i dont know if this has been brought up at all but i was thinking give or take a few years the next new game consoles PS4 or whatever they will be able to produce games of a crysis standard or higher. so it begs the question of:

spending your money on the upgrades that does cost alot (more than a console anyway) is it really worth it to be ahead for a few years?

if you look at the standard of PC games graphics just casting asside crysis for the moment, the graphicaly difference isnt that much. so is it just more of a Keyboard & Mouse Vs Controller?

I myself are spending money on PC to have the best stuff so i can see why just i dont believe that PC 'having the best graphics' is valid arguement anymore.

Yes its worth it!

Ports still look far better on PC becouse of AA and AF aswell as running at 1920x1200p or higher with better to twice the framerate of the consoles. To run multiplatform games smooth and not with instable framerate like on the consoles.

The cost is not actually that much, a good uppgrade lasts you a console lifetime and produces better graphic and gameplay functions than any console.

Console games cost more so if you buy ~40 games in 4 years you would have saved around 600-800$ on PC platform which grants you a nice uppgrade.

i suppose :)

just maybe since i like both console and PC gaming im not so bothered about the AA AF. for example i was playing brute force on the xbox Haha and i was having a blast it just seems you need to be a bit of a graphics whore to really appreciate all the money you throw into your PC.

when i get my 4870 my mind will change haha

Most everyone has a desktop pc. With the exception of the crappy x2000 and 8000 midrange cards last gen, $200 has bought you a card that can run most games well. This gen we have a card for $200 that is faster than the 8800gtx of last gen (the awesome 4850.) Add in $30 for an upgraded power supply and you can run ANY pc game. The only reason not to be a pc gamer this is if you just aren't interested in the games, only use a laptop, or if you don't want to go to the trouble cause its too complex for them.

All 3 are valid reasons. With Amd's new cards, price really isn't anymore.

Well, to me it's not that much about graphics, it's more about the whole open platform vs closed one. That's why I don't spend more money on PC gaming than I would on consoles, I get a little bit better graphics than consoles with a small extra investment in a tool that I need anyway.

About those graphics whores, when it comes to hobbies people don't often think about money that much, they want the best and PC offers that, but it's not the only way to play on PC. PC is whatever you want it to be.

I payed as much for my comp upgrade as a PS3 here.

And I have a 360 and PS3, with a 32" hd tv to play them on.

They just dont scratch PC gaming imo. Its in a whole different league.

Crysis isn't the only graphical powerhouse we've got, you know.

Company of Heroes and World in Conflict both look killer on max settings (especially for RTSs). S.T.A.L.K.E.R. looks great with everything turned up, though horribly unpolished.

And soon, we're getting Crysis Warhead S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Clear Sky (trust me, it's visuals are godly), Warhammer 40, 000: Dawn of War II and Empire: Total War.

i know =] but i actually prefer UT3 in all honesty more my type of game and well if they brought out a quake5 id be in geek heaven haha

just i cant see the massive difference between consoles and PC games. maybe when i get my new stuffs and sit it next to a 360 or something then id be able to see it. just again crysis looks good just not :O unless its on ultra the whole "very high" setting just isnt all that amazing.

But, PC vs console isnt just about graphics. You also get lot more exclusives(AAA and AAs).

Yes Crysis looks a world better compared with X console game.

Games like World in Conflict even Company of Heroes from 2005, STALKER or Medieval Total War 2 enforce that.

Simply comparing GeOW on PC to the 360 enforces that further.

And guess who is to blame for that? Why despite 'mainstream' cards packing usable 512mb Vram games continue to be built like there is only 256mb?

It takes a native PC game to show how things have moved along.

I prefer PC games to console games, i enjoy RTS, RPGs and FPS that arnt dumbed down so a gaming PC is the obvious choice. I also have uses for powerful hardware other than gaming so i think the price i payed for my PC is well justified.

Graphics arent the only thing PC has that is much better.

It has MUCH MUCH more exclusive awesome games.

Its been around since, well before i was born so theyres always more games to play

All controllers + K/M

Mods

Better gameplay

Better online

Better controlls

More mature community (exc wow)

And thats just startings.

