They're close but if MS is hellbent on committing brand-suicide like the rumors are indicating then this could help Sony quite a bit.
The Xbox came in second not first, their ego couldn't be this big unless they actually considered the Wii no competiton, so I would think it's fake.
anot to mention, those Mideaster and African countries, and east aisn countries that have like no connection or no relaible connection at all.
$300.? For real so MS will sell it next gen console with Kinect 2 for the same price as their current 8 years old premium 360.? Do a flash back to 2005,the xbox had no blu-ray,no wifi,no media card reader,no HDMI port,no rechargeable battery on the controller and charge you $50 dollars for online play, yet the console was $400. Even the wii had wifi... This is not so out of this world,if you see how the xbox was $300 and the 360 $400.I don't believe it'll be $500. Not with the specs that are out there right now. Unless the hardware changes $400 tops. If the currect specs are accurate it could even be $300.

Dude, look at the specs. The thing is a piece of crap. Not saying it will but a relic like that definitely could launch for $300. The 360 launched for $300 if you count the Arcade model. And it was a machine that was with the times unlike this one is rumored to be. And Blu-Ray doesn't cost anywhere near now what it did then. Ya can get standalone players for under $100.
The always online is like steam if anything, where you can play games offline. Price points seem plausible and imo it will have backwards compatibility.Heil68
Hmm.

What a disaster. If this is true, and as bad as it sounds, AND is a success...it's frustrating to think about. It's blatantly anti-consumer. AAllxxjjnn
I know what you mean, I would hope that no one would support something like this, but there will be.
Personally, I think Microsoft would be really stupid to do something like this; they're going to split their fanbase.
lol at all these rumors.
there isn't a chance in hell all these rumors are true. Microsoft are easily the most business savvy of the console makers.
they obviously wouldn't be dumb enough to sabotage the xbox brand. They aren't some japanese company out of touch with the western market here.

Ya can get standalone players for under $100.Wickerman777Look at the xbox 360 which is quite a better example.. $300 for the premium model is 8 year old hardware and charge you $60 dollars on top for online play,is incredible that to get a premium 360 with live and 1 games you have to spend more than $400 dollars, this time frame on the PS2 life cycle was $170 for the console and 1 game online play was free. The Arcade model is even more expensive as the HDD was $100,and it came with a wired controller and no memory,so it was quite worst and 64MB memory cards back then were like $40... Going Arcade did not make sense, but we re going by a premium model. Hell the xbox 360 in 8 years has go down in price $100 dollars from its original price, the PS3 has go down $350 dollars in price in 7 years,is very clear what MS want, the xbox 360 still doesn't have blu-ray,the xbox xbox 360 premium now should be no more than $160 and the core model $99.

 So much butthurt. There's a huge chance all the rumors are true. We have leaked documents, Screeenshots of 720 XDK and numerous sources and insiders confirming it. PS4 rumors turned out to be true as well. Better start jumping out if you dislike the rumors. 720 looks like it's gonna be a POS.lol at all these rumors.

Hmm, I'm not even sure what your point is anymore. I guess you're saying that there are extra hidden costs beyond the immediate sticker price? Well yeah, I guess so. But that still doesn't change the possibility that the launch price of Nextbox could be $300 (And I'm not talking about the subscription thing). They've gotta draw their line in the sand somewhere. Either they're gonna try to be the better product or they're gonna want to be the cheaper one. If the rumored specs are true then obviously they're not interested in being better. So maybe MS's strategy with Xbox 720 is mass market pricing. If that's the case $300 at lauch doesn't seem impossible to me given the kind of tech that is said to be in it. And look, often around here people try to pigeon-hole things I'm saying. I'm not saying it'll be $300. I'm not sure what the hell MS is thinking. Just that maybe that could be the case.
Everything but the pricing makes sense. Even with Kinect bundled the Xbox 3 should have a similar bill of sale as the PS4 since Sony is spending so much on memory, so assuming rumours of the PS4 being sold at $400-450 are correct (and they should be, since everyone knows $400 is about the upper limit for consoles) there's zero reason for MS to shoot themselves in the foot like that. If anything they should be able to significantly undercut the PS4, considering they can actually afford to sell at a loss and know they'll make back the difference in XBL subscriptions.
The only other option would be to make the online requirement a little easier to stomach by redesigning XBL subscriptions to offer things like multiplayer and Netflix for free (XBLG is a hard enough sell as-is, never mind if the PS4 delivers on the hype and is selling for $50-100 less), but that throws the $300 SKU out of whack based on MS's current subsidy structure ($15/month for 24 months). I guess there's the third option where the Xbox 3 really is that special/MS really is that delusional, but as-is one of those SKUs is at least $50-100 too expensive.
If by business savvy you mean money hungry then yes they are and that is the reason why these reports could be true.lol at all these rumors.

In MS's mind they are not sabotaging anything they are simply taking their next step toward their ultamate goal of pay-by-the-minute entertainment. They are simply taking advantage of the gross amount of stupid consumers who think if a company puts a price on something it must be worth it. They already tested this idea with xbox live so if you proudly supported that then take a bow you are one of the stupid individuals who helped pave the way to these new rip-off and nickel and dime tactics you are now hearing about.
To the bit about the 500.
But as for the mention about the "must use internet connection", that could mean any number of things.

However, the design and construction of the machine is now accommodating games as just one more feature of the system, as opposed to being the central reason for the console's existence with everything else being a bonus, as was the case with every other console that has come before, including the Xbox 360.Well sh*t. :|

No but calling someone, which was the main point of owning a bloody phone, isn't what its meant for anymore. Unlike calling someone, gaming is a different breed and a once major gaming platform not having gaming as its focus isn't in it for the games, then people have the right to question Microsoft.
Also Day 1, and I will have it preordered, because I know it will be limited stock and probably be sold for 750 on ebay if I dont preorder.

You are assuming far too much to fit your needs of the nextbox being bad. Remember the 360 had the best console library according to scores and second biggest library with Wii having the most. Could things change sure but I am at least going to wait till the console is announced instead of picking and choosing rumors to find the worst ones to believe. I wish Microsoft would just announce already instead of these rumors but it is what it is.If by business savvy you mean money hungry then yes they are and that is the reason why these reports could be true.[QUOTE="BeardMaster"]

yea but the landscape is different now psn is a competitive product, they know consumers are going to be factoring in the online fees more next gen than before.
they need to pack more value in the box than sony to justify those fees to consumers. Always online, $500 price tag, lower hardware specs, no BC, and xbox live fees... Its all just too crazy to be real. They saw just how much the market share shifted last gen, they saw what happened to sony, and sony was the far away front runner last gen, not neck and neck for last. There is no way all these rumors are true and ms thinks consumers won't completely jump ship. They would literally have to be completely out of their minds.
