Got the platinum. Good game.

Solid game from level 5. Sure it's got some problems but its was a great experience overall, considering the lack of jrpg's throughout the generation.
game is amazing, people who love jrpgs love it.
Well, not everyone who loves JRPGs. :P
Good game, it made pokemon look even more outdated than it already is. I'll never platinum that game though, the randomness gets too tedious.
I dont know if I would get consider it a sleeper hit. The game was hotly anticipated by everyone who was a fan of JRGP's.
It was a brilliant game however and definitely on eof the best this year.

I love JRPGs and I like Ni No Kuni at the most. And that is if I forego its pacing issues, or just how bad and unwieldy its battle system can become.

Ahahahahahahaha. Ni No Kuni wishes it had a battle system as good as Pokemon's.
@charizard1605: The pokemon battle system is outdated and need a big overhaul. It was ok back in the pokemon red time, but I couldn't finish emerauld and black, I was falling asleep playing.

I am assuming you don't quite know Pokemon's battle system in that case.

If it's so outdated, then why did millions upon millions of people buy the game and enjoy it? That same ole tired argument about "outdated" or "antiquated" gameplay "needing" overhauls or to be rebuilt are just personal complaints that don't match the reality of successful business and happy fans enjoying what they like.
That same principal exists for many, if not all genres, including FPSs.
@Bigboi500: Of course it's a personal complaint. I never claim the world found the battle system outdated. If people enjoy the same old stuff more power to them. I like new experience or some progress in the gameplay. That's why I get bored of video games a lot lately, it feels like I'm always playing the same thing I did 5 - 15 years ago.
Don't question, if that's what you believe make it a statement... "Ni No Kuni is the sleeper hit of the year Bitch!"
All seriousness I think sleeper hit of the year goes to the Wonderful 101.
well i dont know personally i loved it, but maybe because i also love anime and studio ghibli style and stories.

I agree that too many games lack distinction these days, generally speaking. It's a problem that almost all games share, and there is an absolute retardation on imagination and originality that shows now more than ever across the board, outside of the indie/arcade short game experiences.

No, i'll presume that's because you're not looking at unique gems, that's why you get bored of video games. I was in the same boat as you, so i'm pretty sure that's it. There's an ocean of completely unique experiences through the generations, it's just that they're below the visible area. Go past your comfort zone and check some of these 'new', completely unique experiences out. Want me to recommend a couple of them?

I suggest getting a PC.

I plan to, when possible. The only problem is, there are so many PC games out there to chose from, and I don't have a clue about 90% of them, outside the mainstream.
My criteria is simply this: fun and engaging game play. I am not overly concerned about graphics or high-end games, just quality original experiences that have depth and length.
I know they're there, I just don't know where to begin. I have a strong preference for turn-based strategy and fantasy platformer games, and a low tolerance for military themed shooter games.
As much as I love JRPGs, this is one which I haven't yet played. I like the art style but the story and characters seemed a little bit too childish and cringe-worthy from what I've seen of it. Doesn't mean I wont play it in the future though, but I didn't want to gamble paying full price on a game I could end up hating.

yeaaaaaa not really. I love jrpgs and didint care for it at all.

Nobody has a clue about 90% of them, but being at least involved will get you to where you need to be.
You don't even need to buy a new PC to get started.
It seems so. Came out last January and people are still talking about it.
I haven't heard anyone talking about it in awhile. It is a great game however and I still want to finish it. I need to make some time so I can complete the game and start playing Tales of Xillia.

Not even close. Lost Odyssey shits on it, The Last Story shits on it, and Xenoblade shits on in from a great height. There are more, but I don't think I need to list them all.
@Lucianu: sure go ahead, I'm the type who plays everything except mmo and racing sim
You could start off with Nights into Dreams HD on the PC, it's a brilliant game with fantastic, unique gameplay, and a beautiful soundtrack.
It's a remake of the cult classic on the SEGA Saturn. You can also switch to the Saturn version in the menu, to check out the differences, sort of like Halo:CE Anniversary, just not on the fly.

Well that's like your opinion dudeee.
Ni no kuni had some great reviews and the art style shits on all of the games you listed.
Lol at Lost Odyssey, was a mediocre wannabe final fantasy rpg.

I should hope so considering the artwork was done by one of the most revered animation studios in the world.
1. Lost Odyssey was awesome. One of the most under-appreciated JRPGs this gen.
2. It was made by members of the Final Fantasy team, including Sakaguchi, so resembling Final Fantasy is not surprising.

Not as awesome as Ni No Kuni though. Ni No Kuni also had better reviews, so most critics agree with me.
And I knew that it was made by members of the FF team, it's still a wannabe FF though but it's better than FFXIII, I'll give it that.

Eh... I dunno. Ni No Kuni has a lot of problems that the reviewers just ignored.
Meh. I liked FFXIII. Call me crazy.
The lack of "The Wolf Among Us" just shows how bad people tastes are. Best $24.99 I've ever spent on a game and the first chapter is only out.

So you like FFXIII and don't like Ni No Kuni...mmmkay...
I'm starting to think people have lowered their standards with NNK... There were so many greater JRPGs out there this gen
