Seems like sony has all the bases covered on the ngp. You get psp/psn/android and ps3 ports so there should be plenty of games. You also have the hardware with plenty of control options from motion to a rear touch pad. You even get 3g for multi-player. The only downside is no backward compatibility with the psp. As long as the price is under the 300 buck mark count me in.Rude_Bwoii

its BC with PSP but only through Digital download games which is still a good number of PSP games.

Yeah I know you can download psp games from psn but you will have to pay for them right ?? If you have a psp already then you would be force to keep it to play your games or sell it and buy the games on psn.

Still have my money on the 3DS. The DS didnt DESTROY the original PSP just because it lacked a second analogue stick!

Daytona_178
The NGP has many more things on the DS/PSP/3DS than a simple second analog stick. Which is pretty big itself.

Well in my case I started recently buying most of my new PSP games from PSN so far I own 9 games from PSN and 30+ games on UMD anyway I dont think I will need the BC on NGP since I'm not planning on selling my 2 PSPs.

[QUOTE="APiranhaAteMyVa"] not really, some people just don't want a handheld ps3 if they already own a ps3, like me. This news does nothing for me, i will be far more interested if they announce some great must have titles, that use the NGP capabilities. This is a positive for those who want ps3 ports though, and it atleast mean sony aren't being stupid and making it impossible to develop for.Nintendo_Ownes7

Little deviants seems like one it looks innovative though we still don't know much about it.

I'm really interested in Little Deviants and Gravity Daze.

Is it just me or Gravity Daze really looks like a wannabe Kid Icarus lol but anyway it looks promising.

PS3 might be losing some exclusives if it truly is easy to port over to the NGP. Maybe they can port multiplat titles easily to it too like RDR and Black Ops and others popular ones like that.

hoola
Good point. Sega gave all of their Genesis exclusives away when they released the Nomad and it was all downhill from there.

I agree, between the cameras, rear touchpad, touch screen and six axis developers better start getting creative... 3DS is a DS with 3D.

Espada12

Uhh the 3DS also has a touchscreen, accelerometer, gyroscope and 3 cameras. The 3DS is far from 'a DS with 3D.' And I still think the trackpad on the back sounds like a horrible idea.

The DS had touch screen, cameras and accelerometer already. Got me with the gyroscope though!

no it didn't :|

How will we classify exclusives if they are on PS3/NGP?? They will still be Playstation exclusive but not to one system.

Fail. No mention of ports. They were referring to the possibility of future PSN games being compatible with both systems instead of them just being exclusive to the PS3 like they are now.

Same here. I find the prospect of playing games like Killzone and MGS4 (is this even confirmed to be an actual game?) wherever I want to be very exciting. What would be REALLY amazing is some cross platform multiplayer with the PS3.

Kojima is a big deal, he can do whatever he wants. Normal people have to comply with their NDA's, or get fired and end up blacklisted from the games industry.

You must have missed the memo breaking a NDA can get you sued/fired and /or black listed. So of course to protect the dev anonymity would have to be in place or the media would get no info or comments. Unless your a supestar in the biz or own your own company and a large one then the NDA is very scary.

Yea Imagine that... a touchpad that doesnt involve putting your fingers over the game you're playing....

......

SRTtoZ

I didn't think of that, I like the idea of the rear touchpad because you don't have to leave the buttons to use it.

Why not you can play say Dark Souls on the ngp for a couple hours then get home and continue where you left off on the ps3. That to me is great.

When they made Shuhei Yoshida both head of SCE Studios and Senior VP of Product Development it became reasonably clear they were trying to create a better development environment.

What if they institute a SteamPlay like system, where purchasing the PS3 version also gets you the NGP version?

