THE NINTENDO DIRECT FOR E3 2013
WHEN?
The E3 Nintendo Direct will be broadcast on June 11, 2013 at 7am PT/9am CT/10am ET. To know what that is in your local timezone, please check this link.
WHAT IS IT ABOUT?
The E3 Nintendo Direct is a global Nintendo Direct broadcast- there will be three video feeds broadcast simultaneously, one for North America, one for Europe, and one for Japan. In keeping with the Nintendo Direct format since late 2012, all three broadcasts will have the same announcements, but with local languages and release dates.
The E3 Nintendo Direct is, very specifically, a Wii U focused event. Nintendo has very explicitly stated that the E3 Nintendo Direct is about Wii U games only. While the odd 3DS announcement may not be out of the question, the broadcast will almost certainly focus exclusively on upcoming Wii U games, and new Wii U announcements. Keeping in mind just how much Nintendo has focused on 3DS since January 2013, and that there will be separate events focused on 3DS at E3, this should hopefully placate 3DS owners.
WHERE DO I WATCH IT?
Nintendo Directs are always broadcast via the official Nintendo Direct page, and then uploaded to Nintendo's Youtube channel as well.

WHAT CAN WE EXPECT FROM THIS NINTENDO DIRECT?
Nintendo Directs are huge- the stature of the announcements that are made over them has grown steadily, until now, Nintendo announces all its major games via this format. Considering this specific Direct is an E3 Direct, the announcements here can be expected to be even bigger.
Also consider that this is Nintendo's last chance to justify the Wii U, and to try and course correct it before it gets lost in the next gen battle. Nintendo will probably go all out in this Direct. Below are my speculations of what you can expect from this Nintendo Direct:
- Wii U price drop and/or new SKUs with more memory
- Release dates for all currently known Wii U games. This includes, but is not limited to, Pikmin 3, Wonderful 101, The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker Reborn, Yoshi Yarn, Shin Megami Tensei x Fire Emblem, Wii Fit U, Wii Party U and Project X.
- A look at upcoming third party multiplats, including the confirmation of some speculated ones. These include Disney Infinity, Watch Dogs, Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Conviction, Deus Ex Human Revolution, and Batman: Arkham Origins. Call of Duty: Ghosts is widely expected to be confirmed for the Wii U as well. Nintendo might announce a Wii U version of Grand Theft Auto V as well. Based on the leaked Miiverse list, a Metal Gear Solid game for the Wii U is widely expected as well.
- First look at new first party games: expect an in depth look at the new 3D Mario, the new Mario Kart, the new Legend of Zelda, and the new Super Smash Bros. as well. There might be more franchise announcements for Wii U, such as Kirby and Donkey Kong. Nintendo might choose to revive some dormant fan favorite IPs like F-Zero and Metroid Prime.
- NEW IPs: Look forward to Project X, Monolith Soft's upcoming Wii U RPG which looks to be massively persistently online. Retro's new game is also heavily rumored to be a new IP catered to western tastes- it might be a Destiny like massively online persisten FPS, it might be something else.
- Exclusive Third Party Collaborations: Look forward to an in depth look at Bayonetta 2, along with maybe the release date, as well as the first real look at Sonic: Lost World. Nintendo might announce a western release date for Dragon Quest X as well. A sequel to cult hit ZombiU has been rumored for a while. There might be something else, something new entirely as well.
- Miscellaneous features and improvements, such as stability firmware updates, new features like folders, new apps and maybe improvements to the TVii service. Nintendo will use this Direct to try and make the Wii U look as appealing as possible, so everything is fair game. They might announce new colors, they might announce the sale of individual Wii U Pad controllers, it could be anything.
SEE YOU AT E3!
