Sony is very sad that their lover has left them for Nintendo. Casual gamers supported Sony hardcore last two gens. But then again, they supported Nintendo the previous gens. iI believe however, that Nintendo tar]gets all gamers.. just doesn't focus mainly on the elitists who label themselves in the gaming community. What makes you think Nintendo doesn't care about hardcore gamers?Nintendo doesn't care about hardcore gamers. They will give the Nintendo fans their Mario, Zelda, Metroid and whatever, but other than that they found a new lover - casuals.

Sony isn't sad at all. Once they said "$599" they knew the casuals would leave. They dont care (Sony cares more about how many Blu-ray players are in homes). Plus, Nintendo has a different set of casual gamers - non-gamers. Nintendo doesn't care about hardcore gamers because they have shown this many times. First off they make the Wii super weak, they aren't coming out with many "core" titles (like they did with the GameCube), and then the fact is their marketing is clearly aimed at non-gamers. They don't care about hardcore gamers because they do not need to. They will give the Nintendo fans their Zelda, Mario, and all that jazz but that's it.

LOL anytime a developer says we wanted our game to be easy to get into pick up and play then that means the game is a crappy noob game and i shouldnt waste my time.

There were a lot of hardcore games for the GameCube, which was their focus - games such as Eternal Darkness, Ikaruga, Resident Evil 4, Tales of Symphonia, Pikmin, Viewtiful Joe, etc. etc. Not all these were made by Nintendo but Nintendo made sure these games were known and the focus of the system. Mad World and The Conduit together didn't even sell half a million units and if you add in No More Hereos still not even 1 million. Why? Because the Wii focuses on 2 demographics - non-gamers/casuals and Nintendo fans. Even then Nintendo focuses more on the non-gamers than Nintendo fans (Q4 2008 proved this).

Pretty sure the Wii has had RE4, a Tales game, Pikmin(with 3 being made now) and amazingly can play that remake of Ikaruga, can play Eternal Darkness. If Sony cared they wouldn't have made the PS3 $599.
Sony's goal was to get the CELL and Blu-ray into many homes. Gaming is secondary. They extended no effort to keep its exclusives, showing that they barely even cared, as long as there are Blu-ray players in homes.

I played and beat RE4, I played partly through 5.. 4 was a much better game overall. Never cared or played any of the tales games so I don't know. I've played with Wii FIt, lots of fun. I've played Wii Sports, fun, Wii Sports Resort, really fun, .. Wii Music.. never did get to play. What other "Wii" games are there? And that Seal of Quality used to mean something? IT meant the same as it does today, that the software enclosed will play on the console it was designed for and has been licesned to play on said system through Nintendo. Thats what it has always meant, If you think it used to mean that the game was good, guess again. The Ghostbusters game on the NES got that seal, it was trash. There are lots of NES games that are trash that has that seal proudly on the cart. So, what does it mean again? While all the points you bring up do show Sonys mistakes this gen, I still believe they care a great deal over all the money they have lost. Overall this gen has shown that Sony learned all the wrong lessons from last gen. When the PS2 came out it was extreemly pricy, had a new medium and very few good games at launch but people still bought it anyway so this gen they figured that spending over half a grand for a system would be piece of cake for all of their supporters who Sony did not think would turn thier backs on them.ekalbtwin
Well the difference is that the PS2 was $299 and DVD was already taking off, not many people seem to care about Blu-ray right now. Blu-ray had no history before the PS3 (was PS3 the first BR player? I think so). By the time the PS2 came out, movies such as Titanic, The Matrix and Star Wars Episode I were already on DVD or near release. So even before the PS2 came out it already had all the killer apps it needed.
The PS2 did start weak - but gained steamed very fast. By the end of 2001 it had - Grand Theft Auto III (exclusive for a long time), Final Fantasy X, Metal Gear Solid 2, Devil May Cry, Jak and Daxter, Half-Life, Twisted Metal Black and Gran Turismo 3. In addition to these killer apps it had niche titles such as ICO, Ring of Red,Stretch Panic, Red Faction, Dark Cloud, Silent Hill 2, "next-gen" Tony Hawk, Madden and FIFA.
This was all by the end of 2001. Couple this with the price cut in early 2002 (to $199) and it's no wonder why the PS2 sold a gajillion dillion consoles.
On the other hand, the PS3 had almost nothing by the end of 2007. A few average games, but nothing to stand out. GTAIV, FFXIII (which still isn't even out) and DMC4 went to the 360 (and came out in 2008 ), while Gran Turismo 5, Twisted Metal 6 haven't even came out. MGS4 was the PS3's savior for a while, but you need more than 1 game to save a system - look at the PS2, and see what I mean. The PS3 is $399 (was $599) and doesn't even have half the great games the PS2 had. This is why the PS3 failed and Sony knew this would happen.
Sony knew the PS3 was not going to sell as well as the PS2 so they banked on Bluray, because the PS2 made DVD become such a huge hit. Of course, as I said, Blu-ray didn't help much because there isn't a demand for Blu-ray, at least not yet. The CELL also made the PS3 super expensive, another way for Sony to shove new technology down our throats.
Hopefully Sony has learned and when the PS4 comes out Sony can regain some former glory..... hopefully.
(note: you can see release dates for games here)