[QUOTE="musicalmac"]The games won't be identical (PS3 and NGP versions). It states that in the article. Plans are to include some interplay between the two, not sure what yet. I'm just happy Sony was smart enough to put a pair of analogs on the thing (unlike Nintendo). How is that not an obvious thing in this day and age?Shinobishyguy
the DS didn't even have an analog stick in the first place, and even then it library still ended up better than the psp's (arguable but most would agree) It's really up to the dev's to design games that cater to the system's strong points

Very argyable, ds can bearly have functional 3d games on it, psp does a heck of a lot better there sir.

The 3DS will definitely be more commercially successful, but I think the PSP2 will definitely be the better platform for games and solid innovative experiences (3D will never be innovative for games, just a gimmick). If I find the PS3 is a solid platform (I think my girlfriend is getting me one for Valentine's Day) then I will definitely consider selling off the majority of my 360 library and switching support to the PS3 and eventually get the PSP2.

why would the ngp be innovative? i really can't see the rear touchpad being a game changer, and will most probably be tacked on for many games. As for the touchscreen the 3DS also has one. The 3DS touchscreen can also be used in the same way as the rear trackpad, only it won't feel as natural. i think the cameras and virtual reality cards could be pretty sweet though, if games use them to good effect. I agree the 3d won't change anything though, as the viewing angle is so small that it couldn't be used to change the way you play a game. Still a decent feature though.

is there really a need to be all that innovative? Regular controls work just fine for the industry and proper implementation of them on the go is very innovative that in itself.

Yea since the announcment the 3ds has been all but forgotten in my eyes....I still want one, but cmon, how could you not want the power of the PS3 in your hands, instead of some gimmicky 3d adventure?

Greyfeld

On the other hand, if the NGP is only going to offer a slightly diluted PS3 experience, why would I bother to get one when I already have a PS3?

Because that's not all the PSP2 is. Yes, the PSP2 is very easy for developers to work with as regards to PS3 ports and PS3 like experiences on a handheld, but that's far from all the system is offering. I have no idea where this BS comes from. I mean, did anyone saying this crap actually see the PSP2 conference? Judging by the PSP2 conference, the PSP2 is going to have a big focus on on smaller, new and casual games as well. Little Deviants looks pretty unique and innovative. That trailer showing a bunch of different games for the system showed a massive variety of different games. From PS3 type experiences like Uncharted and Killzone, to casual games like Hustle Kings, to cool looking new IPs like Gravity Daze, to little games that make good use of the touch pads like Little Deviants and Broken. PSP2 is far from just a portable PS3. The fact it can do big PS3 quality experiences in addition to smaller pick up and play type stuff only adds to the quality of the system and its library of games.

That would be cool, but still. If this is the route NGP goes (and little to no good exclusives) I will not buy one. I buy a system for game I cannot play on any other.

Here's another interesting tidbit about the NGP. Some people are wondering why Sony included the rear touchpad on the back of the device and think that it's not necessary. Truth is, Sony added it as choice. Instead of touching the front OLED screen, you can use the rear touchpad because Sony thinks that some gamers wouldn't want to mess with the front screen and having their screen with fingerprints and such. Glad they are giving gamers options.

NGP interferes with the plane, pilots lose track of where they're going, plane crashes into an iconic building in another country, other country sees this as an act of war and launches a retaliatory nuclear barrage at the US, and everyone dies.

[QUOTE="windsquid9000"] NGP interferes with the plane, pilots lose track of where they're going, plane crashes into an iconic building in another country, other country sees this as an act of war and launches a retaliatory nuclear barrage at the US, and everyone dies.DarkLink77

Exactly. Suddenly PSP not so sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeet.

Except for the fact that you can use the Internet on planes now.

I have yet to be on an airplane where it offers internet while in the air :P.. but most airplanes now allow you to play during the flight, you just need to turn off everything during take off and landing.

I imagine though that if it did have wi-fi, given the amount of people likely to be using it, PSN's inability to work that fast on wireless, and being on a plane, I would imagine the game would lag quite badly. That said, how often do most people go on a plane anyways?
