i got through half the game by spamming the same move over and over, was rather boring, but effective.
even teh boss in the church part was easily taken down with that
Doesn't blocking make it not a button masher?Chutebox
not really
when you can just press 2 buttons for a minute in a half, clear a room, and not lose any health, it is
the thread could have concluded with this man's post.
We haven't heard this one before...

You expect us to believe you beat Alma with a single used move and I do pray you counted your deaths on that match... For all intents and purpose... Video or it didn't happen.i got through half the game by spamming the same move over and over, was rather boring, but effective.

Anyways NG isn't button masher friendly.
If you had to block, you had to hold a button, not mash it TC... also there's a small window of opportunity to even initiate a counter... Something like.. 3 frames or so.
As for NG, it's nowhere near the button masher friendly of God of War or even something like DMC. (Though DMC forces you to change your style in order to look cooler and get a better "style grade." )
You get a lot of mileage out of that flying swallow move and it's basically the key to beating all the bosses but you can't rely on it alone.JiveT
Not in Ninja Gaiden Black

While calling NG a button masher is rather untrue, you cannot deny that you can mash the buttons and do quite well. I'm about half way through right now and I almost exclusively use the flying swallow attack and the Izuna Drop.
Onizuka36
See now ? You could NEVER use the flying swallow attack effectively, if you button mashed

So are you playing Ninja Gaiden or Ninja Gaiden Black? On what difficulty?
I've found you can spam those moves on lower difficulties, but I would never dream of doing that on Very Hard or Master Ninja, I'd get my ass stomped.

I never thought I would ever say this in system wars but I actually agtee with saolin lmao. Ninja Gaiden does have some button mashing elements but to use the moves effectively and beat the game you have to use good tactics.
I still think God of War is the better overall game period but Ninja Gaiden has an amazing battle system.

Uh oh. :o
That might be the impetus I need to go get Ninja Gaiden Black so I can get in shape for NG2. I think the only part I couldn't rely on the flying swallow move was towards the end of NG regular when those spider ninjas start to swarm you. I wonder if it would be better to get a used copy of Black or download the game for $15. Not sure how much they sell it for used.
When it comes right down to it all games are button mashers lol you hold down the trigger while shooting you push X or A constently to jump out of cars way when they are trying to run you down lol ok im done anyway nice weather huh?CommanderTy
No, a buttonmasher is a specific term used to define a game that you can literally mash buttons at random, and still progress through the game.
For example, I can buttonmash through a lare amount of enemies and bosses on Hard mode in GoW. Therfor it is a buttonmasher.
No one can push buttons at random and succeed at NG, it's impossible because the combat system doesn't permit it. The same goes for DMC.

i encountered maybe 1 actually enemie that it wasnt effective on, i think it liked to block, then of course it doesnt work on that tank you fight early on

Clearly a joke is too much for you to handle sorry bro i was just putting aside all the hate and stuff but yeah i know what a button masher is, but in games that can get intense you do mash the buttons and dont go saying you dont because when you get into it you pritty much destroy the controllerYou cannot "button mash" in NG and ever expect to get through the game. What the hell is wrong with you?I hope your not talking to me because i mash my buttons all the time about put my thumb through the controller or so it would seem because some games can be intense LOL wow its late
KrunkMastaX
Dude, like hell.
Let's see you try and beat NG:B on a higher difficulty setting while mashing buttons; it's just not going to happen.
Yeah, if you play on lower difficulties on the original NG and you want to be bored out of your mind the whole game, then sure you can just spam flying swallow and izuna drop, but don't even bother trying that crap on NG:B, or even one of the harder difficulties in NG, because you are going to get your ass handed to you on a silver platter.
If NG is a button masher
Than what the hell are God of War, Heavenly Sword, No More Heroes, and Devil May Cry 4
I mean all 4 lack the depth, complexity, and sheer speed of Ninja Gaiden.
They would be Button Mashers but on a whole nother level of Button mashing.
