Nier is the most underrated game ever.

Proving graphics don't matter. Excelling in storytelling, characters, music, gameplay, ideas and pretty much everything you can excell in. Nier is gaming excellence. How did this game go about getting so much hate ?

It is much much better than any of the other drab rpgs this gen has mustered up ( excluding Valkyria Chronicles of course :P )

Final Fantasy XIII, Lost Odyssey, Star Ocean 4 and Infinite Undiscovery have nothing on this.

Nier is a underapreciated gem.

Critics have never gotten any review of any game ever, so wrong. Shame critics. Shame !

I agree, 200%. Best game of 2010, one of the best of the gen. In my opinion.

I played this game its worthless booring enemies quest.

I think we need games like Nier and El Shaddai every once in a while.

But we would get bored of them if they overloaded us with them, unique games are good.

I'm planning on continuing it pretty soon here. Music was very good and characters seemed interesting enough.

I'm just waiting to beat the game, find out that those who played Nier are playing one big prank by saying how incredible it is, then join in on the fun. :P

Imo, and even though it recieved decent score, Mario Sunshine is the most underrated game ever. It deserves just as much praise as the galaxy series--well, ALMOST as much.

Loving it. I actually kinda like that it isn't entirely open-world. Let's them focus entirely on the storyline and the characters which has been amazing so far. The combat is also incredibly fun and I really like having the Crystarium instead of just gaining experience and leveling up like you do in pretty much every other RPG.

I love the storyline as well, the characters are great with the exception of Vannille (although her story becomes very interesting later on) and maybe Snow (he has the worst Hero Complex ever seen.) I love Sazh, he's probably my favorite character.

So, basically, taken on its own merits, it's a great, streamlined, focused (no pun intended) RPG.

Not only that but when under the radar games get good scores they act like it's the second coming. I saw that on IGN with Demon's soul and it seems it's the same way here.

the gameplay has much to be desired. It has an utterly useless levelling system and it is a shameless button masher. To compensate for the imbalanced combat they made the game very easy. Side quests are very unnecessary and very boring. The plot has high points but also low points, much like the characters. The plot and characters develop in meangingful ways, especially towards the end, but both are dragged down by melodramatic shlock. If you like this type of game (action adventure) you will be able to put up with Neir's many glaring flaws. I'm a fan of the genre so I enjoyed the game enough to play it to the end but it just seems like it lacks the attention to detail that games like Zelda have. Imo, Neir is style over substance

An example of it's excellence; After my 2nd playthrough my perspective on the characters and story changed entirely from the first playthrough. Without giving too much away, there is no real "good" or "evil" side in NIER. Just people fighting to protect the ones they love, and trying to find light in a dark place. The story is quite tragic and holds nothing back.

It's never clarified but this is the case. Reading Grimoire: Nier answers a lot of questions.

Prepare for a slow build-up. The meat of the plot is revealed during the last 10% of the game and second playthrough.

How do you know it's overrated if you haven't even played it yet? And I expect great things from Xenoblade if it's story and soundtrack can even come close to Nier's.

That's a simple and blunt way to put it but that's the beauty of the plot. The story is perfectly fine with treading volatile waters without treating controversial topics as if they're...... Well, controversial.

That's an impressive feat in an industry, where edgy plot design constitutes integrating a female portagonist who's a tightasses version of Marcus Phoenix, with breasts.

No offense Gears, such critique applies everywhere.

Edit: The game does in no way feature incest in any shape, form or insinuation :P It does feauture possession complexes.
