any game can cause strain on the eyer lol , roadsters did that back in the day on the n64 i had problems with it when i f irs played it but
no 3d isnt really the selling point
the games and price and any thing in between ,
and before you say this is bad not really , cause 3d tvs do the same thing
and plus 3ds does have upgraded graphics

I thought games were the main selling point?

lol come on now! He is right, the name is the 3DS and its what the big feature of the system is. I want a 3DS and will get one sometime down the road I am sure. That said, I would have MUCH preffered they just made it a higher resolution screen llike the NGP is. The tech of the NGP is more impressive and practical, but the 3DS has some amazing games.
What amazing games are you referring to? *pauses* *glances around* OOOH LOOK ITS 3D!!We haven't heard enough opinions to reach a consensus. I'm interested in hearing what people here have to say before go out and spend 250 on a 3D device I might primarily be using in 2D.Good to know one person's opinion owns all. The consensus is that the 3D is fine.
Big_Pecks
And yet it's a feature they're charging a premium for. Because the hardware specs themselves certainly aren't worth it. I'm not going to waste $250 on a 3DS and only be able to play the 3D for five minutes. That's a waste. Might as well buy a DSi.Luckily, you can... *gasp* turn it off.

I was going to say something similar to this, excpet for the "might as well buy a DSi" part because of the tinyproblem of missing out some awesome games like paper mario,so I'll just gonna say:
"glassless 3D is the future!!!"
If Avatar, which is a three hour movie, didn't give me eye strain, those people who have problems after 5 minutes should probably avoid that movie at all cost. yoshi_64I just find that hard to believe you hard no problems? even people that enjoy Pseudo 3d from what I hear had a problem sitting and watching a 3 hour pseudo 3d movie..
This. I'm pretty sure the 3D is going to murder the battery life, so I'm most likely going to turn the feature off 90% of the time anyway (and just flip it on to be wowed for a few minutes :P).Luckily, you can... *gasp* turn it off.

See HuusAsking post above. Explained quite well. Nice, that does explain it a little. Though as a non-expert i would expect brainstrain, not eyestrain :P[QUOTE="KungfuKitten"]
I wonder how that could be possible given the technique behind the 3D...
It isn't different from viewing something else in life that has depth, safe for it being a screen, with a certain framerate, and having more space between the pixels horizontally.
Would that be it? That the screen has more distance between visible pixels horizontally than vertically?
I doubt it...DerekLoffin

isn't the 3d tech used in movies different from the tech used in the 3ds?
Not that different. Their primary differences are in how they get each eye to see a different thing and pull off the stereoscopic effect. Theaters use polarized glasses and projectors. 3D TVs usually rely on precisely-timed LCD shutter glasses. The 3DS uses a technique called a parallax barrier that makes different columns of the picture focus at alternating angles--the renderer just takes those columns into consideration. All three basically keep the wrong eye from seeing the wrong picture, but each has its disadvantages. The theater approach requires special projector hardware to make sure the right picture is projected with the right polarization. The TV approach also relies on precise timing signals from the TV and (because of the shutters) creates an inevitable flicker. The parallax barrier has a very narrow effective field of view which is not as problematic given the typical holding patterns of portable gamers (basically in their faces--prime viewing angle). Furthermore, all of the techniques use just one of the techniques humans rely for determining depth--stereoscopic vision. As I mentioned previously, none of these allow you to accommodate or observe parallax (few technologies can achieve this, but they have their own limitations). Plus there's the problem of simulation sickness, which can happen with any 3D technology since it's a physical limitation.Ok, almost the entire launch constis of ports, 250 is not an attractive price for me, and it could hurt my eyes, the 3-5 hour battry life doesnt help for me to get the maximum battery life i have to play it like a OLD GBA. in a big light. Great, im just going to buy the NGP at this point.
Well, there are also a few who have the same thing with 3D movies and games, I for myself never had any troubles, even when playing several hours 3D, I doupt the 3DS will cause any problems for me. I feel sorry for those who really have problems with it, I feel even more sorry for the haters who spread those rumors because they don't like the company / don't have enough money to get one
If I can't leave the 3D on while I use it I would rather buy a NGP in all honesty, this is the entire point of the 3DS (its not just games because if it was we wouldn't have so a ridiculous price tag).
You will get used to it, it's similair to when you get new glases, you have to get used to them. Wear them 2 maybe 3 days before you feel comfortable again, not 5 minutes. And did you guys really think Nintendo didn't test the 3DS first, lol, come on now, they should learn from their past mistakes.
Turn it off..and then your 3DS turns into a 2DS...and then why on earth did you just pay 250 for it then?Luckily, you can... *gasp* turn it off.

