@2Chalupas: "I do think no showing at E3 shows a lack of confidence."
This is a good theory. I also think they are threatened by the power boost PS4 and X1.5. Originally, wasn't the rumor of NX being just barely more powerful than PS4?
Something like that.
They saw reports about the PS4k and..
Judging by the comments on how disappointed people are with Nintendo holding back any info about the NX, shows that people still do really care what Nintendo is up to. Sony already blew their load and who the heck knows what MS are planning, so all eyes are on Nintendo. I hope this move doesn't change what Sony and MS were planning. With PSVR just around the corner, the NeO should come sooner than later. I mean is Sony going to make people wait to get the best experience with PSVR by delaying NeO too because Nintendo are holding back NX info. At this point, no one really knows far along the NX is in development but now Nintendo could take this chance to be more powerful than the NeO. Disappointing there won't be NX news at E3 at it seems, but I'll still wait for E3.
I realllllllllyyyy want ninty to make a come back with the NX. For all the crap the original wii got, I had a really good library with it and I spent a lot of time enjoying a mix of first and thrid party games(it really turned itself around). I am ok with writing the Wii U off as wii 2.5(this is really all it was), but I hope to God the NX can put ninty back on track.
D.O.A. Who is making these poor decisions at Nintendo? Not revealing a console at E3 with a March release? Fuckin' LOL.
I wonder if the NEO struck a nerve?
Freaking joke company now. Who the hell will buy this toy after the Wii U & Zelda fiasco. I am so glad I spent my money on a PSVR pre-order.
Does anyone really trust these morons anymore. Cant wait. I see Nintendo as a future 3rd party publisher.
Loved my wii u but I will NEVER risk wasting my money on another one of their systems. I cant wait to see the NX and how big of a failure it is going to be. If they have not created a proper network (which the have not) it will be an instant failure.
Piece of shit.
So does this March confirm Polaris as the architecture behind the GPU/APU (assuming they need time to produce good yielding processors)?
Also what games do Nintendo have? I mean, is E3 only Zelda and Paper Mario? What are they going to do the rest of the year? The whole last year have had bad games and a drought of the normal Nintendo quality, they are going to continue it for another 10 months? I'm not a business expert, but in my opinion this is not smart, they'd better wow everyone big-time with the NX reveal..
Who the hell launches a brand new console globally just a couple months after the Holiday season?
The NX is not going to sell well if its released in March after everyone already spent $$$ during the holidays.
Nintendo is seriously one of the most insane companies I've ever known.
March launches are not unprecedented, and have traditionally done very well for Nintendo. The problem is not that Nintendo are launching the NX in March, the problem is that that leaves them with absolutely nothing for the rest of the year, especially now that Zelda is delayed too.
Its Clear there giving up on the WiiU and switching focus over entirely to the NX compared to the support sony showed the Vita albiet that was a much bigger failure I'd say they have given it plenty of first part support so far don't you think and there still going to let it go out with a bang with the new Zelda still being released on it.

They specifically partnered with an external networks communications company to ensure that they do network and online right with the NX.

If NX was launching this year, this final year wouldn't have been bad- Paper Mario, Tokyo Mirage Sessions, Star Fox, Pokken, Twilight Princess HD, and I assume Zelda as well in that case. It's not bad at all. It's only because of this delay for the NX that we are left with the horrifying prospect of an entire year without the Wii U getting a major launch. This has literally never happened before. They're killing their own momentum.

If they get the games support from indies and third party, then everything else would take of itself. I just wish they would start hyping the machine at E3 to put Sony and MS on their heels. A awesome video montage that says the Big N is back in a huge way.

You know, if people don't trust Nintendo now, I highly doubt they'll be trusted as a third party.

I agree. Unfortunately, for now, that seems to be a pipedream.
What Nintendo are doing, and what they intend to do with the NX, is anybody's guess- I just hope they have given this some thought. This is going to be their last throw of the dice.
@charizard1605: Well at least that sounds good. Dont get me wrong. I want Nintendo to survive. I have been playing games longer than most on this site. I grew up playing Atari 2600 and remember when I got the original NES for Christmas (still have it complete with zapper and Rob the robot). Hell. I just hooked it up about 6 months ago to let my kids try it out and ended up trying to get somewhere in festers quest.

I am actually afraid of that possibility.
That would make the most disappointing E3 EVER! Everybody scared as shit to show anything for fear of what the next man will do.

I was thinking what if Nintendo was bluffing and steal the E3 show but then again, they haven't stolen the E3 show for awhile now especially when they changed their E3 format to Nintendo Direct. Who the heck knows what MS are working on, so Sony really has the chance to steal the show by revealing the NeO but the timing on when they're going to release it will be important especially for those wanting the PSVR which is coming sooner than later, unless they delay it. We'll see.
Makes sense business wise to me. Sony has the media momentum with the VR and ps4k stuff so rather than be overshadowed Nintendo is separating themselves.
@iandizion713:
5 in a row is a little excessive.
Yeah, but thats how rich Nintendo really is. I think people misunderstand just how much money they have.
@charizard1605- Soooooooo TGS grand unveiling, mass marketing starting January, with a 2hr direct mixes in there somewhere? Please baby Jesus, let this be good.
Also, does not announcing Ninty's silence mean everyone else has to be silent about the games that are being made for NX? Could 3rd parties still announce these games as definitive NX releases?
D.O.A. Who is making these poor decisions at Nintendo? Not revealing a console at E3 with a March release? Fuckin' LOL.

