[QUOTE="Cedmln"]Will he be FF's first playable black character (not including whats her name from FFXII)?DireOwl
There is also Berret from FFVII.
How the heck did he miss someone from the most popular FF?Anyways does anyone know what that pic on the bottom is for the one with Cloud?
Barret(or Rude for that matter) are not Black. To American and European gamer's they look Black. Barret even "sounds" Black(pssh). But if you seen Advent Children, clearly Barret isn't Black. The first Black character in Final Fantasy was from the 8th installment, Kiros. In Japan(and I wish I knew the term) you'll see young dark skin males sporting a fashion style made popular by Black culture(if you watch Bleach, then there you go). This guy looks like the Lando for Final Fantasy XIII! ROFL

My guess would be it's about FFVII Advent Children Complete, the blu-ray version, not sure if that's what it's called.[QUOTE="NeoGen85"]Barret(or Rude for that matter) are notBlack. Notice his skin, his hair texture, and lastly his hair sty1e. What are you talking about?
Rude is the equivlent of Michael Jackson lol
Black is not a race it is a color. If your skin is black, you are black. They might not be African or Jamaican or haitian (and other "black" countries), but they are black alright. But I'm not going to get in a big debate about race.Barret(or Rude for that matter) are not Black. To American and European gamer's they look Black. Barret even "sounds" Black(pssh). Wow, I just looked at that picture and that is a very sterotypical black male as most things in Japanese culture are : Sterotypical.
I'll bet my house that that he is only Black Male in the game.

Synthetic_NinJI
no more stereotypical then Asians depicted in western games.
or even a black person in a game like Fable

Pot calling the kettle black  That is a general census of Asian culture culture, and you have to be more specific? You would think now that America has a black President alot of the stereotypes would end, obviously it needs more timeLink

Is there a FF character that doesn't look goofy?

Forgive me if I turned this into a what's Black...what's Black-African...or whatever debate. I think when a lot of people talk about "Black" we think of African descent. :P
The reason why I said that was because before www.adventchildren.net shut down, there was a discussion in the forums about the samething. And someone stumble upon an old article with a interview from Nomura of him also discussing his character design of Rude and Barret. He drew on his inspiration from Black-American culture aka Mr. T(joke), but he was looking for a more Japanese appoarch which was becoming more apparent in the country amongst young Japanese people. Then he refered to a term(regarding Rude) describing a darker skinned Japanese man.
I didn't think everyone was going bring up the images of Barret and....stuff. lol
updated: About Mr. T and Barret being Okinawan. That made me laugh. That reminds me of this guy my father use to hang out with when he was stationed at the Navy base there. He was a Okinawan that look almost like Barret, but he shaved his head.

what? fable had the whisper girl and her like older brotherI have no idea what all the rage is about with Final Fantasy. That is because FFX is a very corny title and IMO one of the worse FF titles. You should give FF6, Tactics, 9, 12, 7, and 4 a chance
I tried playing FFX and it was just way too corny for me.

I'd like to think they did it on purpose as commentary on stereotypical portrayals of various nationalities and races in games. Either way, it's funny.I SPEEL MY DRINK!
I have no idea what all the rage is about with Final Fantasy.FFX featured the cornest looking main character ever. I know what you mean about 10, but what you need to do is play 8, 6, and 7 (7 is a good game but don't think its great because it is overrated.). They were the core of the FF series and why people hype about the newer games.
