So PSM3 has released some new unofficial renders of what the PSP2 could look like, based on the original leaked pictures we saw of the PSP2.

Original leaked PSP2 pics: (click to view larger)

New PSP2 renders: (click to view high res)

PSM3 magazine scans: (click to view high res)

The trackpad may seem a little weird but i actually think it could work, and the dual thumb stick placment looks good.

Rumors tell us that the PSP2 could be released in mid 2011 to compete with the 3DS, which seems logical. But with all the rumors of the huge power the PSP2 supposedly has, we can only wonder how much the PSP2 will cost.

I can't really judge the placement of the analogs because I've never used any controller that's like that, so cannot say if I like it or not. I thought the PSPgo looked horrible until I played it.

Them being on top of the buttons is kind of bizzare, but I agree some things felt more natural than initial looks. I liked the look of the PSPGo, so I'm fine with the looks. I'm just used to moving analog then my thumb going up for face buttons, but we'll see..

If the PSP2 is digital only Sony is for a major failure but it's good that they finally listened about the 2nd analog stick though.

I would not mind, the problem with the PSPGo as far as I'm concerned is that it did not get all games, and did not let you play existing games. I am perfectly fine with it being purely digital. A large population of PSP users did indeed pirate, so I think they should be familliar enough with getting digital downloads, maybe they might even be okay with buying games this way. I'm cool with keeping my old PSP for PSP games, it doesn't take up much room, I'd prefer they jump in full force into just pure dd, no more stupid UMD type formats.

Im glad to see they didn't just go with "Smaller is better" and completely trim away anything that i can rest my non-essential fingers on... I see a few odd shapes but as long as it plays well i'll be happy.

I think it would be cool if Sony made some sort of a marketplace, like ebay, where you could sell your digitally bought games and Sony take a small fee. But i doubt that would ever happen because then no one would buy from Sony for full price.

Yeah, I think that to which means I'll be sticking to the 3DS. Sad because I really liked the PSP but DD is not something I am fully jumping in on until it's the only option throughout gaming.

I thought about a plan where you'd buy a game but then if you don't want it can give up your license to play the game in order to get half of what you paid credited back on your account for any particular game. That way the money is still going to other games but you get the opportunity to try something else at less of a cost.

Seems like a good plan, Sony should really think of ideas like these if they want to push digital distribution.

for a portable device i think DD games are perfect. you can't loose or damage a DD game and best of all for me you can have multiple games installed on the device and not have to have a pocket full of game every where you go.

Better than those UMD discs that would destroy battery life.

Actually that's really smart! You could buy say, Uncharted PSP, play it, realize your done with it, and sell it at the price that best buy or gamestop would take it for. The money gets added to your wallet so you have to spend it on more games anyway. PLUS, they could track the hours you play so if you really don't like the game you could loose almost no money. It would sure make me try a ton more games if I could try them for an hour and not loose a minimum of $20.

The divots where the actually buttons are might be a problem, but I guess I wouldn't know until I tried it. Looks pretty darn cool though.

yeah. the PSP and DS both really require a bag to be carried in. by the time i have my wallet, keys and phone in my pockets there's no room for a PSP and selection of games. which is the main reason i use my iphone for mobile gaming now.

How does that not make it the next step? I lost more than one PSP UMD traveling. I would much rather have all this stuff just on a memory card. Plus DD is much more profitable for the developers that make the games AND THAT is going to drive down the price of games. This gen, if a game costs $20 million to make to make and 2 million are bought, a huge amount of that goes to retailers. To pull a number out of my ass, a game that costs $30 million and sells 2 million could be JUST as profitable. So rather seeing prices rise to $50 for PSP games (like PS2-PS3) they'll be able to stay the same. Awesome!

not necessarily if the price is a lil bit higher than apples ipod then digital could easily take off. i wasnt really a fan of digital until i started gaming on my ipod and having all your games with you along with no scratched disk and fast loading times is epic

For a portable they're fine, but for consoles I know I prefer my gaming collection along with the boxes.

The one area companies would lose out on if they went full DD is probably the special editions. People like different box art, along with physical rewards for buying the special edition of the game. I wonder how many people would pay extra for a DD special edition that just had more content. It would seem like a bit of a racket if you ask me.

laus_basic

A very clunky, unintuitive analogue stick that prevents you from using the face-buttons as easily. The use of the stylus was novel in Prime Hunters... but a second analogue stick would have made it a much better shooter.

Why couldn't Nintendo just bite the bullet and add both? More options means more variety for gamers and developers. I also question their choice not to include a TV-out jack for those of us who don't enjoy cramping our necks looking at a tiny screen for 5 hours at a time.

The design stays pretty close to the PSP Go, which is not a bad thing. As people have already stated, the biggest change needed right now is to switch the analog stick positions with those of the D-pad and the face buttons.

R2 and L2 buttons would not hurt either, but I am not entirely sure where they could place those without making the handheld too bulky. Can someone tell me what the rear trackpad is used for? Perhaps that could somehow replace the function of the R2 and L2 buttons?

[QUOTE="Mr_Cumberdale"]I like the idea of 2 analog sticks. laus_basic

That is the one place where the 3DS falls flat on its face.

except that it has it's touch screen which can act as a 2nd analog.

From my experience, the touch screen isn't the best substitute for the second analog either. Have you played Metroid Prime Hunters? I found it really hard to use the stylus to control where Samus was looking and I imagine it would be the same situation on the 3DS for other first person titles as well as other games with an adjustable camera.

No one really knows, but Kaz Hirai recently said that it could be used in games. And i would assume it could also be used for web browser scrolling & zooming ect.