Nintendo:
"But we have a playable demo for a game we revealed before the launch of our current console that we have delayed twice...
and it won't release until we release it for our new console after we delay it again to the year 2017..."
@iandizion713:
MSoft has more but I wouldn't be surprised if they drop out if the next Xbox fails.
Yeah, but your talking Microsoft, not Xbox.
This is getting fvcking ridiculous right now!
WTF! At this point Nintendo DIRELY NEEDS to generate the living hype out of the NX!
Like Mirko said, what is their fear?!
I remember 26 years ago, in a Popular Science section called "What's New" the article showed a small picture of what the Super Famicom would look like, and seeing those shoulder buttons got me jelly because I had the Genesis at the time and that controller only had 3 face buttons. Seeing the 4 colorful face buttons and the additional 2 shoulder buttons, how sleek the Super Famicom looked, got me jelly and hyper excited because the Super Famicom looked so advanced at the time.
That's the feeling I want again!
@PSP107: Microsoft has a lot of money, not Xbox. Nintendos money bout all comes from and goes to its consoles and games.
I don't understand how Ninty can be so great when it comes to handhelds, but be so damn inept when it comes to home consoles.
I have to wonder how can I trust them with how quick they are abandoning the Wii-U. I also wonder how I can trust them to get 3rd party support (which is probably the most important thing as single console owner) when they have shown a complete inability to get such support two gens in a row now.
Then there is the question of the actual quality their 1st party hardware on a home console. If I were to have gotten a Wii-U, I would have been interested in MAYBE 5 games if that in IT'S ENTIRE LIFE CYCLE! That is disgustingly sad.
I really have no idea what is wrong with Ninty and I worry they will not get their shit together.
@LostProphetFLCL: How are they abandoning the Wii U when they just extended its production to 2018? Id wait till after e3 to worry about Wii U being abandoned. Also, never trust third party. And i mean NEVER.
Third party abandons its fanbase all the time with no concern about dedication. Just think of how many times games have jumped platforms in the name of the mighty dollar. Think how many gave our favorite franchises to no name studios to finish. Heck, Madden who has a contract with the NFL since they "so called" can provide best service to NFL fans abandoned millions of Nintendo gamers in the name of the mighty dollar. Millions!

The announcement of the NX at E3 would overshadow everything.
LMAO at all of you....bu buh but they are releasing in March.... people. Welcome to the present and near future.
Are they selling to the great unwashed masses at launch? No they are selling to core enthusiasts.
How many physical units will they have at launch? probably 2-5 million units.
How are they going to sell them? Mostly through internet preorders, up to months in-advance. With a small portion for bricks and mortar retail so they can show pictures of people fighting to get one.
If they can't find 2-5 million enthusiasts to get on the hype train, then that will be because the product failed to capture the imagination of the enthusiasts.
They could pick literally any day of the year to officially sell it and it doesn't matter. What matters is the product and strategy itself. If that is a winner, then they will sell out on preorders and the first few days of launch. We aren't in the retail waste land of the 80s and 90s, or even 2005/06.
If they are supply constrained it will take 6+ months to clear... just in time for holidays 2017.
And if they aren't supply constrained, that will be because the product and strategy is flawed.
How many PS4s sold through from black Friday through Christmas in 2013 to people who weren't going to buy it any other day? Close to none, because they were all sold through pre-orders and Sony could barely provide any resupply... all of which was immediately snapped up.
The issue is NOT launch date. Indeed, telling you a year in-advance allows the enthusiast who is also poor plenty of time to come up with $300+ to slap down the moment pre-orders can be taken. Yep, you can even use your 2016 Christmas money to place that pre-order.

I was smoking a bowl and listening to reggae and this fit perfectly!
I thought for sure NX will come out this year. I was planning on getting E3 week off of work but I guess now I'm not. I guess Nintendo will do a full reveal on NX on November or December. Looks like my Wii U is dead now that Zelda has been delayed. I will most likely get a NX and Zelda NX at launch. Nintendo better not bust a Twilight Princess and actually improve the graphics on the NX version this time around.
Looks like they got a wind of what Sony was doing and it scared them away from E3 and launching this year lol.
well my gast is flabbered at the no E3 show. i know that E3 has been a more secondary thing for them for a few years now (and really...the direct approach is far more up to date)....but c'mon....its E3.
the launch date is a little surprising but not the end of the world. its a good way to get the enthusiasts sorted first, iron any show stopper bugs out and get production and supply into shape for later in the year.
what is a bit more of a kick in the nuts though is zelda. they must be planning the mother of all games with its development schedule. what is this now..year 4? maybe they took a look at something like witcher 3 or dark souls and said: "hold on....hold on a sec....someones getting notions....time to remind everyone who wears the pants here". or maybe they saw my suggestion on trying to merge ideas from elder scrolls with ideas from zelda and, after first looking up what elder scrolls is on google and scratching their heads, they said "k".
i knew it was coming to the NX of course but i thought it may have been after the wiiu build launch and before the NX released. is the wiiu the first nintendo console without a zelda to call its own?
