I'm excited for it but a little dissapointed it's only 30% faster than an 8800gtx which i have.

I mean, with all the time Nvidia had on their hands (more than a year since 8800gtx), while looking at ATI releasing crappy cards into the market and struggling, the all-mighty nVidia could've come up with better performance I'm sure.

Oh well, it still looks like a beast and I will still get it.

Not in Crysis. Just a FYI on this card...there is a mistake in the information about it. This is not a 9800GX2. They made a mistake naming it. This is more like a 8950GX2. The 9800GTX will be ALOT faster than this and will hit around the same time.

30% is like shoving a rocket up the GTX's arse. Crysis will be laughed to scorn.

There's no point in Nvidia releasing a card that gives a massive FPS jump while they still hold the high end by a fairly large margin.

Damn that thing has more than double the Stream Processors of the 8800 ULTRAS, I can assume thats a very good thing yes? :P ... I know how to compare but not how much each part of a Gcard is worth in performance terms.

That is true. I am still holding out hope that the 9800GTX will give everyone that magical 60fps we are all wishing we had.

The 9800GTX is rumored to have 256 stream processors in a single chip whereas this card has 2 GPU's each with 128 stream processors. The 9800GTX will eat this card alive.

Who knows, the problem is that there is NO true DX10 game out, simply said they add novelty effects thinking that DX10s efficiency will make up for. In other words, they are perfectly doable in DX9 only not as fast.

The current cards at the moment suck ass at DX10, and Crysis isnt going to magically change unless there is a complete rework. It could happen, remember GeForce FX series and the GeForce 6?

Not to say that they won't be, but don't forget that there were rumors flying around of it coming out in November (which ended up being the 8800GT and GTS).

Very true. I think once this "9800GX2" (8950GX2 in reality) comes out that will be the official end of the 8 series cards and it will be time for the 9 series. Remember that this new card is basically 2 8800GT's slapped together just like the 7950GX2 which was like 2 7950GT's slapped together.

It might have something to do with the fact that it is two 8800's together ;)

So, it's two 8800's in one? According to the link.

With quad sli, it'd be the same as 8x8800 GTX?

Yeah I started playing CS even more because it. I love how it has a built in memory. so you can take this mouse anywhere and plug it in and it will have all your settings still there. Which I can see why it would become handy with your CS source lan tea,.

Well this card is gonna be the fastest for maybe a month tops. It would be a smart move to wait just a little bit on this one cause I honestly believe that the 9800GTX is going to be an INSANE jump over the 8800Ultra. I don't even feel like I'm going out on a limb saying that you can expect at least 100% increase in performance out of the 9800GTX over the 8800Ultra. I actually think that it will be closer to 3 times the speed, but there are alot of people who do not agree.

I dont know whether quad SLI applies on per card on a per gpu basis. In any case, if its 4 actual cards, thats an immense waste of money considering each successive GPU typically loses about 60% performance in most games. The last few GPU's will probably ony gain 10% or 15% of the full power.

I would say that you can probably expect Intel and nVidia to time their releases so that you can equip your new Quad Core Penryns with a brand new 9800GTX. Just watch. I am willing to bet money that in mid to late February we will see a near simultaneous launch of the Penryn with nVidia's D9E Enthusiast cards.

I don't think it will work like that and besides the most anyone would be able to do is 6x SLi and that would be the people with 780i motherboards. We do not know if these cards are Tri-SLi capable yet.

Either way, what i meant was that the 8800 is overpriced DUE TO SHORTAGE, you know when everyone wants something and there isnt enough to go round they put the price up so they make the most of the amount they have. Yeah its called business, feels like im talking to a Kidtendo fankid:lol:

Retailers are charging a premium for them currently because there are not very good supplies of them at the moment. I think that after this new dual card comes out there will only be a few additional mass orders of G92 cores. After that nVidia will slow production on those cores and ramp up the production of the G100 9800GTX GPU cores to meet the new increasing demand to the ultra high end.

Newegg is terrible for that. When the Q6600 came out i was $50 over priced. So I waited like 2 weeks or so. And I got it for like $275 and not for $325. Its not just them though. When an item is hot and there is high demand and little supply. Prices go up until they can meet that demand.

how is the 8800gt overpriced?

WARxSnake

Another fanboy with a knee-jerk reaction comment. Im a PC gamer, and i am SICK of upgrading my PC, PC gaming IS EXPENSIVE

Either way, what i meant was that the 8800 is overpriced DUE TO SHORTAGE, you know when everyone wants something and there isnt enough to go round they put the price up so they make the most of the amount they have. Yeah its called business, feels like im talking to a Kidtendo fankid:lol:

wow calm down? it was just a goddamn question.

kidtendo... lol.. i actually work in the industry so calm down kid.

I take that back, im sorry, i saw your avatar and i mistook you for somebody else, so again im sorry. Either way, once Kidtendo destroys the gaming industry, the last hill we have to run to is PC gaming:cry:

Especially if you overclock with an aftermarket cooler.

Not in Crysis. Just a FYI on this card...there is a mistake in the information about it. This is not a 9800GX2. They made a mistake naming it. This is more like a 8950GX2. The 9800GTX will be ALOT faster than this and will hit around the same time.

Actually, the 9 series appears to be a die shrink of the 8 series, no new architecture. Only slightly faster results. This is what happens when there is a lack of competition

Here are some additional pictures of the card. Last picture is 2 cards in SLi on a 790i motherboard. Thats right 790i not 780i.

I read that, but I have also seen alot of information recently and talk from reputable sites about the 9800GTX and from that information I can easily discern that the performance of the 9800GTX is going to trash this new card.

Also the MSRP of this new card is $450 US. The 9800GTX will cost more and perform ALOT better. Oh and I just found out that the release date for the new GX2 is February 14.

Hmm. nVidia is confusing the hell out of me...it would seem that 9800GX2 is the correct name. :/
