Do you guys know when or have any information on Sony's and Nintendos next handhelds?

It was there first handheld and they were going against Nintendo what did you think was going to happen?
Hulkness
I didn't think they'd get outsold by more than twice as much and no-one would buy their games. Especially after the PS2 did so well
DSLites are still selling like hotcakes, moreso than the Wii console itself, and the PSP has finally received some sales momentum after a long drought in games.
Until PSP and DS Sales are in a decline, don't look forward to another handheld anytime soon. They are turning a profit to both Sony and Nintendo : even a mere announcement of a new handheld, for either companies, would hurt the sales of the current-gen handhelds.
I'll LMAO if Sony releases another handheld after they got owned so badlythe_h_bomb
The got owned? LOL I'm not even going to start. Sony Didn't get owned. Nintendo is facing the most competition in years...Please do some research before speaking. You're just ruining the reps of you sheep.

2nd Handheld I think there first wasn't really a Handheld it was something like Nintendo's Pokemon Pikachu things were they only played one game or atleast looked like it played one game it was called the Pocketstation but still this was there first Big Handheld.I'll LMAO if Sony releases another handheld after they got owned so badlythe_h_bomb
Err...they're doing pretty well actually. Maybe not market share (around 30% I believe) but profits wise it's quite good, would be stupid to pull out. PSP appeals to the hardcore gamer, like the PS3. DS and Wii are targetting a more casual crowd.

Let's see what MS's handheld is going to be like. It'll probably explode in your hands while your playing it. They'll probably make another halo game and hype it like the 2nd coming of Jesus and then people will play it till it kills all the kids in America. It'll be like a freaking terrorist plan!

I was complementing the PSP for doing as well as it did for there first handheld against Nintendo but you can go all fanboy on me anyway.
I'll LMAO if Sony releases another handheld after they got owned so badlythe_h_bombhaha, joke, right? The PSP has done really well considering the odds of going up against nintendo, the king of handhelds since the 80's. You sound like godofgta3, only rooting for the DS.

well, by any normal standards, the psp did pretty well. But considering the breakout success of the ds (close to 60 million units sold worldwide, according to wikipedia), the psp did get owned
The PSP has accomplished what no other handheld has ever done against Nintendo : actually turn out a profit from the handheld gaming industry with the bonus of stealing part of Nintendo's fanbase derived from the Gameboy line of products.Brainhunter
Plus sony bothered to put a disc based format for games. Ok umd may have failed, but you cant fault the storage capacity (1.8gb) Thats very impressive for a handheld. The psp in general is impressive too. Its alot more powerful than the Dreamcast (which was another home console rival to the ps2) The ds is comparable to the N64 in specs.
The only way nintendo owned sony is with the games. Nintendo know consoles are for people that want to play games 1st and foremost! I still think the psp is great though.

They had a pretty big mouth. According to their own words, they were going to kick Nintendo out of the freakin' market. They hyped big and failed to deliver. That's what decides ownage. Sony brought it upon themselves.

Yeah, they stole 25+ % of the market from Nintendo. Sony is considering that a success.

Isn't the DS the most successful handheld ever, despite having the PSP as competition on the market? What does that say about the PSP? Furthermore, don't you remember Sony's haughty talk of how the PSP will rock the handheld gaming world because it carries the PlayStation brand and that that will be the end of Nintendo's reign in that market? It appears that you have failed to do your research, good sir. Just like with the Wii, people expected the DS to fail against the PlayStation brand, and damn, were they wrong.
the psp is doing great how did sony fail...they took part of a profatable market there is no way they have failed...especially when the thing is still sellings huge amountsstereointegrity
Sony failed by not meeting the requirements they themselves set.
it might be a while before we see another nintendo handheld
they'll have some prototypes in development that they can release if another handheld enters the market .. like from M$, Apple or another one from Sony
they'll adjust the specs accordingly depending on when it'll release
i reckon it'll be similar to the DS, maybe just one screen, but it being a touchscreen
they'll prob add more features like music, vids, internet browsing etc
just an evolution, not a total rethink like with the DS

Either way, it's just going to be another cheap 2D gaming system. Exceopt this time you could probably lick a lickscreen with your tongue and it's probably odour sensitve. Seriously tell nintendo to join us in the 21st century and stop ripping people off with mini games!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I cant wait for sony's next handheld to go down in flames and get owend so badly like the 1st one

Right..... let's see how MS does against Nintendo if they ever decide to make a handheld.

