Seriously, The Xbox 360 has been a step back ever since it came out. It is only an upgrade of the original Xbox or better yet the 360 is an example of how the Xbox should have been. They have done nothing new in terms of hardware except take a step back, how so?It is money, and they've been making profits for the last 3 quarters.
First let's start with the hardware itself, it is a complete failure. The failure rates for Xbox 360 are higher than any other console i have heard of. MS has lost billions of dollars trying to fix what they should have done in the first place, but instead they put untested hardware on the market in a futile attempt to beat it's competitors and look how that has turned out. The Wii is kicking it's ass in all major territories and the PS3 is newly starting to match and even beat it's sales.
Second is, what is new about it? The PS3 has Blu-Ray and The Wii it's motion sensing controller, but what about the 360? Nothing....
I honestly do not get what they are trying to accomplish on a business level, they have hardly made any money and the future looks very bad for them. Sure software sells but what about hardware? What is MS gaining? Nothing..... Only third party developers are gaining anything while MS loses money.
They are a complete failure in Japan and will always remain to be, even though the PS3 is selling bad it has a chance to sell good in Japan with it's upcoming games, but as for the 360 not even an exclusive FF title could save it.
So, what is exactly is their goal? because if it is money, they have certainly failed since day one.

Wrong. Sony are pushing for profits, Nintendo are pushing for profits and Microsoft are pushing for profits.
None of them care about the future of gaming, or holding the industry back, they all only care about $$$.

both sony and nintendo are still pushing the past. Nintendo tends to re-hash EVERYTHING to the point that you fell like they've just copied and pasted, the effect gets even more profound with the last-gen capablilites of the wii, and realy on all their old IPs and first party support.
Sony still have the same freaking controler as the ps1 for gods sake! how is that the future? they are also doing everything to copy microsofts every move, microsoft have achivements. they get trophies. they constantly work to make PSN a clone of live, they implement many more features borrowed from the 360.
so you could argue that microsoft is the market leader, with sony following and the Nindeno doing its own thing (making more mario games mainly)

Apart from Nintendo, every console maker suffers losses when they launch a new product. After some time, when the hardware is cheaper to make and people start buying games, they make profits. This never happened with the Xbox since MS had a bad deal with Nvidia and killed the console, but it is happening with the 360.

What has the PS3 done for gaming? quite frankly, as a PC Gamer first, I find the PS3 to be the most useless of them all.
360 Pushed greater unification and online, and brought PC gaming somewhat to the console market.
Wii ... well I dont have to explain this.
PS3 = Fail.

http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/24/the-xbox-turns-a-profit/
In the last six years, there's been one constant when discussing Microsoft's foray into the strange and seductive world of video game console manufacturing: they had yet to turn a profit on any of it. No more, with today's announcement of Microsoft's second quarter earnings which showed a relatively impressive six-month income of $524 million (compared to a $423m loss during the same period last year) from the the Xbox's Entertainment and Devices Division.
Before you go thinking that was all thanks to the Zune and PC game sales, the company's 10-Q filing states that the EDD's increased revenue was "primarily due to increased Xbox 360 platform sales." During the last six months they say Xbox platform and PC game revenue increased 35% as a result of "increased Xbox 360 console sales, video game sales led by Halo 3, Xbox Live revenues, and Xbox 360 accessory sales." (Sounds like EDD bossman Robbie Bach nailed it).
The 6.1 million Xbox 360 consoles and 4.82 million copies of Halo 3 sold in the first half of fiscal '08 sure helped, but so did "decreased Xbox 360 manufacturing costs" and "a decline in Xbox 360 platform marketing expenses" - it's costing less to build them and less to promote the brand. But they'll need to hold on far longer than one quarter to make their sojourn into the living rooms of America worthwhile; for the rest of fiscal '08 they "expect revenue to increase due to increased sales of Xbox 360 consoles and related games, accessories, and services." Yup, that sounds about right.
Xbox turns profit.

The system with currently the best game line-up if we leave out PC has to prove something to you? Hey everybody look at me I hang out at a game forum yet games have no place in the equation.
How is anyone supposed to take you seriously?

Doesn't matter really, I mean honestly...disc swapping is quite a dreadful example of what capabilities Blu-Ray has; disc swapping is the least of our worries these days and then add the fact that the vast majority of games on the other platforms don't swap discs at all; that "advantage" seems moot so far.
More respectable to bring up would be how the format makes things easier for developers that want to avoid compression in order to fully push their games.
And as far as the "revolutionary" thing goes..I was being slighty sarcastic.
