I enjoyed Heavenly Sword and would love a sequel so hopefully this can be good. If Capcom wanted to bring DMC back from the "dead" as quoted by the TC then it should have went to platinum games who have the genre defining game in Bayonetta.

...But the DMC franchised never died though. The story is a prequel right?
I think at some point Dante will meet up with someone or something that takes him from emo form and he kind of grows up and turns into the arrogant prick he was in the first game. Which would be awesome, and totally unexpected, and lets face it it won't happen.
Yes, and no. NT's DMC will no longer serve as a preboot due to the fan reaction. DMC will be a entire reboot all together. The story is a prequel right?

I agree it hadnt died, I was just quoting the topic creator! I think he does have a point though that it needed a reboot of some description though as games like Bayonetta have surpassed it. If Ninja Theory are the best developers for the series, remains to be seen but I think they should be given a chance. I personally would have liked to seen Platinum games reboot this, and I think the original DMC creator is studio head there.

both of you are wrong. First, a reboot can't be a prequel and they always referred to it as a reboot until they started the damage control. That is when they started with the pre-quel BS. Second, in DMC3 was when Dante first discovered his powers and in the reboot's gameplay trailers he already can activate the devil trigger. And third, the Dante of the original series was the son of a demon and a human so he was half human but in the reboot Dante is the son of a demon and an angel so he's not even human anymore...

I'm jst going by that last video that the designer from Ninja Theorry was in. When the game was first announced both he and Alaex Jones (Capcom) both said the game would serve as a prequel as well as a reboot. All the links I provided are from when the game was first announced. BTW I'm aware of the DMC storyhttp://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/21/capcom-dante-redesign-raises-dmcs-visibility/

Well now they finally admit that it's not canon.

Tameen from NT says"It doesn't take place chronologically before or after the other games" regarding DmC.
Best to avoid this game and just wait for DMC5 which should start development once Capcom finishes the craptastic Dragon's Dogma. I would have much preferred if they gave a new IP like DD to NT whilst they work on DMC5 in-house.
Didn't people enjoy DMC4? I mean it was awful or anything... at least on the DmC scale.aaronmullani actually liked it i went to a convention 2 years ago and met johnny boch neros voice actor :D
On the basis that I loved both Heavenly Sword and Enslaved, I'm willing to give this a shot. I just don't see Ninja Theory having the ability to develop a deep combat system. I thought Enslaved's combat was decent, and Heavenly Sword's excellent, but neither was deep like a DMC game supposedly entails. We'll see.

I agree with you 100%I don't know why people are freaking out so much about new Dante, I never played DMC for it's story or characters, I played it to kill demons in the most over the top way with impossible weapons.ShrabstersNot just the character it's more of a gameplay concern. THe DMC tit;es were alsways known for providing depth when it comes to the gameplay. Something that Ninja Theory isn't known for crafring into their games. Also another gripe would be the game running at 60FPS and being built on the Unreal engine (you can can tell the difference I.E DMC1,3,4 vs GoW and Heavenly Sword 60FPS compared to Gow3's 30) not saying those two titles are bad, but I prefer my Hack & slash titles to have fast paced and fuild gameplay.
it's not even 30 fps.
it's Ninja Theory 30 fps.
which, in the real world, actually means 15 fps.
there you go.
That's so true. Both their previous titles never had a steady frame rate and at times dipped far below 30fps. They are not magically going to become better devs, in fact they have put them self in a very dangerous position which will expose them. I mean their last titles were new IP's so gamers and critics let the major problems slide like repetitive design, frame rate issues, shallow gameplay, length etc. DMC is an established IP, their crap wont fly this time, the issues in their last games will be glaringly obvious this time to everyone and people will realise NT truly are just 3rd rate devs suited for motion cap only.it's not even 30 fps.

Dante was a big part of what made DMC what it was (besides the addicting/challenging gameplay and intriguing storyline). I'm not going to buy this game expecting to fight Jacob as the final boss.
Are you still not convinced that DmC is going to rock our world?!TankBusterJenn
.......goes back to playing bayonetta

funny and sad at the same time.

Well Obsidian actually develops good games it's just that their programmers suck for the most part.I actually think Heavenly Sword was a good game and Ninja Theory isn't a particularly bad developer...but this "new" DmC just doesn't look good...AT ALL. The Devil May Cry series didn't need rebooting...all it needed is for Capcom to stop backtracking the storyline and just pick off from where Devil May Cry 2 left off! It just looks like another hack n' slash game and Ninja Theory was given the rights to slap the DmC name on it to make it sell.

I don't think Capcom should acknowledge DMC2 at all, the fans dont. I mean DMC2 didn't even start off as a DMC game, it happened half way through development. As far as I am concerned DMC2 and DmC are putrid filth, both have nothing do to with the canon established in the 3 games and books.
To be honest, I didn't really mind the new design for Dante. What I am angry about is the new game's play style. In the first demonstration, I saw air combos that lasted for 10 seconds -- that would just scream "HIT ME" to enemies the older, real DMC games. It looks like it's going to be watered down to the point where you just enter in dial-up combos rather than using timing, distance, and reaction along with a moveset to creat your own combos. That, to me, is the disappointing part.
They should get an S rank on every mission on Dante Must Die mode in DMC3 so they get a better picture of DMC's playstyle.

Well I meant everything just from a cronological point of view since the storyline goes: DMC 3 - DMC 1 - DMC 4 - DMC 2 (which is ironically the exact order in which I like the games). Even though I would like to know Lucia's fate...
