Sarcasm? GTR2 is the absolute deepest sim that has ever hit the market (aside from its direct successor, GTR Evolution).

I wouldn't go that far. NetKar was comparable (a bit more hardcore on physics, but with less options), the same with rFactor, which is the core game using the engine which all Simbin and Blimey games use (both physics and graphics) and also other GMotor engine-based games like Arca or Turismo Carratera. And then there's Nascar 2003 and especially iRacing, both much more hardcore and deep than GTR series was.But yes....GTR series has been incredible and is one of definitive racing sims on the market.
With Shift..I don't know..the team is incredible, but it's the first time they're doing all the physics by themselves instead of licensing it from ISI and then tweaking, the team has never written an racing engine. On the other hand, they did hire the guy who wrote Richard Burns Rally physics engine, so that's a good sign. There's also question about how much simmy EA will let them be.
Still..it will be a huge surprise for most people, I laugh at their claims about beating everbody else (they won't beat iRacing, nothing will), but I don't think those guys are capable of making anything that's not excellent racing sim.
Nothing will beat iracing, but that's more of an actual sim than even a game. I'll probably try out a free trial when I get my 911 wheel. With that said it's still hard to see what's going on with SMS and Shift. If you read the opening line they say that "4 NFS titles will come out this year, one of which has been entrusted to Ian Bell and his crew at Slightly Mad Studios". So does that mean they are only making the PC version, and the consoles get the EA port? But in the article Bell does mention the consoles...
