 360 Premiums and Elites), Microsoft finally made official what we've long since known: it's no fluke, and Redmond will be ("gradually") adding HDMI out to the 360 Premium models moving forward. Here's Microsoft's official statement:

"Yes, we are offering an HDMI port for Xbox 360 simply as another choice in Xbox 360 owners' games and entertainment experience. Retailers are gradually introducing HDMI-enabled Xbox 360s into the channel to meet demand."

How do you know if your new $350 Xbox 360 will have HDMI out? Simple enough: according to Microsoft PR, the applicable systems will now sport an HDMI logo, so keep an eye out for that and you'll be all set.

If they have a surplus of chips ordered from a factory, it is quite possible to add in the HDMI, while still using 90nm chips, then when those run out, just dropping in the 65nm chips since it's a drop in change, not a revision.

Not saying it hasn't happened yet, but evidence of one is not proof of the other. I hope it's true, as that's what I'm really waiting for, I can live with just VGA.

Why would they discuss the Falcon chips at all? MS announced they would be in the systems back at E3. HDMI on the other hand, for all systems, is something some of us didn't know about, although I read a thread about it over a week ago so I expected it none the less.

What I want to know is if they are putting these updates into all of the ones that have been sent in for repairs? I just got mine back after only 2 weeks, and so far it seems like it just runs smoother for some reason. They actually said that it was a "replacement unit" on the inclosed invoice that came with it. But the darn thing even smells brand new, lol. I just hope it holds up.

And? Sure in theory the problem should be fixed, but guess what? In theory a modern game console should not have had the original problems in the first place. Also, let's see if the disc scratching problems get fixed. On a related note, I went to buy a used copy of GRAW earlier today, and due to the disc scratching problem, I always inspect a used 360 game before I buy it, and sure enough, the copy of GRAW they were going to give me had the obvious markings of a game that's been in one of the 360's that scratch discs.

You "highly doubt" = fact. Look at this Link.

"As for whether or not the new HDMI-equipped Xbox 360 systems include the anticipated 65nm chips, the representative (MS REPRESENTATIVE) wouldn't say.

"We are constantly updating the console's more than 1,700 internal components and therefore will not comment on details of specific components or manufacturing processes," he said."

If a MS representative won't confirm it, I won't believe it. Simple.

Actually there has already been proof of the extra heat sync in newer systems from months ago. MS announced the 65nm chip (Falcon) at E3. They have been in production for 6 months. There was a huge thread about HDMI and 2 MS price drops, plus the new 65nm chips, DVD player, etc being introduced as soon as August. I'm not doubting any of that. Except you dont know for sure they have used all of the 90nm chips up. YOu think they order these things one at a time? Not they order them in big big lots. There is no evidence, yet, that they have run out of the older chips and there aren't any sitting in the warehouse. The recent change in heatsinks illustrates this, as it's needed more for the older hotter running chips.

Please take engadget's side on this. They thought maybe they were in, but in their update didn't mention it.

Update: We also asked if these new systems would ship with cooler 65nm chips and quieter DVD drives, but all we got back was the usual song and dance about "not commenting on details of specific components or manufacturing processes." In other words, if you want to see if Microsoft switched out their chips, you'll likely have to run to the store, buy another Xbox, and tear it down for yourself, because Xbox isn't engaging consumers otherwise.

only65nm Cpu is not enough,65nm ATI Gpu should be there because it become hot very quickly (72Celcius in 30mins of GRAW2) But Cpu's maximum heat value is 55Celcius which is not so hot for a processor. But GPU's extremely high temp make the xbox360s show 3RLOD.

Ok, according to this thread at avsforum there are some 90nm HDMI premiums floating around.

http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=888017

I don't know if he has inside info, or regurgitated internet info, but if you want to increase your chances:

As most of you have seen Microsoft has announced that HDMI has been included in Premium boards that are just making their way to store shelves. So far Target is the only store I am aware of that users have obtained this new hardware. BB and CC still have old reserves. So far I have seen one Target store in GA and I bought one from a Target in IL.
Look for a July 2007 manufacturer date and preferably a LOT number of 0720-0727 for the epoxy and heatsink fix along with the HDMI port. LOT number 0728 and above will carry the 65nm Falcon board.

I read this somewhree on the Xbox.com forums a week or so ago. A guy was asking if he had one of the brand spanking newer (and purportedly more reliable) models, and was told to check if the serial number said it was manufactured after July.

Falcon is a CHIPSET NOT A CHIP. Falcon will house the 65nm chips and add HDMI to all systems.

I'm not doubting you but July was just 9 days ago.

So then the elite is no longer worth its name... :?

Shame on you Microsoft. Owning your own consoles and consumers by twisting things. They most certainly owned me.

[QUOTE="Zerostatic0"][QUOTE="ginglejangle"]now that 360's wont break down the 360 is offically awesome.Adrian_Cloud

Don't put the cart before the horse. I mean given Microsoft's reputation with the 360, shouldn't you let them prove that their 360's are now reliable rather then just giving them the benefit of the doubt?

It has been a proven fact for a while now that the main problem with the 360 was the lack of an extra heatsync. Many people have even moded their 360s, put in an extra heatsync before they even had problems. The new 65nm chips run a lot cooler than their 90nm brothers, plus MS is keeping in the extra heatsync, plus adding a quieter DVD player, plus adding HDMI.

My 36o's fan is pretty loud, and thats been the only "problem". Is there anything i can do about that?

well if you want to risk opening your 360, you could buy a talismoon fan. There quieter than the original fans and cool the 360 better.

The 360's hardware failure is the only thing I find bad about it, for me that is....

If they fixed that up for good, then the 360 will maybe get more acceptance by people who have not brought a 360 yet...

Are you sure it's the new chips or is it just the upgraded heat sinks?

Dear God. MS can't do anything without you picking it apart can they?

This is the price of being an early adopter. Are PS2 fans owned because the Slim PS2 came out? What about because of the improvements made to the DVD drive? Are all the ones who bought one beforehand owned now too? I guess so using your logic.

I can wait. I'll wait until Early- Mid 2009 for my super quiet more powerful DVD-Drive, 15nm CPU/GPU/ 4 extra heat sinks including the 2, 4 more exhaust fans.
