Well, not too long ago Team Ninja boss Yousuke Hayashi said they that Team Ninja was still Team Ninja, despite the departure of studio founder and resident badass Tomonobu Itagaki and many of the studio's other lead designers, but it seems like he wants to differentiate the studio's new projects from Itagaki's.

The Story:

Famitsu.com has postedan interviewwith Team Ninja head Yousuke Hayashi. In the interview, an expanded version of an interview that appeared in Weekly Famitsu last week, Hayashi shared some comments on Ninja Gaiden 3 and also set the record straight on some MIA Team Ninja projects.

Ninja Gaiden 3 was first announced at the Tokyo Game Show as being in development for an undisclosed platform. Tecmo Koei shared a single concept visual at the time (shown below).

This visual is full of hints about the direction they'll be taking with the title, said Hayashi to Famitsu. Famitsu asked for what kind of messages people should be looking for, but Hayashi responded "We're trying not to say directly. We'd Like to hear everyone's discussions. When we actually share specifics on Ninja Gaiden 3, we'd like to be able to say, 'It's actually like this.'"

Pressed further, he shared a couple of hints: "He seems to be doing something with right hand. Also, there's something not normal about this hand. It's covered in blood, but there's something unnatural regarding the blood."

Hayashi was more willing to share the general direction they're taking with the game. "Ninja Gaiden 3 is a numbered title. We're developing it with the idea of restarting at the beginning, saying 'We'd like to make the action game that's most interesting for the current era. With this meaning, it's going to be a game that's not bound by the past more than necessary. Of course, we will be valuing the past, but in a good meaning we'd like to make it into a game that's not tied down by the past."

Even though they're not saying much at present, it looks like the project is pretty far along. "Development is progressing well," said Hayashi. "We've already completed an internal prototype. We held a sampling event for the prototype, and it was well received within the company. It will be a bit longer before we share info with everyone."

More info about Team Ninja's other projects after the jump.

Sorry if old, I checked the last five pages and did a search, and I didn't find anything.

Anyway, SW, what do you think? Are you more hyped for NG3 after hearing this, or less?

Just hope that Ninja Gaiden 3 has just as much exploration as Ninja Gaiden Black.

tbh I don't think any aspect of the story should affect the hype for this game.

I hope it goes back to the NG1 feel rather than NG2 with its linear progression.

the best part is Itagaki will probably talk trash about NG3 when it comes out.

lets just hope new guy doesn't mess up the combat or the difficulty.alfredooo

Given how Hayashi handled NGS and NGS2, you can expect it to be pretty easy.

@DarkLink- Lets not sugarcoat it the NGB story was terrible. It was a nice excuse to kill demons and crap. That game would have been fine if you just randomly went forward for no real reason since that's what it was like anyway :P @alfredo- Yeah I don't care if the story sucks if the combat is on point. The combat in the 2nd game was SOOOOOOOOOOO good(probably still prefer it over Bayo....nah Bayo's was better....but NG2 was more visceral....but Bayo had styIe.....ah ......) but man was it unfair as hell at times. That said in theory this game shouldn't have that problem. NG2 was rushed, and Itagaki stopped giving a **** because of his falling out with Tecmo. I'd imagine the game would have been godly status had that not happened, but whatever. Maybe Hayashi won't suck.......lord knows he don't got Itagaki's swagger ;(

NG2 badly lacked polish, but even on the hardest difficulty available at the start of the game, you could get through it.

This is the guy who decided to replace all the blood in NG2 with purple mist in NG2:S, and to dumb down the difficulty, right? I'm not expecting NG3 to be on the level of its predecessors, in that case. Next thing, the bad guys will probably all wield walkie-talkies instead of swords.

WOW, I can't believe they are going to restart from the beginning with a game's story, which I do not give a damn about. So, I should just whine about it anyway ,right? Yousuke Hayashi, just make sure the game is balanced and that the combat on par or better than NG2.

meh, I thought NGS had a good difficulty, plus there's always the harder modes. But I'm not holding my breath for 3, reboots are too hit and miss. First DMC, then NG, next: GoW! I can't wait to see who replaces Kratos.

It didnt need any adjusting, NGB was made harder for a reason and is considered to be almost perfectly balanced. Playing the Sigma games, i always felt there was something missing.:(

Eh, that's basically what I meant. I'm not saying it was good (Ryu's a brick, the characters are 1D, etc), but it did provide some really cool bosses/enemies. That's basically what I was trying to say. Not that the story in Ninja Gaiden (or any hack n' slash, tbh) matters, anyway. :P

NG was one of my all time favorite series starting on the NES, NGB solidified the series and the premier hack and slash to go to for my fix. NG2 was a bit of a disappointment after the amazing first reboots. NGS2 fixed the majority of issues, but still retained a few. I realize many gush over Bayonetta, and while an absolutely great game, it just cant compare with Ninja Gaiden imo. I hope this new guy can keep what made the game great while keeping it balanced.

doable? sure but it was also needlessly stressful. The point is NGB felt rewarding where the sequel felt cheap. It felt hell bent on challenging you for the sake of being "hard". Where as NGB was challenging, but far more engaging. When you got your ass kicked in NGB it was because you weren't good enough. Where as in NG2 there are plenty of times where you just feel like you got screwed over.

You know what? They can cheese up DMC5 and NG4 all they want. As far as I'm concerned, there was plenty of that to begin with.

If they keep doing what both franchises do best, both games are going to be a blast.

So NG2 was definitely a bit gutted but DMC4 was awesome despite being both cheesy and cringeworthy at times.

And everyone used to think Dante was a lame girlman so I pay no heed to the new emo complaints. You guys did'nt like the former Dante either (ofifcially).

I agree, it has plenty of cheap moments that infuriating, and the challenges are also far too hard, but you could still get through most of the game if you play properly. As for NGB, the pacing and level design were perfect, then throw in a combat system thats highly tuned, you get one of the best games ever. I really doubt Hayashi has the same vision that Itagaki did.:(

As long as it keeps the same combat engine as NGBlack, It'll be fine. NG is the best hack-and-slash out there, hope they don't screw it up now that Itagaki left.

Nah you buggin Dante was fine the way he was. There action games. Storyline/plot was unimportant, and the games were amazing(NGB and DMC 3 were at the least) in spite of terrible plots. This new direction for both franchises is just another element of trying too hard to do something neither developer is particularly good at. While ruining aspects of the game that made it awesome in the first place. Although admittedly Team Ninja can at least make awesome combat. Ninja Theory is destined to **** up Devil May Cry with their horrid track record for game play.

I'm in the minority. I like the new Dante. Twilight fangirls will be all over that.

This excites me though. I wonder what the new Ryu will look like if he changes.

Yep. The guy could be an ass at times, but it doesnt bother me one bit who makes the games as long as they are great. I dread seeing NG3 with 5 playable characters from the DOA series and super nerfed difficulty. Hyashi is too far out of tune with the fans, but at the same time feels he knows whats best for us. Its a sad situation.

This doesn't really affect my hype for the game. I don't love the NG games for the story, its the gameplay that catches me. Now I just need to hope that Ninja Theory doesn't turn Ryu into a depressed meth addict vampire
