Oblivion was capable of decent graphics. The difference here is that Bethesda majorly overhauled it and had more time for game dev than engine dev. Plus they aren't SpeedTreeing the whole thing and copy/pasting areas and dungeons. FFS they got beat visually by a mod of their own game (Nehrim.)
He was just saying the textures look awful, not the whole game. Thats what happens when you show the console version running low-resolution textures though.
"Will the PC version support DirectX 11?
Todd Howard: Yes, but I guess the real question here is do we take advantage of DX11's big new features and the answer is 'not specifically'. Our graphics work centers around doing things that will look the same regardless of platform, and sometimes that implementation will be different on the 360, PS3, and PC."DreamCryotank
aka Consoles holding back PC... AGAIN
Lets try to make the graphics the same on all the platforms... DERP
day one modding tools will fix the graphics (and gameplay and bugs)
hopefully DX11 support increases performance like some other DX11 games

Nah my HD5850 can play that map at around 20 - 30fps at those settings. :P
agpickle
What map is it?
I think it's simply called "Jungle". Can't remember though, was a couple of months ago.
As if elder scrolls has alwasy been about "teh graphix!!"
You guys amaze me.

I remember back in 2006 people where in a frenzy over TESIVs visuals (well, at least 360 owners). It's not a bad thing to complain about a games visuals, especially true for PC gamers who have to deal with console restrictions.
The last 2 were. Morrowind was quite the looker during its days (everyone was paricularly crazy about its water), so was Oblivion. I'm not worried though, the modders will fix this game up as usual. As if elder scrolls has alwasy been about "teh graphix!!"

That means PC will support DX11 but not really use it

The most important thing Todd said was that they're not even slightly worried about hitting their release dat on time, IMO...

Why do you care whether or not the pc version uses dx11 features?

- Alongside the Fast-travel system from Oblivion will be a Carriage-system that takes you to other cities for a certain fee. This includes cities you haven't visited yet.
DreamCryotank
That's great, but what's the point if you can still do free fast travel?
They don't seem to understand what the value of paid fast travel was in the first place.

The TC is just reporting game news and were you never told thats its rude to answer a question with a question?
I just hope the overworld wont be all forests and towns like we (or I) have seen so far. I am really concerned about the state of this game.
- There will be areas that are too hard for low-level characters.
Sounds very good, but since they already said level scaling is in, I will believe it when I see it. I remember on Fallout 3 at level 2 I could easily go anywhere on the map without too many problems.
I can't wait to play this on my pc. I'm going to finish Morrowind and Oblivion again to get ready. :)

I'd love to see you go to Death Claw territory at level 2. :P

I'm guessing it's just to give the people who don't want to use the fast travel a method like in morrowind to travel other than walking everywhere.[QUOTE="Infinite_Access"]The last 2 were. I have to agree with this. Despite the atrocious character animations, Morrowind was an amazing looking game for its time. Also, Oblivion was the best looking game out when it was released imo.

Why take it out? You don't have to use it, and sometimes I want to just insta-teleport somewhere rather than having to go to the local travel lodge and paying. The latter only draws out the process - in the end they are essentially the same thing, with the minor difference being you probably get hit with an inconsequential 10 gold fee or something.
I respect the latter when I'm in the mood for serious roleplay, but still enjoy the latter when I'm tired and just wanna own mobs as fast a possible.

Other then some ummmm, annoyance's and a few bigger problems, I really loved Oblivion up until about 75% through the game though still completed it and have been holding off getting too excited but that's it, I can'ts lol hardly stand it anymore and just gotta say WOW, my hype can not be contained anymore - some truly promising to be phenom RPG's scheduled to launch this year and this one is ranking near the top. :D
Here's hoping it doesn't disappoint. :P
I agree, you can thank the lagging hardware in the PS3 and 360.looks...not as expected.

Look at that ugly hand in 2nd pic WTF????? If Skyrim fails in graphics it'll be a huuuuge disappoitment for me because i'm tired of playing ugly games from Bethesda and was hoping for this to look very good.silversix_
it still looks 100x better than oblivion. how you can't see the obvious improvements they've made since then is beyone me...

I find the ugliness of the hand/arm to be unacceptable in the second shot, considering it's a part you'll see constantly throughout gameplay (assuming you play in first person).Look at that ugly hand in 2nd pic WTF????? Still a huge step up from Oblivion and Fallout 3, I'd love to see you make a game of this scale with amazing textures...

Well that's lovely isn't it?
Can somebody please tell me what the point of developers doing this is? This didn't happen last gen, even between console versions of games.
