[QUOTE="Sniping_Crowbar"]

It may run hot but Sony has had a good track record this Gen of their systems being reliable and not breaking all the time. Ive gone through 2 xbox 360's and i am on a replacement xbox at the moment. The Redesign looks nice but honestly i think the problem is taht they treid to make it smaller, jammed a CPU and GPU in a heasink that is super tiny looks worse than an Intel stock heatsink, i know for sure they use cheap thermal compound as i craked open my first xbox 360 to fix it, and they kept the same **** dvd drive, a 12x one for that matter, there are tray drives that won't scratch your discs you know. I hope this is all a bunch of poop and its jsut a small amount of people,

but Microsoft has a bad track record.

Stevo_the_gamer

Ironically, my experience with Xbox 360s this generation have been much better than with Sony's Playstation 3. I had a Launch Xbox 360 last me till last January. That's more than four years, and my 40GB PS3 died in less than a few months. And I've had my PS3 Slim now since last September, and even that has given me a ****-ton of issues (corrupting saves, turning off randomly, constant freezing, failing to turn off at all). There's always folks getting YLODs as well, and overheating issues as well. Yet a few instances here for the Xbox 360 Slim and it's SW material. So easy to jump on that bandwagon regarding Xbox 360 reliability.

Yet Sony has an even worse track record with the PS1, PSP screens, and the PS2. It was rather surprising to see the PS3 hold up so well in regards to reliability.

Damn you know my friend has had three ps3 over the course of two years so i know there some truth to what you speak........me and my bros launch 360 lasted over 3 years before it finally went to microsoft heaven......but i have a decent gaming pc so a 360 really doesnt matter to me anymore but i hear ya

Well, MS is a Software company so... yeah not a big surprise.

Not just because they are a software company, but hardware issues seems to be a staple of the 360 so I never really doubted the new model would do away with it.

I honestly dont see how this is possible if people re placing the system correctly. Sure, it runs warm, but it doesnt ever get hot...

is this about the same user who claimed its new 360 rdod? and why does anyone care, microsoft had lots of problems with the first xbox 360. so when the new 360 smaller one is launched its expected to be perfect, so if 5 people say they have problems, to the news world that means 10 million people have problems with the new 360. they are only posting this because of the old 360 issues.

Yes it stills kills your disc if you move it during play.

But alas I'm getting one. Gave my old one away to a family member. The slim is $450 here, but I don't care since I'm loaded.

Uh, I am on my 5th Xbox (1)............so no, they pretty much have never had quality hardware.

dxmcat

Why would you buy 5 of anything that failed on you 4 times before? Maybe you mean that you have sent a few back to MS and they have returned them, and those refurbs have failed? I mean I just don't understand why people would continue to buy something they know failed over and over.

I enjoy both my Xbox and my PS3 but if this 2nd PS3 fails I won't buy another one.

And yet both the original Xbox, and Zune are very reliable products.

I know i bought a used xbox for $130 dollars in 2003 and it still works today, extremely reliable console, never had any issues with it, this is why its so frustrating that the xbox 360 has hardware problems some of the worst that i can remember.

That's what it takes to get a one year head start on the competition.... I guess it worked too because the consumers bought and bought.

So are there any real confirmations or is this all just word of mouth? Because I have yet to really see any true cases of an actual failure of the New 360 besides the member on here who posted pictures and such of his console having what appears to be some graphical issues. And that appears to be an isolated case since I've seen no one else really reporting anything similar. What is funny is that I've had next to no problems with my 360 this generation. I got mine on launch day and it gave me no problems until the NXE update and that ended up bricking my console. However I had purchased a new 360 just before that since I got an HDTV and wanted to use the HDMI port in the newer consoles. I've had my latest 360 since early 2008 and haven't had a single problem with it. When I sent in my bricked 360 Microsoft had it back to me within 2 weeks and I turned around and traded it in at Gamestop since it didn't have an HDMI port. The PS3 on the other hand has given me some issues. I first bought a BC 60 gig PS3 only to have it die on me during setup. The screen went all rainbow on me and then when I reset the system it wouldn't truly come back on. So I took it back and picked up a 40 gig instead (this was last November) and I've had a few issues here and there with this one, though it is mostly due to software issues like being booted from the PSN every time I first sign on to having issues getting my trophies to sync and other things like that. However lately I've experienced none of those issues so I'm keeping my fingers crossed on that one. So until I see some actual evidence, I'm not buying into this one bit. I think it is just mostly people wanting it to fail simply because of the issues Microsoft had when the 360 first launched. I find it funny though that people think Microsoft would continue to cut corners which would result in massive failures considering how much the RROD ended up costing them in the end. It is fairly apparent by this point Microsoft is a pretty successful company and knows how to continue to be successful. I think it would be safe to say that they have learned a great deal from the mishaps with the 360 and are doing alot to make sure they don't repeat these mistakes again.