The PS1 was their first console and they were going up against a dominant Nintendo with that too.I wouldn't say it didn't get owned that badly, since it still doing a great job, and is doing better then any handheld that went against Nintendo's handhelds.

Trust me, even if they don't want to release it for a long time Nintendo has one waiting in their vault. They will release it in response to Sony or Microsoft's ( who knows, it might happen) new handheld. As of right now buisness is too good to release a new one yet until there is reasonable competition.

Ok, not to say that it hasn't been getting some pretty decent sales, but it was hyped by a lot of people to kill and take the handheld gaming market away from Nintendo just like the PS2 or even the PS did. It failed horribly in that account.Whatever. I not saying it didn't get owned at all, but it still doing a good job in sales, and it a great handheld.

hardware sales wise I'd agree to an extent. European and American sales have improved a lot and the system is keeping pace with the DS in Japan now that the DS marketshare has surpassed the PS2.
But you can't ignore the software situation. Apart from the odd exception nothing sells in Japan. The sales in the west aren't much better. Last months NPS had Wuipeout Pulse at 10k copies. PSP owners are mostly pirates or people who don't use it for gaming

You have a point, but I still think it haven't been owned to badly, through didn't many people hype it a lot at it launch, that it will kill the DS?

A lot of people did unfortunately, Especially Sony. People like to complain about Sony's arrogance but the PSP is where they really started to cross the line
Heck I even expected the PSP to be much better than the DS after the PS1 completely owned the console market and the launch software was so awesome. Unfortunatlely it just wasn't to be. It's a shame because if they got the slim out more quickly and people bought PSP games it could have been a pretty good handheld
The psp is finally starting to get good, and is (on an on-off-pattern) surpassing the DS is sales.
Sure the psp started out absolutely TERRIBLE but now its definitely worth it to pick one up. ESPECIALLY for RPGs
Of course its library will never match the DS's but hey, its Nintendo+Handheld market=love for like 15 friggen years.
To answer the topic title, Like the Gameboy *probably* there won't be a new handheld for another year or two. Sony's making another handheld based on the fact that they were asking for new designs for a psp2.

Alright I will agree that the DS owned it badly then because of that, but the PSP is still a great system and is not far from being as good as the DS. Actually it been getting better recently.

It's been doing fantastically well lately games wise but that's all for naught when it has jack squat scheduled to come out after that.
It's an OK handheld and fairly successful but it's very overrated IMO. I know quality is subjective but I own an ipod and i'm getting a PS3 once the MGS4 pack hits so there's only a handful of exclusive games that are of any interest to me
I'll LMAO if Sony releases another handheld after they got owned so badlythe_h_bomb
woah...how did they get owned? they managed to take away a slice of market share from nintendo, who has dominated the handheld industry since it was born.
please stop ruining the mostly unmarked name of sheep.

Sony and many people thought the PSP was going to kill the DS at first, but they are wrong. But yes you are right, they did managed to take a slice of market share from Nintendo.

I think that's debateable. The DS is the most successful Nintendo handheld in history so it's not as if they've lost any marketshare. If anything they've gained it. Likewise PSP owners don't buy games.
It'd be more accurate to say that the PSP has carved out its own little niche of hardcore fans

I sure Nintendo did gained it back through the DS, but Sony still got a little of the market share.

Yeah, I remember that! Kaz Hirai saying that they were gonna bring hand-held gaming out of "...the ghetto" or something like that. I lol'd...
The thing fanboys forget. Sony dint come in the handheld war to defeat Nintendo, they came in to make a profit and steal a piece of the share. Sony and everyone knew Nintendo wouldn't go down easily if at all. It accomplished what it was designed to do , to make a profit and make a name in the handheld war. Lets be honest, just like Microsoft made the Xbox for the console war. Except Microsoft plan is a more of a long-run plan (hence no profit with the first)...Khalas101
The way Sony bragged before the DS stomped the PSP into the dirt, one would think differently.
