Nintendo is dropping like a rock now that people realize it's an updated Atari 2600. Casual game fest with motion-sensing control. Every family bought one and there's no one left who is interested. They want the REAL video games now. EVEN Nintendo admits that poor software has destroyed their system this year, something Nintendo faithful refused to admit last year even though we all told them this.

Sony profits are dropping like a rock because it released such a pricey system. People are just now starting to buy the PS3 but with the horrible start that relied too much on people who would foolishly fork over five hundred dollars for a console and trust in Blu-Ray, it looks doomed to failure. The same quality games are on the Xbox 360, and exclusives are rare these days. PS3 will sell well near its end, but Sony is bleeding money right now.

Microsoft hasa successful formula down pat. Not too expensive, but not too gimmicky or casual. Still offers great graphics and games like PS3, but has a price point closer to traditional console costs. Also, it stays simple, something PS3 has lost track of but Nintendo cashed in on. Yep, if the video game market bottoms out it's because of Nintendo and Sony, not because of Microsoft. They're the only ones doing anything right. Which is strange, because I never would have told you this during the Xbox 1 days.

If I had to sum it up in a nut shell -- Nintendo too short-term in its strategy, Sony far too long-term in its strategy, Microsoft just right.

The__MCP

That atari2600 supports wifi and has internet browser, the 360 doesnt. I hope this gives you some perspective.

Your 3rd paragraph doesnt make any sense. The PS3 costs 299 now, and you would have to pay around that price for a 360 with an actual hard drive and even more if you get a blu ray player and a 360.

Microsoft is the one who doesn't belong in the video game market. Seriously, they don't. They don't even have proper game studios. Let everyone do what they do the best and for MS that ain't games and consoles.

Actually Mircosoft did the same with 3 different SKUs, paying for something that SHOULD be free, Expensive Addons, Hardware problems, Etc. etc.

Yup, there's a scientist in a lab somewhere missing his chimp with down syndrome.I wonder if there is a reward for capturing it?

I sense an xbot. 360 is the only failed system this gen, breaking down all the time, scratching discs and having an online that isn't even worth the money.

I stopped reading here. But anyway imo everyone has made their mistakes this gen.

Sony = $600 console, come on nobody wants to spend that much on a console without any games or extra controllers.

Microsoft = Charging for literally everything, online (acceptable though), virtual clothing, overpriced accessories etc.

Nintendo = Half kicking its core gamers in the balls (because hey we have gotten many Nintendo gems this gen, just not as many as other gens) and catering more to the casual audience instead. This while good for Nintendo now, will next gen turn a lot of fans off their new system meaning they will have to rely on the causal audience buying their system again. Which might prove difficult since everyone is going with motion control now not just Nintendo any more.

being Nickel and dimed is acceptable.

While innovation messes up a market im sorry but what?Just because the wii has made gaming more accesible to the masses DOES NOT mean its a bad machine or messed up the market tbh it even aims itself at a completely diffrent sector from sony and MS.

But lol at saying MS werent being charged for online, severe nickle and diming....wow they truely are pushing the industry forward.

If it wasn't for micosoft there probably wouldn't be the psn as it exists today and nintendo might not have had online gaming implemented at all.

After buying a wireless adapator, XBOX live sub, head phones, harddrive, and the console....I'd be paying like 150+ dollars more than the PS3 is right now. It's kinda hard to deny that microsoft deffinetly nickles and dimes. That's not even including DLC for games.

Bluray is successful. I personally don't think it'll replace DVD for several years, but it will probably co-exist with it for a few more years.

Imo, MS is the one that is hurting the industry the most. Charging for online and nickel-and-diming everyone.

Agreed. Look at the price on the X-box 360 accesories. It's stupid.

You do know Sony charges for clothes on HOME, charges for things for your HOME space... those PSN games you can buy online, do you get to play a demo of every single one? Nope, so you're stuck if you buy a bad one. Ever bought a SONY brand product for your ps3?(that is assuming you own one)... Way too overpriced. MS isn't the only company to nickel and dime ya. I'll give ya though, Sony doesn't nickel and dime ya with wifi, or rechargable controller... they charged for that right out of the gate.

They charged for it right out of the gate? Sooo...why is still equally priced as the 360 then? And why on top of that is there a blu-ray player?

Nah that trophy goes to the good old doom it done it bout 10 years before Microsoft and im being deadly serious where would the Xbox and the 360 be without the PC innovations of the 90s and hell even the Dreamcast so you could say that modern console gaming was made possible by the dreamcast but it wasnt widely adopted until Xbox live came on the scene but still wasnt the true innovator of the idea.

I was referring to mainly console connectivity. While true the dreamcast did have online first, it was a failed console, pretty much assuring that anything sega had brought to the table with it wouldn't be adopted by sony and nintendo. It was microsoft that really pushed it and made it into the standard feature it is now.

How can someone say Nintendo is hurting the industry, it's done more to bring casual gamers into the fold than any other company. In the non-SW real world that is not a bad thing.

What's hurting the industry is companies setting the price point for almost all new games at $59.99. Some games are worth that, but alot are not, especially with more and more SP campaigns turning out to only last a few hours.