As I said, Nintendo will release its franchises (as usual, it's getting quite annoying) for their system but will concentrate mostly on Wii Fit, Wii Music, Wii Crap, etc. etc. VC takes no effort and it brings in profits which is why they do it (same reason why they have so much shovelware on the Wii - cheap to make, tons of profit). Unless it's a sure seller franchise like Smash Brothers or Mario, Nintendo wants nothing to do with it (now, but back in the good days Nintendo cared. The seal of quality used to mean something).
So, what does it mean again?4 is a classic, 5 sucked, but the thing is all the Wii can muster is a 3 year old port of a GameCube game? The GameCube got the new installment for the franchise (which was exclusive for a year). I think that helps summarize the Wii pretty well "Just slap some waggle to a few games and sell it and make tons of $$$. Why put effort into the games?"
Wii Sports, Wii Fit, Wii Sports Resort are fun (at least for a couple hours IMO), but not really "gamer" games. The Seal of Quality isn't even on the Wii, it's just called "The Seal" now or something to that effect and you can tell. I have never seen so much bad shovelware on a console before. The PS2 had a lot but it was mostly on the backburner and the PS2 had hundreds of great games, the Wii on the other hand... Carnival Games, Chicken Shoot, Game Party, Deca Sports.... these games sell a gajillion on the Wii.
And the seal didn't stop every bad game, but it did help out a lot and saved the industry from another crash. Nintendo is doing the same thing Atari did in the 80's - let any crap game on the system.
Nintendo used to mean something, Nintendo once was a company you could count on. But in the last 6-7 years they changed for the worst. Goodbye, Nintendo (1889-2003), you will be missed.

First of all, the Game Cube sucked. Second of all the best console always has the most shovleware. Third of all doesn't shovleware stick out like a soar thumb? If you need help picking games you can use review sites like the one you are on. You just need to remember not 9 =/= FAIL.

GameCube did not suck. Second of all the most popular console always has the most shovelware. Third of all doesn't WII shovelware stick out like a soar thumb? Seriously, Chicken Shoot, Carnival Games, Game Party... all bigger hits than No More Heroes, Mad World and The Conduit.

I have to disagree with your diagnosis there. Gamecube was a great console but lost much of its third party support in the late years. Games like Skies of Arcadia, Phantasy Star Online, Resident Evil 4, etc all were on sale for the Gamecube exclusively. Wii is currently the most popular console in the terms of sale not in the terms of quality of the games it has for sale. Whenever I go to a Gamestop or a Wal-Mart, I always see tons of shovelware games on shelf for waiting to be sold... You are telling me to look for good, quality games available on the Wii? I did some looking, I wasn't able to find any games that would cater me. So, Mr. Smart Guy, try again and do not try to respond in a fashion that is so rude. There is no such thing as a hardcore gamer! What is so hard to understand about that? A gamer is a gamer. It is possible to like shooters AND Mario games, yes I know shocking for you "hardcore" gamers. There is no such thing as a hardcore game either. What you think is "hardcore" could be "casual" to someone else. It doesn't matter if your "hardcore" or not,if you like the classic franchises that built gaming as we know it,buy a Wii.
So here's a bit of my background, I game. I've gamed for my entire life ever since my aunt gave me my first Nintendo 64. I remember playing Mario 64, Starfox 64 as the few among my first games on my N64. I've however distanced myself from ever buying Nintendo hardware this gen. I primarily play FPS, RPG, strategy and action games. I have a Xbox 360, a PC and a PSP. I used to own a PS3 but later sold it because its games were really lacking (bought it in 2007) but its game library is better now though. I have games on my Xbox 360 like Halo 3, Grand Theft Auto 4, CoD4:MW, Mass Effect and some more. For my PC, I have many different kinds of strategy games like the entire Total War series excluding Shogun:TW, Star Wars: Empire at War, LotR: Battle for the Middle Earth 2 and many more, and FPS like the original Halo... I'm more of a strategy game fan on my PC, not much for anything else than that! Why would I get a Wii? What is the point of owning one? Would it serve to entertain me for hours on end? Is its game library interesting and have a lot of good choices to pick? Is Wii graphics at least nice to the eyes? Currently, I cannot think of a reason to buy a Wii other than to play Zelda: Twilight Princess which is still priced fifty dollars after 3 years of release. I know that SSB: Brawl is fun but it's not kind of a game that I'd shell out fifty dollars for. It seems like Nintendo have managed to dig themselves into the same hole they were in during Gamecube era, few good first party game releases with a lot of mediocre third party games. Am I wrong? PhilhelleneYou aren't hardcore; you just like to play games. There are plenty of good games on the Wii, but they just may not be your styIe. Different strokes for different folks. If you don't like what the Wii has to offer, I suggest you don't get one.
