No, better lighting is science it's hard fact no matter what approach you go for. eg Pixar's lighting is still miles ahead of crysis' lighting. Point is UC3's lighting is factually better with HDR and deferred lighting, unless you can prove me why Gears3's lighting is better. They both have baked GI btw. What terrible AF? The difference is hardly significant in most cases. AS for AA I see both games are not the smoothest in comparison to god of war3. But UC3's overall visual clearly stands above Gears3's."Better lighting" is your opinion. Uncharted 3 is going for a more realistic approach. I think you should know by now that Gears 3 is going for a sci fi look. It's not supposed to look "real". You just like one art style over the other.
Also
1.) Don't bring up that Uncharted 3 Beta pic with it's terrible AF.
2.) You're championing those super sampled bullshots of Uncharted 3 when you already know that the "MLAA" used does notoffer that kind of IQ. And has perfect shadows with no aliasing.Hell I posted a high bitrate direct feed of the SP and it still has nasty jaggies. I also find itfunny that you were quick to dismiss the bullshots in the Gears thread but you're accepting Naughty Dog's bullshots so easily. Right off the bat, their new MLAA method blurs the image more.
3.) MLAA>FXAA>Whatever the hell Naughty Dog is currently using.

[QUOTE="gpuking"]You really have no idea what you're talking about do ya Bretter2200? I give up arguing any technical sense with you.CorbraMax
But I do.
Yes but our opinions and judgments based on what's been shown here are clearly different so it's kinda meaningless to cycle the debate any further. I believe we can move on from here yes?"Better lighting" is your opinion. Uncharted 3 is going for a more realistic approach. I think you should know by now that Gears 3 is going for a sci fi look. I wasn't here so why are people taking the time to respond for me.
A.) How do you know Gears takes a more sci-fi approach, from what I've seen that is not the case. There not space marines, there mere humans on Sera.
B.) None of the pictures I listed where bull shots, the ND picture was a mere in-game multi-player cinimatic cutscenes.
C.) Honestly, both are quite jaggy as this point. At least for some of the game play and screens I've seen for Uncharted. Gears recent AA inclusion seems to be benfiting it quite more then Uncharted.

Like Alstrong told u on Beyond 3D. The lighting solution works for what it is.There are no parts where Gears is supposed to lookreal. It's set in a fantasy setting. No parts of the game arebased off of HDR photography. If you want to go that route... Both GT5 and Forza 4 looks more real than Uncharted 3. Also... It doesn't matter if it's using deferred or forward rendering. The end result is that it looks amazing.
And image qualty wise... Hell no. Uncharted 3 actually has more jaggies than Gears 3. Do yourself a favor and download the direct feed footage I posted. You can see the jaggies clear as day. It's not working properly. FXAA is a better solution. God of War 3 IQ it isn't
The pictures you posted were bullshots.
The huge Uncharted 3 picture I posted was a bullshot only by resolution.
The game had horizontal aliasing and sub pixel aliasing all around. The IQ is actually inferior to the 2XMSAA used in Uncharted 2.
Look at the video I posted and take a gander at the plane that Nathan is trying to get on. The jaggies are very apparent.

Anyway, I was never really impressed with Gears of War's environment graphics. A lot of the geometry is noticeably low-poly, many textures are reduced to low-res images, and the aliasing makes objects appear as if they aren't "solid." However, the character models are usually excellent!
Bretter2200
Have you not seen what they've done with old town. Those cobble stone mesh are hand crafted bit by bit.
The fact that the stones are actual mesh is a very nice touch. (or are they really good bump maps?) It doesn't matter, it looks great, especially with the shiny specular highlights where it has water flowing through it... I just wished that this amount of detail was present in all of the objects in the game. Seeing low-poly props and highly-compressed textures, in some areas, really breaks the illusion. You keep saying the textures are better in Gears3 but it's really not true when UC3 beta's textures are at least as good, plus it has better lighting to boot. The new desert pics are making the gap even bigger. gpuking
Yeah the lighting in Uncharted 3 is far better than in Gears animation is another deparment were Uncharted also beat Gears,Drake has some floid animations compare to Gears stiff characters.

Really? I can't believe people think the lighting in Uncharted is better then Gears. When I played the betas. Neither was superior, I didn't notice a difference. It's just Gears offers more features lighting wise. So I'll give it to Gears.
And motion capture in Uncharted isn't always the ideal thing, I don't see a normal human being slightly gaining speed only to stop and nearly fall over every single time. And well they are impressive, they're not very fluid in mixing with the other normal animations and are slightly buggy. And Gears are stiff? They run like normal humans.
No HUD. But I can see the jaggies. Anyway, its not breaking any grounds there. Not saying it looks bad, it actually looks good but its just on par with current console standards.mirgamer
This is leaked though, so. Expect such, especially before the AA update.
Needs more color.lbjkurono23
http://n4g.com/news/798819/gears-of-war-3-azura-map-gameplay--- Gears has color now? Lolwut.

The lightning in gears 1 and 2 was horrible, you'd stand under a blue light and as soon as you moved out you were still covered in blue. Dunno if that was corrected in gears 3 I forgot to check that out in the beta and my 48 hour trial expired.[QUOTE="Bretter2200"][QUOTE="a55a55inx"]

It's a visually inferior map compared to old town, check out and even trenches. Which is really impressive when the sand storm roles in.

Tons of updates to Unreal engine have been made in preperation for this single final build of Gears 3.

If there going to attempt to appeal visually don't start off in thrashball stadium and as Marcus. That's about as dull as you can get. Start in checkout as Baird.
Well I'm convinced the game will be great and the graphics will be fantastic. But these screenshots are just boring. Like....reeeeeally boring. Where's the HUD?

Hud can be turned off and or goes away if still for a decent amount of time. And these are from the leaked.

Azura looks good too.Oh man, I forgot about Azura. Kind of hard to play it on the leaked because it's glitchy though. There's some new maps added though after the leaked build. Tons, I jted the beta to get a more updated version.
