amazing how the only people on topic are completely ignored.

As for the off topic people, I GUARANTEE you that about 5 million of the 360 sales are simple people who owned one at launch then had their warrenty run out and only re-purachsed the console because of how many games they already own for it.

The way I see it Sony and Microsoft will try to pull a Ninty and sell low powered, cheap machines, oblivious to the fact that 99% of casual gamers aren't going to buy another console while they already have one while Nintendo makes a powerful console to sell to those who actually buy consoles.

Game development costs too high. Now that we see cases about just one game could potentially bankupt an entire company, next gen, it wouldn't surprise me if Wii2/HD is just slightly less powerful than Xbox 360 and PS3. PS4 and Xbox720 would be just slightly more powerful than their predeccesors. So to those that want real life and CG graphic next gen, don't expect one.

pyromaniac223

Game development does not bankrupt a company, bad management does. The emphasis in gaming should always be fun, are we having fun now? Yes, i can only speak for the PS3, Wii owners... the 360 is rubbish. The next consoles will be capable of more things and better things, that includes things other than graphics. If you want real life, go outside. If you want CG watch an FF game.

Wow. Is it so hard to sound objective for once?

Must be on his mind alot in order for opportunistic bashing.:D

If next gen really does take this route, then I will just call the PS3 my last console and go back to being a PC only gamer (other than playing my PS3)

I would believe it honestly. I mean I've known 3 different people who have actually bought another 360.

I dont see anything wrong with that route. The only people who I would imagine to have a problem with that are graphics whores. As long as the PS4 and 360 are at least somewhat more powerful and offer a new interface and great experience at a fair price then there is nothing wrong with that. I dont want nextgen consoles launching at $500-$700 so if they have to cut back a little on processng power and GPU technology to keep prices fair then I'm all for it. Consoles should always be $299 or less in my opinion.

What are you guys doing, turning my thread into a argument about console unsatisfied customers. I'm just stating that Nintendo, Microsoft, and Sony won't risk developing powerful consoles because game developments are too high. Did Factor 5 not went bankrupt because of Lair?nchan

With increased gaming costs we'll see companies becoming more risk averse. Expect an over reliance on established franchises and genres if the current trends continue. I'm like yourself though and believe Sony and MS will be looking at the Nintendo business model with envious eyes - successful and cost effective is the obvious strategy considering the current economic climate, which in turn equates to less emphasis on high performance and expensive components in our consoles.

Personally I'd prefer if console manufacturers opt for the wii-orientated route for the next gen, with a greater emphasis on innovation and new methods of interfacing with games. This stagnant industry needs it.

I don't think the next gen consoles will have to be more expensive to develop. They will probably use a similar setup but with more RAM and a lot more powerfull GPU's. These two factors are the main reasons why these consoles today are behind. They don't need to develop a totally new CPU with a trillion G.Flops. Both the X360 and the PS3 could easely have run Crysis at the beginning of this gen if it had'nt been for the low amount of RAM they have, the RAM will be more important when developing a console for the next gen.

I think Sony have learned with the PS3 that putting a lot of money in developing a new type of CPU is just stupid when you can put the money in the GPU development instead.

But now that cell is out and parallel next gen Sony can put in 2 or 4 for an upgrade

i'll admit that i am a bit of a graphics whore. but i do sincerely hope they'll keep improving the graphics.

i could deal with the current graphics setting, or even a minor improvements for next gen. the only thing i'll admit is that the interface and way you play the games needs to be worked on. therefore motion controls is a way too that.

As long as sony use common pc parts like Microsoft the console will be cheaper

MS uses 3 cpu's .... so 2, 3, or 4 cell cpus (simular to PC's now adays with 4 cores is nothing to complex) which are made to work together in parallel would not be too complex!!

Tru. Thats where Microsoft has trumped Sony this year. Complexity of development means a lot in this business.

You can call me whatever you wish, I will lose no sleep over it. Regardless, if next gen takes that route, I will do what I said. Label what you wish, it makes no difference to me.
