I have the PS2 version in my PS2, these screens and the latest gameplay footage looks better than it. Far superior textures, framerate, mapping and lighting. We haven't even seen it in 3D yet either.

PSP fans are in denial. the 3DS may be as strong as a GC as far as I'm concerned, I wouldn't be surprised if by the end of its life cycle we see games pushing Wii graphics.

The two are barely distinguishable from each other.

Are we talking about MGS: PW vs. MGS on 3DS? If you think that get your eyes checked, if you're talking about 3DS vs. PS2 well this is just a very early demo and later in the systems life the graphics will improve a ton, if launch titles look just as good as a PS2 title then GC level graphics aren't out of the question.

lol most people I know have a psp for 2 reasons. To complete the MGS saga and for monster hunter. Would be silly not to put a MH game on the 3DS though assuming it does well

It looked better than the PS2 version, just lower res. However it's displayed in 3D so even better I guess.

I'm sorry- did the meaning of the word "amazing" change since I left the US? I didn't realize it now meant, "marginally better, at best."

The difference is PS2 ---> GCN graphics. Yes, the 3DS is probably stronger, but not significantly so.

Uh i'm sorry did you just say PS2 graphics are better that the Gamecube's graphics? No, thats just not even a little bit true. For example Resident evil 4 on the Gamecube blows away any graphics the PS2 produced.

Let's not forget that SquareEnix said they are working on a Dragon Quest game for the 3DS too

i thought the MGS demo was more of a tech demo than a game (no thats not a pot shot at MGS :) ). from what i have read (and maybe i completly misunderstud) you cant actually play the game...its more of a interactive cutscene at the mo. you can just control the camera and pause it at the moment (as i understand it). from what im reading it looks like kid icarus is closer to what we can expect from the 3DS at launch (which still looks nice). of course, like with the DS, i expect the visuals to improve as time goes on.

The DS was all over the place. I got it at launch and Super Mario 64 DS was pretty much the best looking DS game until Metroid Prime Hunters. I remember that despite the fact the DS was more powerful than the N64 alot of games didn't look any better than was was on the GBA.

the DS wasnt really more powerful than the N64..the processors were 1/3rd slower than the N64. however it had a low resolution screen so it didnt have to deal with rendering at 640X480. many devs tried to retain 2d sprite work on the platform though. nothing wrong with that of course but it didnt push the DS technically. other devs were just terrible on the platform..the DS does suffer from bad games and shovelware just like any other console. but i think theres a definate route of improvement. mario64 was a good start and then MH came out. infinium the ward was also a great technical achievement (projected light on a DS game...not supposed to be possible) and moon was also a step up. mario kart looked significantly better on the DS compared to kart 64 (which used 2d sprites for the karts rather than 3d models and ran quite roughly). infinite space is also quite a cool customer in the DS visuals department. a few devs have really pushed the DS as hard as itll go and its definately stepped up from mario 64 on launch.
