Well, I for one find both PS's and Xbox's menus pretty annoying. I much prefer Nintendo's "here are the games in your face, click one to play" menus.
So no games or features and a UI that does nothing works for you uh great to hear lmao

@Litchie:
Same.
The Switch still has a lot to prove in that it's not juggling that many features right now, and it has the added benefit of using a touch screen as an input device. There are room for improvements but functionally, I still find it easier to use than the Xbox One UI.

What the **** do I need it to do more than play games? If you're interested in some kind of console community page, they usually have that crap too, but who gives a shit? When a UI becomes cluttered and harder to use becuase of "features" the UI sucks. Nintendo UI is simple and does what it needs to.
@Litchie:
There are additional things like multi-tasking, movies and media, friends lists, online stores and more. With each, there can be a measurement of usability, digestibility, navigation and overall UX design.
As these features ramp up, it becomes more and more difficult to balance them and you end up with a UI like the Xbox One.

Absolutely. Switch, I think, does all those things except movies and media, I guess, which isn't needed for a console at all imo. Ninty keeps it simple, and I love it. I tried fiddle a bit with the 360 menu and thought it was one of the most horrible UIs I've ever seen, and I use a Windows PC every day. If Xbox One's UI is even worse, then.. ugh.
@Litchie:
I don't like the Xbox One UI, personally. I just don't feel it's well designed and I'm left scratching my head any time I have to do something.
It makes use of the pin system which helps to alleviate the buried content and searching.
@ConanTheStoner: I can get on board with the look of console arguments; woodgrain is clearly the look you want when dealing with high-tech gadgetry. That's just a fact.
I tried picking up my og Xbox with only my left hand several years ago and felt a 'pop' in my elbow. Nothing too serious seemed to come from it (although now that I think of it, I do get an occasional weird numbness in that hand from time to time, which is bittersweet because it's kinda scary, but great for a 'Stranger') but it freaked me out and taught me to respect the Xbox's substantial, uh...girth.
lol at this post

Let me guess your old and hate tech. I get it my grandfather is the same way about cellphones and new cars.
I think the Xbox UI would actually be pretty good if the home page were the page that displayed all of my games.

No, I'm young and a PC gamer. Me hating tech would be weird. I do hate unnecessary bullshit, though.
I am surprised you guys actually comment on the Xbox UI. For me, it takes too long to load. My PC does a full startup faster than Xbox UI

You can pin your games you play the most to the home page. Also you can say in your headset mic to tell Cortana to launch your game.
lol absolute joke. the xbox one dashboard is amazing and has been for over a year and the lastest update this month is even better. it's way more organized and easier to switch between apps/games then the PS4 ever will be. Can't comment on the switch as I don't have one
Microsoft aren't rich because their software is the best, they are rich because IBM mistaken them for CPM in the early 80's. Ever since then they had a monopoly on the market. So using 'but they are a software company' as an excuse as to why their interface should be the best is stupid. MS run their servers on Unix, not NT.

MS used Linux for their customized network switch hardware.
MS Basic was the dominant user interface for 8 bit micro-computers.
@jumpaction: you must have purchased a defective Xbox one because I click over to store, scroll down to new games, and I get an endless list.
I've don't get just 7 games

I don't mind the xbox UI. I just wish it was a little more responsive is all.
@WilliamRLBaker:
Maybe there is a way you can configure the menu to show everything? I'm not sure. I only see a handful of games. I have to scroll through them and then up once in order to click the Show All button and display them all. The bottom of this image describes what I am talking about. You get a batch of games and a 'See All' button. In order to get to that 'See All' button, you need to scroll through the other games on display first. It's not very intuitive for me. :/

That is an old version of the U.I. The New version is a lot better and the spring update is going to be near perfect.
@xhawk27:
Yes, this is slightly different than the version of the menu I have too but the way games are listed and the arrangement of games with the 'See All' button remains the same.
You still need to scroll through those six games and then up once to get to the 'See All' button.

