FFXIII was an up and down for me. At one point I really loved paradigms and the dynamics of the battle system. But relying on auto battle too much sort of killed it for me. It was mashing X the whole time, the emphasis on paradigms was just way too heavy.

it looks.......a lot like FFXIII. honestly, i've grown tired of the turn based JRPGs over my 20+ years of gaming. i can't even finish lost odyssey because of how repetitive it is, same with FFXIII.

It's nice that they've made everything into a proper game and all. You know like having RPG elements in my RPGs is a great idea SE! :D

The only thing I'm thinking that will put this game down now is the characters. The two that you get to play as don't look paticularly interesting. Tbh kinda generic.

It looks like its aimed more at my 7 year old daughter than me sadly, I think I may just skip this one like I did FF X 2.

Not really. You don't take turns and only control the party leader and it's way more faster paced than Lost Odyssey. Although, the game does have a repetative side to it.

Wow this game looks like it is going to be amazing (to me at least)

Comon FFXIII haters. You,ve got to say this game is looking much better than FFXIII now.

IcyFlamez96

Open non-linear environments? UHm...maybe our definitions of "linear" differ. To me it means I can go anywhere I want and explore the world as I want. Like Oblivion, or GTA, for example. That is non-linear.

This seems to still use the same LINEAR mapping system since FFX. You can see it in the mini map on the top right corner. You can't go anywhere, you are stuck on a path. Just because that LINEAR path is completely straight like FF13, doesn't mean it isn't still extremely linear. You are on a path and go from point A to B. That seems to be it. That is the very definition of linear.

[QUOTE="yoshi_64"]I've got it reserved (CE) already, but I must admit... why are they walking SOOOO SLOOOOOOW.... in FF XIII they seemed to walk faster a bit here, but... here they're just jogging... in place almost. Bah! If it's one thing I hate in JRPGs or any RPG with open worlds, it's slow walking speeds... Since XIII-2 is having random battles now again, this will annoy me more I think. :/ hakanakumono

What.

Well it's not entirely "random" like old school FFs, but now monsters will appear, and you have the chance to initiate Pre-Emptive attacks too. Basically, when wandering around, monsters will appear, and when they appear, you have a little meter on the bottom of the screen. If you "attack" the enemy to start a battle before the meter gets out of the Green zone, you start with a pre-emptive strike, start it in the yellow and it's normal, and I don't know if there's a red, but from the demo I played at E3 there was no other indicators. I assume you could be attacked back, but I'm not sure. Anyways, there are random battles in that sense, but you still see the enemies, only they basically spawn out of nowhere. Noel said it was something about them spawning from other dimensions or something to do with time and space. I can't remember, but it's essentially give us gamers random battles with some SMRPG like flair (able to initiate attacks to give advantages in battle).

it's not a as corridor linear as the last game but looking at the map it doesn't seem too open from what I can tell, still though I'm not against the size or linearity of it really, I liked the last game, it'll finally be interesting to see how the cutscenes do without the pre-rendered video and instead relying entirely on realtime rendering (which allowed them to fit it on one disc this time), don't think it'll sacrifice the size of the game at all either, probably the last remaining technical feat was reducing the amount of redundant files

Just the monsters. I hated the entire idea of having monsters in my party instead of human characters.

The rest of the game was great, and even better when you could finally toss out the silly monsters in favor of human members.

I hate monster characters. I never use them in Disgaea games. Humanoids FTW!

I said it shows non linear ENVIRONMENTS. Plus, FF has never been a game where you could go anywhere you want. You have been spoiled by playing too much skyrim or fallout or something.... The environments ARE non linear. I said nothing about the game's structure. The problem with FFXIII was that all the maps were pretty much straight lines.

Ah, okay. I prefer FFXIII's system though. Random battles make maze like environments frustrating for me, rather than entertaining.

My biggest fear with this game, despite my hype for it, is the party.

I don't want monsters in my party.

mmmwksil

Monster in party is an epic idea though personally, 2012 cant come any faster, hurry up!

After Dragon Quest V?

No. Just... no.

Are you incinuating Saber was an unworthy party member ? If so, I would like to challenge you to a fisticuff battle good sir. :P

I feel the same as well, the story and the ending in FFXIII wasn't so intresting to look for a sequel to be honest ..... at least FFX ending left massive untied ends to look forward to ..... add to that the unlikable characters !

Ah nice, so they really addressed the issue of hallway level design. Nice! Looks like we can actually explore now.

That's one major issue down. Hopefully they can somehow build a good story on top of the steaming pile of a foundation that FFXIII laid down and maybe even avoid holding our hands for half the game. Then we'll be making progress!

Too bad there are still annoying characters, horrible writing and meh va, but what can you do? You win some, you lose some.

Yes, negative post is negative, but the game is actually looking to be better than what I was expecting if that counts.

I'd rather pretend 13 didn't exist all together. Awful game, the only redeeming factor was the pretty graphics.
