Is this really worth $59?
This topic is locked from further discussion.
It is a full fledged game, loaded with content. It is worth 60$ more so than a lot of games this gen.
I don't feel like the console is way over priced. I just like a 2D game like this is, regardless if its Mario. Same goes for Rayman.caseypayne69
I do feel there are some people that think they should pay less for a game if its 2D. I don't care how many dimensions a game has really, as long as its quality. Nobody can tell me a game like legendary is worth more money than NSMB or Rayman just because its 3D.
I saw that Rayman Origins went down in price quickly eventhough it was a superb game.
Are any of the Mario games worth 60 bucks?
Probably for Ninty. They put a bit of effort into each one and it got that appeal with it. They did a good job on its pricing considering how much it sells every time. This time around it seems the 60 bucks is working well too.
For us? Probably. Why do you think it sold that well to start with? Many of those ppl must not care about its price right?
Subjectively? Eh its your opinion man. Don't make it harder than it needs to be.
Of course it is, should be a $15 download title at most. Nintendo it only does ripping of its fanbase.
I remember this topic coming up alot last year about Rayman Origins. Why does no one call out 3D games on pricing? Retail games shouldn't be $60 anyway regardless if they are 2D or 3D.
It is, but nintendo know they can get away with it.

I know right? Whatever, Mark of the Ninja... sooo good!
If the price holds for years -- no.
If the game receives a permanent pricecut -- yes.
Price is based on supply/demand. Nothing else. No, not even perceived budget.

Eh dev costs, marketing costs, publisher help, etc. leads to making their sales lower and their price levelled but higher for profits.
They need to make money. If its too low price then they must rely on larger quantities of sales. This can work with some products, but unfortunately for games, which are fairly low on the totem pole for sales compared to napkins, toilet paper, etc. especially on an inflation period they need a new model.

Slightly. Only slighty. Many teenagers tend to over-do the "I want to show off how cool and badass and grown up I am" thing. Hating on Mario games is part of the package; then they go play games with zero depth and "mature" graphics and feel they are the ****.
Back on topic: the game is brilliant. For people who like platformers and are beyond the need to prove their manhood by playing ONLY ultra-mature games, this game is certainly worth its price.

that was my next thought. lol.
It probably didn't cost Nintendo much to make the game. So in that regard, it might be overpriced, but based off of amount of content and quality, it's definitely worth it. It's one of the best Mario games out there and it's in no small part due to the great overworld and the new and extremely challenging challenge mode.
I mean the challenge mode isn't just hard, it's absolutely brutal. If you want a gold ranking in all of the challenges you'll need to become the most expert Mario player on the planet. They require an unreal level of perfection from you.
Both Rayman Origins and NSMBU are among the best platformers I have played in perhaps the last decade so I'm ok with the price point.
A lot of the people saying No don't own the game nor Wii U's... As a gamer that's on Soda Jungle 97% Star Coins in (still need Swaying Ghost House) gameplay wise, level design, graphics, overall package, It's easily the best 2D Mario game ever.
You're being silly. $10 is a comical point of view. You have your right to it, but I (and many others) will find it a comical statement nonetheless. The 10 hour story mode (which doubles playtime by collecting all coins) alone justifies the price and the challenge mode is especially great. Sure, the music is old and dated. The character models aren't imaginative but the backgrounds look glorious in HD. And what is most important to be new is the level designs and a lot of them are new and challenging. This is of course just IMO. I also find it odd that you say it's a "bit" overpriced but then say it should be $10. That's a $50 price difference between what you paid and what you say it should be, yet you call $50 "a bit"?I bought NSPBU, it was a bit overpriced. It doens't feel original anymore. Not much new gameplay also. Should have been 10 bucks less.

Best 2D Mario game either goes between Super Mario World and New Super Mario U... Let's break it down.
Graphics, Gameplay, Level design, Overall package.
New Super Mario Bros U pretty much takes it.
A lot of the people saying No don't own the game nor Wii U's... As a gamer that's on Soda Jungle 97% Star Coins in (still need Swaying Ghost House) gameplay wise, level design, graphics, overall package, It's easily the best 2D Mario game ever.

Or they likely played games that better or match the quality of this series but at a quarter of the price. Outland, shadow complex and Mark of the ninja for example.

Who says those games aren't worth $60? I'd probably have paid $40ish for Shadow Complex, haven't played the others. Just because some games are priced that way doesn't mean others can't be higher. Just wait for a price drop on NSMBU if you want or get it on sale. No one is forcing you to buy it at $60 and the fact is that it won't always be that price. What's so wrong with people who have enough money wanting to reward good developers with money? So the idea of it being over-priced at $59 is a timed argument as it will get a price drop eventually or go on sale. I'd also like to point out that this idea that 2D games can't be $60 is the exact reason why those games (Outland, etc) are sold digitally at a lower price. Because gamers have given a negative stigma to it then publishers don't take risks on them, thus they can't get much marketing, can't increase their budget, etc. If we paid $60 for these games on a regular basis we'd see more great $50+ 2D games at stores.[QUOTE="Samus3D"]

Lol there aren't any better 2D Mario games in the series though. SMW was my first game ever and favorite 2D Mario, NSMBU takes it.Content wise NSMBU is packed. The level design is also better than any 2D Mario before it. You're going to die a lot, especially on Rock Candy Mines. It's so old school and challenging, really it's the spirtual successor to Super Mario World which is worth $60 in my book. If you don't have the game you don't have a say, you're irrelevant.
People who say it's copy and paste really have no clue what they're talking about. The game is so epic and old school might as well label it Super Mario World 3. I wouldn't call it my favorite Mario of all time because Galaxy has that spot but for sure favorite 2D Mario.
All games selling for that price are over-priced, tbh.
It's just that when we were kids, the games were so cool that we were willing to shell out 80 bucks for a game but now we are old and cynical and games seem too expensive...
That's also why Steam is so successful.
Who doesn't want to pay less for games?
But no, not really. I'll get more play out of these games than I will with most of the big budget "AAA" experiences out there.
I'm not sure if I understand your OP correctly though. You show screenshots and then ask "is this worth it?"... Do you judge the worth of your games by technical graphics? Or do you think sidescrollers should be cheaper by default because the gameplay is locked to a 2d plane?
Explain a bit more if you can.

This has nothing to do about playing mature games only ego. It's about "is this game an easy cheap copy paste 2D game that is being over charges?" I love Mario and will buy this, but won't pay $59. More like $40 tops. Please Log In to post.
