From every poll, from comments, responses, etc.

nier was the most underrated game of this gen, which brings up a question.

Nier was rated so badly because of the insane fetch quests that the game had, the story, MUSIC, and gameplay was brilliant, but the running around killed the flow.

Would nier be a 8.5/9.0 game RIGHT NOW after all these years, and if they REMOVED the fetch quests and running back and fourth?.

what do you guys think

there are some other stuff besides fetch quest wrong with it. I mean the combat is just ok. It could be much better same goes for graphics. Though I still think if you can look past the flaws you will find a good game.

The most underrated? Nah, there are many better candidates for that. The fetch quests are awful enough, the story takes its time to drum up the interest, the combat is way too simplistic IMO and the dungeons are drab. It's still enjoyable, but it got what it deserved from my point of view.

I think alot of critics looked at the graphics and made up their minds about the game.

Ya know cause ya don't actually have to do them.;)

Not true. The game just has a very loud minority and they always seem to be around when the question arises.

Its so underrated that noone knows about it. I think only 50 people played it. And I believe Grand Theft Auto 4 and Super Mario Galaxy 2 are this gen. OoT as well, since it came out this gen.

What? Didn't it come out last year? Am I in the future or something?

Also, bad game. It would still probably get a bad score, maybe worse.A bad game doesn't get better with age.

Nier looks kind of boring. I haven't played it yet, so what do I know.

For me personally the one "gem" I really enjoyed was Dark Sector. Did pretty bad critically, but I had a blast playing that.

A bold statement with no support... Have yet to play Nier, but I definitely doubt it's the mot underrated title this gen.

I'd think of lots others

Mirror's Edge, Darksiders, Dark Sector, The Darkness, The Bourne Conspiracy and that's just off the top of my head. I'd say play those games easily over Nier.

If NIER could have been made on like an FFXIII engine with that graphic quality and fetch quests became less repetitive and more like actual quests, would have been RPG of this gen bar none. Otherwise, its only arguably best console RPG of this gen.

I found Node interesting. I'm not into reading texts and running around fetching things. The levels are huge...open empty spaces with not much action. I liked the different views, and genres blend. But I didn't have the patience after a few hours. I bought it after hearing on SW how good it is. I had more fun with FF13 than this game.

The characters and story are both really good. The party of character is small, but each character has some major purpose, some major flaw. The story mixes sci-fi and fantasy in a unique way. There are multiple endings, after the first ending, you learn something major and important about the plot, so you start off a new game+ from like the half way point, and each scene has content that reflects what you learned from the first ending. There are countless scenes where I felt deep emotion for the characters, and it has basically never happened in other games.

But the soundtrack, isn't just good, I find it to be one of the best of all time. It may not be as obvious to people listening to it for the sake of listening, but when the music is combined with the memories of what happened, it creates quite strong emotion.

well...when u put it like that lol.. Ill give it a shot.. its hysterically cheap down under (i think ive seen it for $20-30 AU) so ill give it a shot. One thing which u said really raised my eyebrow.. new game + AND puts u around the middle and not start... Im a $ucker for new game + u sir just convinced me to get it

Wow at some people. Guess what? you don't have to do EVERY quest in the game, jeez. Part of the reason why I hate this tropy/achievement/completionist era. People are so set on getting 100% that they'll play through things they hate. And on the other hand, people will skip over games because they know their OCD will make them play the crappy side quests.

I loathe anyone that speaks poorly of NIER! Yeah, that's right! I enjoyed the side quests, many of which had really interesting, yet subtle stories behind them - a couple being quite emotional. Do you people read the text? The combat did the job & I actually thought it was quite satisfying. Overall I thought the game was a brilliant package. Definitely the most underrated this gen, & in my top five at least.

NIER is one of those special games. Not just because of the game itself, but it's one of the few games I actually get frustrated when others talk about it. There are times when I disagree with people, but can understand their views. When it comes to NIER, I think some people are just off the planet.

heh, i remember reading the game informer review and thinking wow when a mag whose sole purpose is to move copies of games out the door of your local gamestop gives you a 65 you have some serious problems.

The combat needed some serious polishing, and some areas were such a chore to go through (like the robot factory, that you were forced to fight through more than once.

A revamped sidequest system would greatly increase NIER's quality. That was the only problem I had with it. Aside from the tedious fetch quests, NIER is a freakin masterpiece of epic proportions. I urge everyone to give it a chance.

My biggest problem with the side quests is that even though they're optional, you really don't want to skip them because a lot of them have great dialogue between the father and Wiess, as well as some amazing little side stories. You can skip the tedious fetch quests, but you will also be missing out on some special moments. It's kind of a bitter sweet affair.

I just started playing it yesterday, and obviously I can't formulate a real opinion on the game, but it seems fairly dull so far. The combat seems mediocre at best. I'll judge it more fairly when I've put more time into it.

NieR is a good game, imo, but I do think the fans overrate the story. The first half of the game is just going to dungeons, looking for work and a cure for Yonah's sickness. Simple stuff. It isn't until the halfway point that the story gets interesting, but imo, the second half felt rushed; they threw everything at you in a matter of hours, which made some moments not as emotional as they wanted it to.
Freya's death scene didn't have an impact on me, since we didn't see much development of her. She appeared for just a few minutes throughout the game.
Though, the playthrough for ending B was well-done, imo. As for the quests, I also think they're tedious. They're mostly fetch-quests with no good pay-off, imo. Yeah, you get some witty dialogue between NieR and Weiss, but you see a lot of that in the main campaign.

Loved the soundtrack, characters (Weiss, NieR and Kaine), and boss fights. Everything else is a mix-bag