PC wins man, its always won (fact) and is much better from a factual point of view.

I would recomend consoles for alot of kids from the ages from 6-17 because of the fact its more simple to turn on and off, better to play with RL friends (at that age) but if you can handle the constent problems the PC will give you and dont mind playing aorund with hardware the PC is sooo much better, omg SOOOO much better. On XBL when im playing i always hear 12 year olds spaz which is anoying but on ventrillo on PC im normally talking to much more mature, fun ppl.

Everything else i stated should be pretty obvious, its got the most exclusive games and if you consider all time, its got too many phenominal games to count, better FPSs, better Mulitplats, MMOs, RPGs, RTSs, Etc.

But im not sure if ur only talking about graphics, if so change the title of this thread. Graphics are much better on PC, im not going to wait 6 years to get par experiance because then, theyre will be mindblowing graphics.

LOL? when ps3 came out it was like 600$

I could upgrade gpu (200$ never give anything more than that you dont need it) and that alone would beat crap out of ps3.

I still have 400$ left,enough for motherboard + cpu. motherboard + cpu are like 250 $ and i still have 150 left.

For that i can buy some uber gaming mouse or save money for one of consoles.

I dont really understand all this console vs pc stuff? A game is a game is a game I always thought? But as far as my choice, I choose consoles for ease of use, more family oriented and just plain better. Gamepad is way more confortable and just easier to use.

I for one dont see but about 3% increase in graphics from console to pc. And I have seen the almighty Crysis on a very high end pc. Its just not a huge leap to me. No more then PS2 to Xbox...Its just not enough to warrant the extra cost and troubles.

And before you pcgearheads come in screaming "it doesnt cost more and its no more trouble"...Yes it does and yes it is..I build pc's and have played games on them for a long time in the past. A buddy of mine quit pc gaming for these very reasons as well. He now plays PS3 and loves it just as much.

It's worth it. Besides I don't game on PC just for graphical features. That's actually the least thing I'd want. There are:

Mods

Customization

Superior online

Very mature online community in several games (TF2 and CoH being some)

Then there's also the massive PC library that's riddled with classics from the past decade to the current gen. Considering IMO that this gen of consoles is by far the weakest, I have a PC to use as a remedy.

I for one dont see but about 3% increase in graphics from console to pc.

FunkyHeadHunter

Ultra scientific.

I for one cannot tell the difference between PC and console games either, despite the vastly higher resolutions, vastly higher framerates and features like AA.

Of course, I'm legally blind.

And about the more exclusives.

And about the more exclusives.

3 consoles

1 pc

SilentNight_
Yeah, the PC has more highly rated exclusive titles than all three consoles combined.

Console is better.

Controller is far more comfortable.

Better games (all the classics are on console)

FAR BETTER MULTIPLAYER

Console > PC

(FACT)

SilentNight_

Kudos for trying to pass an extremely subjective post as objective.

Hmm look at phenom's post

Many of the things he said were factually true. For example the PC does have superior graphics, greater mod support and the option of either a controller or a KB/M.

Its kind of pathetic you have to bundle 3 systems together to match the PC.

I dont really understand all this console vs pc stuff? A game is a game is a game I always thought? But as far as my choice, I choose consoles for ease of use, more family oriented and just plain better. Gamepad is way more confortable and just easier to use. FunkyHeadHunter

except the fact that it limits your options by a lot with having far fewer buttuns. Which is bad in FPS games and even worser in RTS games

And before you pcgearheads come in screaming "it doesnt cost more and its no more trouble"...Yes it does FunkyHeadHunter

here is a guy that build a PC that can run crysis on high and every other game maxed and on high resolution and constant 30-60 fps for 399$

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=237787 and it was his first time building a PC

how much does the PS3 cost again?

and yes it is..FunkyHeadHunter

klicking "next" is hard I know , god forbid you have to occasionaly select a difrent partition then C to instal the game, at that point everyone needs to be a computer expert and having a p.h.d. in computer science to perform that extreamly complicated procedure.

lets ignore the fact that most games got a "quick instal" where you just have to klick one freking button, I really don't know how they can make it any easyer

Well, if you bring in the PC's endless library to when they started making PC games, no they don't. Plus, a lot of those console games are going to cancel each other out due to them being the same games on different platforms.