Because people have habits of buying $250 products to use in 5 minute increments
Considering the battery life is only 3 hours, that doesn't sound like a bad idea.
Three hours...why aren't people freaking out about this? PSP at four hours was considered the anti-christ of gaming hand held battery life.[QUOTE="Rekunta"][QUOTE="DroidPhysX"]

No gamer is buying the 3DS solely for the 3D effect. I'm personally buying it for Ocarina of Time, Star Fox, Kid Icarus, Paper Mario, Mario Kart, Resident Evil, Metal Gear Solid 3, and of course: POKEMON!!!
The 3D effect will be cool and all, but ultimately, every system is defined by its games.

Off topic but this goofy kid was playing the 3ds at my local game store and then suddenly shouted out "wow this is awesome 3d without the glasses". He must work for Nintendo.BigBoss255This is why it prints money...lol. Can't wait to sell mine on ebay when it's sold out.

You're still going on about this?
I got a 3d tv a month ago and i found the tech to be very troublesome. Even when it was slightly off, my eyes did to much work trying trying to focus that i gave myself eye aches. I don't mind having to turn the 3d off if necessary, but after seeing the 3d effect in games working properly i'm really hopeful that i can manage the 3ds. It's really a neat experience.
This makes no sense to me. Granted, exposure to 3D will cause eye strain for many people, but after only 5 minutes? That makes no sense to me. Tons of reviewers have got to test and have hands on time with the 3DS since it was announced and none of them have reported similar issues. I wonder if the problem is more due to some users not being the right distance from the screen to ensure the best possible image.
Luckily, you can... *gasp* turn it off.

Haha I'm thinking of doing the same, these thing will probably be going for 150% of the RRP after it's sold out anywhere. There's good money to be made.

People are complaining about $250 being too much money for 3D, but will they complain about NGP being $300 or more, for what, slightly better graphics and a second thumb stick? Greatly improved graphics. Second thumb stick. 3G. Touch screen. Back touch screen. discs instead of UMD's. And a sleu of other improvements over the PSP. It looks like it's worth 300. 3DS feels like an over priced DS. an over priced DS with 3d, graphics arguably better than the wii and a future lineup that looks awesome?[QUOTE="Bigboi500"]
[QUOTE="foxhound_fox"]
Then why pay $250 for one if not for the gimmick? Certainly it couldn't be the games, considering the majority of them are already available on the Virtual Console and N64.Bread_or_Decide
The launch is admittedly weak yes, but look at the original DS.

Second thumb stick, not needed for most games besides FPSs, and who really wants to play FPSs on a handheld? Not me. 3G, outdated and slow with a monthly fee. Pass. Touch screen, 3DS has that too. Discs instead of UMD's, I think you mean cartridges, welcome to last gen handhelds. Paying $300 with no confirmation of great third party support this early on? I don't think so.[QUOTE="Bigboi500"]

this-3ds has been previewed by a ton of gaming review sites and this is the first I've heard of eyestrain after 5 min.If there are so many reports, how come the only place I've seen this mentioned is at that site you linked to, and they have nothing to back it up?
