Not looking good for nintendo :(
This topic is locked from further discussion.
Yeah, but for a feature that is built right into the device's name, that's not good. Hopefully it is exaggerated.Luckily, you can... *gasp* turn it off.

The 3D effect, dude. The 3D effect. But isnt the 3d the main selling point of the system? Why just keep it off all the time?Luckily, you can... *gasp* turn it off.

I'd say it's just a matter of getting used to the 3d effect. Give it time, and I'm sure your eyes wont get strained so quickly.

If there are so many reports, how come the only place I've seen this mentioned is at that site you linked to, and they have nothing to back it up?

lol come on now! He is right, the name is the 3DS and its what the big feature of the system is. I want a 3DS and will get one sometime down the road I am sure. That said, I would have MUCH preffered they just made it a higher resolution screen llike the NGP is. The tech of the NGP is more impressive and practical, but the 3DS has some amazing games.

Eh, I just don't care about 3D gaming/movies/TV. I'm buying the 3DS for the games. :P Sucks if you just want it to play in 3D, though.[QUOTE="DarkLink77"]

What amazing games are you referring to?Of course an amazing game is an opinion and anyone can argue any systems games. But I am reffering to:
Paper Mario (some of the best RPG's IMO)
Mario Kart (the DS one was amazing, hopefully this one is too)
RE: Revelations (not too much known yet, but it has potential)
Ocarina of Time (remake, but it is updated and hopefully will have more content)
Star Fox (same as OoT)
MGS: ? (do we even know what they are doing yet? I don't think its a port though. Maybe a complete remake of 3, which is still awesome)
Kid Icarus (although this one is iffy to me)
and tons of others like:
animal crossing, fantasy life, time travelers, dragon quest, street fighter, mega man legends 3, and tons more.
Well duh! The 3D effect makes a person use both their eyes to focus on the images. People have one dominant eye and one they don't use as much, so it puts a strain on that eye. It's not harmful, just works that eye kind of like an arm that's lifting weight. People overreacting as usual...
I know that some people will say "then what's the point of getting a 3DS?", but you are correct. My biggest concern is that so far, Nintendo hasn't really shown off any games that are compelling in their own right without the 3D.Luckily, you can... *gasp* turn it off.

Sheep never hyped the 3D effect.

But isnt the 3d the main selling point of the system? Why just keep it off all the time? Who said anything about keeping it off all the time you turn it of and on as you see fit if its like 3D on my t.v then eyestrain does set in after a hour or so but on 3ds you can turn the 3d effect on and off whenever you went with just one finger and you don't have to turn it completly off i find that the more i raise the 3d effect on my pc the more straining it is on the eyes and the less of a 3d effect is less straining.[QUOTE="DarkLink77"]

Thing is, we use the 3D effect naturally whenever we look around the real world. Thing is, the 3DS can't perform some of the additional visual cues upon which we rely to determine depth. For example, you can't accommodate a 3DS/3D movie picture (that is, you can't focus on specific depths in the picture--the focus is fixed by the director). The picture also doesn't perform parallax when we move our eyes/face relative to the picture. Then there's the cues from the ears (saying we're not moving) conflicting with those from the eyes (saying we are). These lacks (or conflicts) of cues make our brains work overtime trying (and usually failing) to make sense of the sensory inputs, much like what happens when people get seasick.Well duh! The 3D effect makes a person use both their eyes to focus on the images. People have one dominant eye and one they don't use as much, so it puts a strain on that eye. It's not harmful, just works that eye kind of like an arm that's lifting weight. People overreacting as usual...

[QUOTE="DarkLink77"]Yeah, but for a feature that is built right into the device's name, that's not good. Hopefully it is exaggerated. I think it's like how Pachter said (for once he may be right here), like new glasses your eyes have to adjust, once your eyes adjust to the 3D on 3DS it won't be so bad. It will still cause eye strain even DS and PSP do, but maybe a bit faster.Luckily, you can... *gasp* turn it off.

I wonder how that could be possible given the technique behind the 3D...
It isn't different from viewing something else in life that has depth, safe for it being a screen, with a certain framerate, and having more space between the pixels horizontally.
Would that be it? That the screen has more distance between visible pixels horizontally than vertically?
I doubt it...

Not surprising I could have...and wait I did tell you this a long time when this whole Pseudo 3d crap started up... I wont buy a 3ds for 250 dollars If it was 150 Id just play it with 3d turned off all the time but not at 250.
Gamespot had a live stream & the ppl hosting the preview siad that during the press events they played it for about an hour & loved it....no complaints of eye strain. I think there are just a select few. Also dont forget the casuals who aren't used to looking at a screen as much as we are.
There wasn't even that many complaints during Nintendo's 3DS event and people there were playing it more than 5 minutes. Everybody's eyes are different, some can handle 3D fine while some can't. I have no problem with 3D movies so im sure I'll be fine with the 3DS.
Some games are more eye straining than others. Like Pilotwings' 3D is just unnecessarily powerful, but other games like Street Fighter IV have a more tame effect that actually lets you enjoy the visuals. Just let developers get used to the new tech or if you want, try to adjust you eyes to it. Also you don't have to have the 3D effect at full blast, you can have it anywhere in between.