The PC had more highly rated exclusives than even the PS2 in the period of the PS2's lifetime.

That and the PC has no AAAAE's because the standards of the platform are much higher.

Don't believe me? Read GameSpot's Review Guidelines, they rate games based on the standards of the platform, and with full backwards compatibility and online and HD that has been around for about a decade, the PC has much higher standards.

PC gamers have the most games in the greatest games of all time. Which is above AAAAE since some of those aren't even inducted.

The PC has no AAAA, face it.

Pc is terrible.

AND it doesn't say "PC has higher Standards"

Console does anyway (Halo, Zelda etc.....)

Do you really need to be told more is expected of a PC game due to the larger library and higher quality visuals? Need more proof? Look at how many PC games are on GameSpot's Best Games of All Time List, despite many rating BELOW 9.0. These sub 9.0 games are there in lieu of higher rated console games, simply because the PC has higher standards.

And why do you insist on treating all consoles in the same group? Do they consider them all perfectly equal? The differences between the Wii and the PS3 are about as large as the differences between those systems and the PC.

Yet since no single consoles can beat the PC (and really, all in unison fail), for some reason fanboys decide to combine all the consoles, even though they feel some might be weaker than others.

Scores don't make a game.

Deus Ex got an 8.3 here but it's considered to be one of the greatest games of all time.

Fallout 1 and 2 get AA scores but they're considered to be some of the greatest RPGs of all time

Baldur's Gate 2 scored lower than FF7. 8. and 10 but it's widely considered to be THE best RPG of all time.

If you actually PLAYED them then you'd understand.

I would recomend consoles for alot of kids from the ages from 6-17 because of the fact its more simple to turn on and off, better to play with RL friends (at that age)

Phenom316

Why would it be better for people of that age? All my friends want to play nowadays are Halo 3, CoD4, and Rock Band, and I'm 28. When I was in school, everyone in my frat loved hauling a bunch of TVs and Xboxes downstairs for some Halo, and we still use Xbox Live to play together even though we're scattered across the Midwest and only get to see each other in person once or twice a year.

Why would a console no longer be suitable for playing with my real-life friends after age 18?

Apples and oranges? Of course the pc will be the better out of them as you don't see people argueing about it because they know whats true is true. No need to compare things in totally different leagues.

No standards???

Ok than, you say that GBA game scored 10 is bether than PC game scored 7???

Thats just ridiculous.

Same is with consoles. I know some games scored 8 that beat crap out of console games scored 9,ofc i wont say those are bad games, just that PC is lot more powerfull

Example: Crysis set new standards. Every new FPS that comes out will score low

While on consoles every FPS is similar etc.

It all depends on if you have enough money to keep updating your pc with the latest hardware. Pc graphics are better though if you have a good pc and they always will be of a higher quality than consoles.

i dont know if this has been brought up at all but i was thinking give or take a few years the next new game consoles PS4 or whatever they will be able to produce games of a crysis standard or higher. so it begs the question of:

spending your money on the upgrades that does cost alot (more than a console anyway) is it really worth it to be ahead for a few years?

if you look at the standard of PC games graphics just casting asside crysis for the moment, the graphicaly difference isnt that much. so is it just more of a Keyboard & Mouse Vs Controller?

I myself are spending money on PC to have the best stuff so i can see why just i dont believe that PC 'having the best graphics' is valid arguement anymore.

o0squishy0o
Sorry, but if you actually did the math and knew something about upgrading PC, you would know console gaming cost more.

TC said something about graphics. He said "put crysis aside" as if Crysis is only great looking game.

What about S.T.A.L.K.E.R ? Even "old" games like Quake 4,Doom 3,Half Life 2 could beat todays new console games easily.

pretty much if you like rtss a lot, pc is the way to go.
That being said, if you honestly think the console versions of multiplats are "unstable" you're just delusional.

And lots of pc gamers do lie to themselves. They believe that games like HL2, Doom 3, etc. on the pc look better than most console games.