Yeah the new spring update is going to make it better to organize your games including having a section for your 360 games.
@xhawk27:
Will the store finally add a Wishlist so that I don't have to search for a game every time I want to view the price of it? I hope they at least consider bringing back the ability to pin store items to the dashboard. I'm not sure why this was removed.
Personally I don't like the Xbox One UI. I don't find it user friendly. They would have to revamp the entire thing in order for me to like it.
One thing the Xbox One UI is the lack of theme. Can change background but what about the whole UI template like sound and/or icons?
Also ad-covered dashboard. Even netflix doesn't dare to have ads.
Ad-blocker please?
@mems_1224: And xbox's is better?? At least Playstation's doesn't have annoying advertisements plastered all over or a store that is horribly organized and laid out. Xbox has had to change theirs multiple times and it is still a mess especially for people like me that dont like the tiled Windows look
The ClosedStation 4 UI is a nightmare. The Store is a sluggish mess and a POS layout for a menu. Too many spinning loading circles when hovering over squares. What's new menu needs a manual refresh much of the time. It's slower out of rest mode to start games than the Xbox One. Inability to pin your favorite games is just stupid. The new guide released with 4.50 is a disaster of epic proportions. And why did Sony TAKE OUT the ability to mark notifications as read? WTF Sony...you guys need to leave the software business.
The only thing good about the ClosedStation 4 UI really isn't even the UI, but the share button on the DS4. The UI for saving your screenshots is much better than the Xbox UI for screenshots.

the only ads on the front page are for deals and new releases. i dont see how that is so offensive. At least MS is willing to take chances and completely overhaul their store. Sony makes a few minor changes a year. There UI is better in that it is super simple and basic with not a lot of functionality or information. Thats hardly something commendable.
@mems_1224: simple but effective in functionality is what any software designer strives for when designing a OS. What else does Playstation UI need? The Store and Games are clearly laid out. Press Up, everything like notifications, friends, party, settings, messages, profile. Everything u possibly need right there. Move left or right for games that can sorted or located with voice. Press down on a game app, all the information about the game like game info, friend activity, and DLC immediately within reach. It's perfect, what else do they possibly need to do?

already stated what they need to do. sucks you can't read. whats wrong with the xbox UI? hit the guide button and you have access to the store, games and apps, home page, your last 5 used apps/games, pins, achievements with tracking, friends, party, messages, notifications, streaming and settings all in a fast and simple to use interface
@mems_1224: the xbox store layout and organization is absolute trash. I don't know how Lems can defend it. Xbox could have advertisements for manure in a barrel at a discount price and lems would still defend the advertisments. Xbox owners I know even think the UI is trash

psn's store layout and organization is also trash. i dont know how cows can defend it. PSN also has advertisements except they put apps on your dashboard you can't uninstall. soooo much better.PS4 owners I know even think the UI is trash.

The worst part, how does Sony NOT default to the game first instead of What's New? LOL. So glad that Xbox defaults to the game at start up, lol. What a game console should do.

Do you mean PS4 Pro? Because my OG PS4's ui is the slowest piece of shit on the planet.
the store, the library, navigating apps.. all of it is slow af and not really organized.
MS is miles ahead on this part.

There are some things I like on my PS Pro UI that isn't on the Xbox UI though. I like that I can do folders on the PS UI, but I like that I can pin on the Xbox UI. I also like the UI for sharing screenshots on the PS Pro by using the share button on the controller, where as the Xbox version seems clunky especially when you have to load up that app for screenshots/dvr. The fact that I can share instantly to FB on the PS Pro is pretty nice.
Other than that, I find the Xbox One UI more useful.
Playstation 4 was more powerful than xbox one and they put out the pro which is more powerful than that.
This is just over like no matter how you slice it playstation wins on power on games on ui on controller everything is just better and i think PS+ is cheaper 50 for a year xbox was 60
just little things little slices here and there of being better and u just lose after all those beatings.
Anyway the ps4 and switch UI is clean clear and looks good.
the XBOX one ui still looks like windows phone with all the boxes and crap everywhere i can't stand to look at its like hogwash of boxes and its just bloated.
FreedomFreak i invite you to this post and do the frowny xbox face and scalebound canceled sig
Shame you haven't seen the Xbox UI since it updated last year. Also, "then scorpio comes out this christmas and suddenly microsoft has the top powerful console ever of all time for infinity".
