New Leak/Rumor: Xbox 720 beta kit contains two APUs

The current Xbox 720 beta kit contains two APUs, according to a new leak.

 

TGFC member called BD, who is supposed to be an ex-Ubisoft employee, and who also leaked the Xbox 720 specs earlier which contained an Eight-core CPU and 8 GB RAM, has postedthat the latest beta kit for the Xbox 720 has two APUs or dual APUs.

Now this is quite an incredible engineering feat if it is true. This was posted on April 1, however, BD has also posted that the Xbox 720 controllers were covered in irregular black tape stripes, almost camouflage like.

Kotaku had posted their rumour on April 2 and mentioned the same thing about the controller having stripes. So it seems BDs post was legitimate.

Last Friday project received the first batch of Durango, Beta Kit, Host oversized white box, new handle, he wrote (translated from Chinese). And host and handle are plastered with the irregular black tape stripes, and the new car before the release of camouflage-like. The most important thing is, Beta Kit actually there are two APU.

Microsoft should be officially revealing their next Xbox sometime later this year. It was originally supposed to be revealed in April, but was delayed by a month.

It is interesting to note that the PS4 has only one APU, so if the final Xbox 720 architecture contains two APUs, it just changes the whole dynamics of next gen competition.

I was speculating about the possibility of 2 GPUs/APUs in another thread just a little while ago. Hopefully it's not just an April fool's joke.

It could just be a gag or even an inaccurate rumor but IF 2 of those 1.2 tflop GPUs does end up in Nextbox then that changes everything. Durango would instantly go from quite a bit weaker than PS4 to quite a bit more powerful than it is.

This is the ONLY "rumor" I have ever heard about this, so im taking it with a microscopic grain of salt. Plus the web site doesnt seem legit! Checked google news to see if anyone else picked up on it and found nothing. So chances seem pretty tiny that the article is legit.

I just want some concrete info on this thing..........hell just have some hot chick licking the case of the Durango, and release that as a teaser........JUST GIVE ME SOMETHING PLEASE :cry:

Chinese April fools joke confirmed. The Neogaff TC was quickly shot down by fellow Neogaff users. Makes no sense to have two APU's when you can just have one strong APU, not worth the heat and not cost effective at all. M$ is smart enough to avoid eat at all cost next genlezgoyolo

OK, I'm no expert on this at all but wouldn't it be easier to manufacture a chip with 12 compute units in it twice than it would one with 24? Wouldn't the yields be better? That's just guessing on my part. Really I don't know but on the surface it seems to make sense to me.

It'd be an interesting turn of events if the 720 ended up slightly more powerful than the PS4... the SW would explode! :twisted:

But still, it's just another rumor, so can't say I care until the official confirmation...

Well, that may very well turn out to be true but for the life of me I can't fathom why a company with tons of money (MS) would allow itself to get outdone on a piece of hardware by a company that is broke (Sony). Maybe that is exactly what is going to happen but it's straight-up strange if it does.

Gears and Halo are good games. Why wouldn't they keep making them? They've got a long, long way to go before they start approaching Mario or Zelda-like exploitation. Should they make more exclusive IPs? Sure. But them not making a lot of them doesn't make Gears and Halo bad.

I think it needs at least 4 APUs to beat the mighty GDDR5 though...

I really hope we do not have to wait till E3 to get official numbers. If this is true though then the Nextbox sounds like it is shaping up to be a very good console. I think when the Next box is revealed there will be lots of damage control going on.CanYouDiglt

Whoever has a hardware advantage would change nothing next gen. System Warriors are already in their tribes. Rhetoric would still be the same, it'll all come back to - Xbox/PlayStation has no games. Rumors only serve two purposes how I see it: (1) to phish an official response from companies and try narrowing down specifics (2) to give no-name news websites hits to generate advertisement revenues. Christ, it's still a little over two months until E3, I don't want to have to put up with escalating rumors that long. That isn't necassarily true. My last 2 consoles have been Xbox and Xbox 360. I haven't owned a Sony console since the original Playstation. And having 2 or even 3 systems at once has always seemed silly to me. I want to go with Xbox again but if the rumors are true there is a very, very strong chance I'll switch. I won't like doing it but feel that a 50% processing difference isn't really giving me much of a choice in the matter. So yeah, I have a brand preference but do not blindly follow anyone. I very much doubt I'm the only one. But anyway, still holding out hope that the specs will change.

Sounds a little like a modern Sega Saturn with it's two CPUs and two video display processors.

Two mid-range APUs (trinity based?) working in tandem would not be that shabby.

The original poster BD himself confirmed that it's fake and called the Gaffer Reiko who posted the rumor afterwards someone with negative iq lmfao.
