Great they should cause then more people will jump ship to PC cause the games will look like 8 bit on consoles in comparison :P

nameless12345

Me too. Just got done with a retro session of Double Dragon II, Balloon Fight, and Mario Bros..:P Good stuff.

I don't care about graphics. What I care about is artificial intelligence. I'm tired of buggy as hell AI pulling me out of my gaming experience.

2017? That's beyodn PS3's 10 year life span..... Too much. Too far away. Late 2013-2014's fine.

mitu123

The PS3 was released in the UK in 2007, so that's exactly 10 years.

And in America it came in November 2006 so it would be beyond 10 years for this country.D=

actually sony releases consoles every 6 years....but their consoles keep selling for 10 years

Yeah, I don't agree. Games were far better years ago despite inferior graphics.

Agreed. I blame online multiplayer.

While I am in the camp that bleeding edge technology and graphics are not required for consoles or console games, you need to upgrade to newer technology to push games and graphics foward at some point. This generation has spanned long enough, with the Wii-U launching six to seven years after the Wii and the Playstation 4 and Xbox 720 launching seven to eight years after the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360. Technology has become so much more advance than it was in 2005 and the limitations with the current consoles are growing by the day, and the consoles have been pushed all they can be pushed. It is time to upgrade and move on.

I'll just repost what I already said on the article:

No, we definitely need next gen consoles. The fact that I have had a 1080p TV for 6 years now and my PS3 only has a couple of games that are even 1080p shows that we need stronger hardware. I'm gotten tired of playing sub-HD games with a blurry upscale. I recently bought a 1440p monitor for my PC and in comparison to when I play a PS3 game on my 1080p TV, it looks like someone smeared petroleum jelly all over my screen

2017 thats too much I guess mid 2014 is the best since most likely Wont be that much powerful and it will share all multiplats with PS3/360 so I think Ms and Sony can wait for another 2 years.

Did you notice how visuals improved from Uncharted 2 to the 3rd one. It just keeps getting better. So there's plenty of power left in the PS3.

They actually tried to polish a turd on Mythbusters. I can't remember the verdict. It was pretty gross, though.

He is right about the industry making the same games over and over. The same thing happens on PC, even though it doesn't have "generations" of hardware, per se. You still have new OS's and new hardware constantly releasing.

Sales are falling from the sky. People want something new and are getting their fixes from elsewhere. The Wii U is going to be new competition for the Xbox 360/PS3, it will be seen as the newest console and it will easily make them irrelevant. It is too late Heavy Rain people, next-gen has started.Eponique

Wii-U looks great and all, and I'll most likely buy it (Aliens will be great on it) but it doesn't seem like a generational gap. No doubt the Xbox Next and Ps4 will be much more powerful, because if they don't ecipse the Wii-U in power, it will just be like this generation again.

Of course, that's to be expected from PS3 since there's a massive amount of potential and power in the PS3. Did you notice how visuals improved from Uncharted 2 to the 3rd one. It just keeps getting better. So there's plenty of power left in the PS3.

The Xbox 360 is pretty much done and is ready for the next generation.

[QUOTE="ShadowDeathX"]Part of me agrees with this. Some developers like more power, some don't care. If you, as a gamer, want extra power? You can easily get a PC. No need to wait for big brother to sell you one. The more the PC divides itself in power to consoles, the better for both platforms, imo. More exclusive-centric industry and less multi-platform held hostage by the lowest common denominator

More powerful consoles benefits PC too.

That's why I'm kinda annoyed by EA's decision to make BF3 multiplat.

Bad Company 1 and 2 were great games that were made mostly for console. All the design and visuals looked great and played great on them. Bad Company should have been DICE's console Battlefield series, so that it didn't affect the main series on PC. The fact that they are making Bad Company 3 as well is annoying, because that will just split the fanbase on Battlefield 3 on the PC.

In the end

Battlefield=for PC

Bad Company for consoles

If all the core gamers who cared about graphics switched from consoles to PC, don't you think developers will start catering to PC gamers more???The would easily boost core PC gamer numbers by a good bunch.

Instead of having some people here, some people there, and some people over there, why not unite all the people who like graphics and put them in the PC realm?

It is like having a crappy girlfriend who pleases you once in a while. Sure she will spark and please you for a good bit but after a good bit, she becomes boring yet again. Time to dump her and get a new life. The relationship between consoles and PC should be over and we should get more exclusive content for all platforms, not just multi-platforms games constantly.

Remember in the 90's when the shared library between PC and Consoles was so small? Little relationship between the two and PC had the room to gain more and more power without worrying about consoles? H*ll even consoles within themselves had tons and tons of exclusives. Many developers focused around a single platform and taking advantage of that platform's perks. Now we just got a few top AAA-budget from a few publishers being ported to every console and PC.

hes nuts.. my reasoning: by that time the 360 and ps3 will be a fraction of what a pc could do. we could be playing on holodecks while the consolites would still be in their diapers mastering a controller.. XD

im serious here within the next 5 years MS is planning on producing a consumer friendly holodeck. which is ----ing EPIC WIN

if you want to replace a 360/ps3/wii 2 years before then.. haha your nuts!! prepare to get a boot in the neck by pc gaming then your industry would get torpedoed faster than you could swallow the harsh reality..

Yes yes yes, Amen. The only ones who will benefit from next gen will be those who develop the blockbusters. Japan will be forced to produce less and less for consoles. What is produced for consoles will probably be primarily outsourced.

That's a bunch of bullsh!t and he knows it. People still can't seem to grasp the concept that better hardware doesn't mean just better graphics. We need new hardware to allow developers to do more stuff with gameplay. People complain about the lack of innovation, well part of that is due to a lack of better hardware to allow more complex gameplay scenarios. There's a reason why we've had the five year cycle since the SNES.

Phoenix534

Isn't it funny how a game developer can't see that? It's not just higher poly counts and better textures ffs.

There's a reason why we've had the five year cycle since the SNES.

Isn't it funny how a game developer can't see that? It's not just higher poly counts and better textures ffs.

hes nuts.. my reasoning: by that time the 360 and ps3 will be a fraction of what a pc could do. we could be playing on holodecks while the consolites would still be in their diapers mastering a controller.. XD

im serious here within the next 5 years MS is planning on producing a consumer friendly holodeck. which is ----ing EPIC WIN

if you want to replace a 360/ps3/wii 2 years before then.. haha your nuts!! prepare to get a boot in the neck by pc gaming then your industry would get torpedoed faster than you could swallow the harsh reality..

edison lab tells these punks to shut it in the name of progress

That's pretty damn interesting.

yep kinect despite what folks think about it is the forerunner to the edison lab and when edison lab is done MS plans on mass producing a proper 3d room setup for IT's. after that its on to the consumer. granted they wont be cheap but that will come in time. i expect inital models for such a system for the everyday to cost you a cool 5k+
remember apple is fiddling with a touch screen MS is working with a much broader pallet. likely apple wont even be on the same level once this goes postal

No? Naughty Dog pretty much said they maxed the PS3 out with U3.

Well, look at this. U3 looks noticeably better than U2, so that indicates Naughty Dog probably have said it too early.

that is the most illogical thing I have ever read...

hey thats what they claimed... if thats true then UC3 is simply an extension of UC2 and god of war's next installment wont be that impressive due to fps issues..