Man this crap is getting out of hand now. there have been 3 cases of the new Xbox 360s failing. The person on here that had it shut down after 20 minutes of play. The person who had the bad power brick, and the joker on you tube that was obviously faking it with the supposed red dot after 2 hours of swapping data between the hard drives. Plug the AV connector back into the back of the Xbox, the red dot will go away. Let's see really dark video, no picture of the back of the Xbox, and it powers up, but no errors on the TV...hmmmm...a little suspicious if you ask me. So really two failures out of the thousands of consoles shipped.

I'm glad to see that the chuckle heads at Destructurd are showing their journalistic integrity and just making an article up without facts. Must be a long line of PS3 fanboys working there too.

Well i've owned my new slim 360 since the day it was released and so far so good, no freeze ups or dots of death. I'll admit it does run very hot, but it also has more vents and a larger, quieter fan, i mean you can barely hear this thing when it's on. So i'm not believing anything yet...not until i start experiencing some problems myself.

just been to xbox.com (again) and there are no threads with people complaining about it (again) so far it's been 5 confirmed units, that's all, you could really facepalm all the guys blowing this completely out of proportion, i am willing to bet the slim's failure rate is below the 3% acceptable failure rate, this is just cows tring to keep the myth alive, but who can blame them, without the RROd and with new built in wireless, they only have ONE thing to bash the 360 for now and that's the lack of blu-ray,lol

I don't know if this is true, but I've been hearing certain threads are being deleted at Xbox.com regarding the new 360 slim. The evidence was shown in that other GS thread about overheating 360s, and I just wanted to give you heads up.

That would explain possibly, why you can't find something at Xbox.com.

It's also possible, that only that one thread was deleted, but it check out that other thread if you want, a fellow GS poster did the research. I didn't care so much, but I just caught your post and thought I would lend a hand.

It's also possible there is no issue as well.

I saw that thread on Xbox.com, and it was probably deleted because the fellas debating within it were showing no limits in regards to trolling, insulting, ect to one another. That is the only viable reason why it would be deleted, this isn't some conspiracy, and that the Xbox mderators are out to hide something as trivial as a single hardware issue on the new models.

similar to a pc which shuts down when internals get to hot. however i think they need to give option to override this. must have been played for several hours. My ps3 gets super hot after a few hours of gaming, but doesnt shut down, although it might be better in the long run if it did lol. I think its a failsafe b/c they really dont want people complaining about overheated xbox anymore. Im sure like they did with those jasper or whatever chips in later 360 models, the new slim will change and be better later when you need it.

Yeah the first Xbox was very reliable. That is the reason it cost MS billions because they used good quality parts in it. The PS2 broke more than the Xbox did and you see the reason for that. Now it seems Sony has gone the route of MS from last gen and they are using quality parts in the PS3 but they are in last place.

its simple ...... no intake of cool air. The 360 and PS3 have to be treated like a PC in terms of cooling. Your basically trying to fit PC like components in a tiny box.

Sure the console shutting down to avoid red ringing is good, because it means it saves your console from death... but don't you think they could have removed the whole "Overheating" option entirely since they redesigned the console from scratch? It doesn't say much about MS that they only addressed the biggest problem with their console in a half-assed, almost-fixed manner when they had the opportunity to completely rectify it. That's assuming that the reports of it shutting down etc. are true, of course, I don't know personally because I have a regular old 360.

They reduced the chip die size considerably. You guys are trying to take very very few instances and turn it into some kind of epidemic. Its laughable really.

According to various reports? Yet they provide no evidence? I love hearsay. How does this even make news?

Respawn-d

The fact that enough ppl have complained that microsoft must make a response is more then enough evidence

Um MS didn't issue a general press release or anything, this is just an email a gaming website got after specifically contacting MS PR about it. There is no news here, just a crappy website trying to generate hits.

So there has been zero reported failures and a couple of consoles having overheating issues, or not as something like a bad heat sensor is just as likely. Everyone just chill the hell out and stop spreading FUD.

Heh...Microsoft. Have a console that's notorious for overheating, make the chip size smaller and then make the case smaller. **** " Slim". Who really needed a Slim console or gave a **** about aesthetics? They should've made a bigger console that worked. Put the smaller chips in that. That's what people cared about: reliability.

The zune and the original xbox are fine. They rushed the 360, we all know this. Their accessories/controllers hold up well, so I'm not sure why you're so angry at them.

Within the context of the entire OS ecosystem Windows has always been behind the curve (e.g. Win 9x wasn't a multitasking OS when even the Amiga, which debuted a decade before, had a multitasking OS). As well as most of their other products, IIS, IE, etc.

Not that everything they do in software is trash. Office is (was?) pretty decent. And while being self serving to lock in users Direct X is rather brilliant.

As does the PS3 and Wii. Leave any console on long enough and it may overheat... the thing is, it isn't a guarantee. I've seen a N64 overheat after being played straight for 10 hours, and then not work until you let it cool down. Overheating is unavoidable.
