Damage control.

I assure you the only confusion here is confusing good production values for bad. I don't care what you say, there are NO backgrounds in this game. What is there is known as a lightdome in the business. It's a sphere with a large map thrown on it and 100% self illumination. The only details in this game are the characters.
You don't need to take my word for it now, but you'll be hearing more and more about this... especially when this game underscores.
Interesting that when you quoted him you left out this pic:[QUOTE="-Pale"][QUOTE="CarlosPontinas"]Come on people. Don't let some crafty editing fool you.

Okay...the backgrounds are blurred to portray the mist of the mountains and the midday heat haze...
And here are some backgrounds not set in high mountains with very clear backgrounds:[QUOTE="CarlosPontinas"][QUOTE="-Pale"][QUOTE="CarlosPontinas"]Come on people. Don't let some crafty editing fool you.

I'm gonna side with Carlos here. If you look closely you see what he speaks of. That being said, the game is still nice on the eyes, and if it plays well, it will be one of the reasons for me to pick up a ps3.TheCrazed420I acknowledge that there is heavy use of depth of field and heat haze effects in the mountaintop scene. I do not acknowledge what he ORIGINALLY stated, which was the exact quote: "there is no environment in this game."

I think he just expressed his dislike of the environmental detail by saying there was none. There's clearly environments, half-decent ones at that(the one screenie reminded me of SotC), but I'm not a fan of the depth of field or the blocky mountainsides. But I'm no graphic whore, if that game plays great, those graphics are more than enough to keep me happy.

Quoted for those who missed his original statement. Note that there is no mention of the environment's quality, only that it does not exist due to blur. It's a shame because the girl looks quite nice. Perhaps it's just me but doesn't anyone else notice there is no environment in this game? The background is blurred. You know what it looks like? An early version of Tomb Raider with a slightly more detailed character.
I don't know. If this is the best the PS3 can come up with I'm really beginning to believe that console is doomed.

Dude why do you even bother with the little rodent? All he does is bash anything PS3 so there's nothing to talk about with him. He's just nitpicking. Apart from Motorstorm, I'm not sure how many games don't have "flat" ground anyways. They look good if you don't look at the ground from that angle anyways.Rodent?

Where are your manners? Is this how you greet someone you don't know? I don't think I've ever spoken to you before.
FYI my comments are pertinent to this discussion and they're accurate. If you don't like them, don't read them.
I'm telling the discerning reader that most software houses emphasize the development of engaing environments and that although there's some nice character work here, it is let down by the lazy backgrounds.
So I'm a "rodent" for saying this now?
Only one other person here knows the difference between environment and background.

you shouldnt argue with this guy, he is one of the 360 fanboys who is content on thinking nothing can be great looking on the ps3..or nothing can be better looking then a 360 game until the 360 beats the game first. (example, nothing will be gears until something like mass effect beats it...)

I agree that I shouldn't have bothered with him, but I just get sucked into these silly little arguments. Not very limited...but abit like god of war, apparently. You will have control..but in most cinematics you will be tol what to press to actually achieve the goal (reaching that area etc etc)...this definetly adds to the gameplay and imo, for the better.I'm torn on "context-sensitive" sequences, in general. It allows for interesting cinematic moments but it takes you "out" of the game at the same time. It's kind of a cop-out...a cheap way to make a moment memorable. At the same time, though, it makes for some memorable moments, and that's generally a good thing. I'd rather have good AI and clever design within the typical gameplay framework (a la Zelda...Ninja Gaiden) than gimmicky controls, but I can't complain about the gorgeous art.
