New PS3 custom firmware bricking 60 GB consoles

The PS3 jailbreak fallout just keeps on coming, with the latest incident serving to demonstrate how careful gamers must be when they try to mess with their systems. A new custom firmware has been released, and it's bricking 60 GB consoles left and right. Oh dear.

Custom firmware v3.55 has killed quite a few launch PS3s as people rushed to "back up" (lol) their games without waiting to see if the thing actually works. Even when it was discovered that the firmware is utterly broken, people were still bricking their consoles because they weren't reading whole forum threads.

But will they learn? I bet no

I'm sorry I find that pretty hilarious, I should call up my friend and warn him.

No sympathy. If they wanted a Cell-based system they could hack, IBM would have happily sold them one.

There's absolutely no reason to use a custom firmware if you're not a homebrew developer at this stage (okay, maybe for OtherOS but it's not worth the risk). Running backups is limited, unreliable and time consuming. No worthwhile homebrew apps have been released apart from emulators which you can already use on your PC with the PS3 controller. These guys are bricking their systems for nothing.

Whew, for a second there I thought another PS3 firmware were bricking PS3s again.

As a 60 gig owner for a second i was about to crap myself, until I realized this is for hacked consoles only...right?

Well...thats a real kick in the nuts, but thats the risk you take. I personally dont care and hope every pirater of games get caught in this. brick thier consoles and wipe out all thier trophies and game saves...

You know I find this whole situation rather ironic because now the Playstation 3 actually "only does everything" if its jailbroken. :lol: On-Topic though, those people got what was coming to them.
