Personally this is my favorite qoute.

All I can say about being "important to the world." Typical PR stuff.

They made the Wii U because their are somethings that their first party studios wanted to do but technically couldn't do on the Wii. So Nintendo created the Wii U.

Also, they and their fans want third-party support.

Makes sense that they don't even consider being comparable with Xbox.

Read the full interview instead, you are just posting tidbits from it.

"Apple's iPads, and other tablets, are expensive, though ? and the Wii U offers an alternative."

The context behind that quote is affordability, as in, it's important to offer an alternative.

That is why they keep going out of their way to mention the graphics will not be much of a jump when the new consoles release. Nintendo knows they have a weak system and they like to use these gimmicks and twist (like not releasing system specs) to hide the fact they are too cheap to give gamers high end gameplay. They also know the average Nintendo fan will buy Mario for the 40th time.

Oh Nintendo, only you can spin bad news like this and make it look good :]

Remember how Nintendo tried to claim that Wii U was actually a powerful next gen console that will have lots of long-term 3rd party support? Looks like all that went down the gutter. As usual, Nintendo's only competing with their own console and are completely oblivious to the HD Twins. That's Nintendos philosophy: always one step behind, but always with a reason. With the Wii the "reason" was motion controls, this time the reason is an ipad-controller. Always finding excuses to be last place in performance, user experience, and quality. Of course, it will always be first place in sales, 'cause there are plenty of people out there who are thrilled by 20-year-old IP's and pathetic hardware.

I don't mean any harm, and I don't mean to offend any Nintendo gamers. I just really don't like Nintendo.

And sony and microsoft were never after Nintendo. Really. However Nintendo does feel threatened by the presence of apple and they are trying to stray away from similar products of apple's. But there is only so much Nintendo can do afterawhile, they aren't going to last forever solely as an ip maker.

You love Nintendo way too much, so much that you seem to love trying to justify everything they do. You guys defend your preferred company no matter what they do, this is why they can get away with ripping off customers. People supported XBL Ads and the XBL price tag to justify their purchase, it's pathetic really. I don't get butthurt from company sales because they don't affect me, I do find it unfortunate how a company like this is getting so much love from the industry, but they're not doing anything monumental. It's sad.

64 was stronger than PS1 but used cartridges and was hard to develop for. GC and SNES were actually weaker than PS2 and Genesis in raw processing terms but games on them looked much better anyway (thanks to shaders on GameCube and more colors and "Mode 7" on SNES).

@nameless12345 Well I was going by how people always say that GC was more powerful than GC. And I'll give you cartridges held N64 back but the hardware itself was a tad better than PS1 wasn't it. Snes vs Genesis, not sure on that one.

I don't mind that their not so graphic heavy but they need to meet other qualification specs such as the following things.

ex.)

1.) Hard Drive

(Considering they brag so much about Wii U having digital games at launch. 8GB Flash Memory isn't going to cut it anymore.)

2.) Performance

(If Nintendo can't meet the visual performance then raise the frames per second and do more optimization to make the games run smoother.)

3.) Online

(It's important that Nintendo have an online network to be competitive with other networks like PSN, XBL, Steam, GOG, Impulse, Google Chrome Store, iOS, Android, etc.)

4.) Feature Options

(I'd like more options for how I play my games such as access to mods, more controllers and other accessories.)

etc.

That would be a great start.

The sad part is you believe this about the GCN and PS2. The GCN had a faster CPU, faster GPU.. some other blah blah blah stuff I can't remember.

I've seen the specs of both and while GC was indeed a newer design and could produce better graphics, the PS2 had more raw FLOPS performance.

PS2's CPU was, in some ways, more capable than a Pentium 3 PC CPU (also found in Xbox).

GC and Xbox had fairly new GPU tech at the time and featured pixel-shaders whereas the PS2 was different and had a decently capable but backwards GPU but also had the so-called "vector unit" co-processor to help with the graphics and physics. Those vector units were largly unxeplored by devs but a few managed to get impressive things out of them (for example the bloom and fur shading in Shadow of Colossus). It could also do an impressive number of polygons (supposedly up to 60 million polygons) but that's likely just a theoretical number.

You can learn more how these vector units work here (much like the "texture environment" in GC and the programmable pixel-shaders in Xbox but more software rendering based):

Is it really that suprising, it's the same **** they pulled initially with the Wii, to build hype and attention. It's fine Nintendo wanting to innovate and yes they do it well, but when you don't have strong enough software, what's the point? All they do is rehash the same franchise while supporting lame tacked on kiddy games.

MS will probably try to dominate the hardware department next gen, I imagine Sony will be closer to the Wii U than the next Xbox since financially they're not in a position to engage in a hardware arms-race with MS, but both Nintendo and Sony should be secure with their IPs that attract gamers.

@nameless12345 Well I was going by how people always say that GC was more powerful than GC. And I'll give you cartridges held N64 back but the hardware itself was a tad better than PS1 wasn't it. Snes vs Genesis, not sure on that one.PSP107

GC could deff. produce better graphics than PS2 but like I already pointed out in some of my previous posts the PS2 also had it's advantages.

64 was Nintendo's attempt to make a cheap "supercomputer" for gaming purposes as it was based on SGI tech which was cutting-edge back then (also used for the special effects in T-2 and Jurassic Park). Tech was developed in 1994 and it looked better than the best arcade tech back then (here are some old N64 tech demos - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eKlbx5niBu8 ) and for some time the 64 was the most advanced home gaming system with full hardware 3D support (contrary to PS1 and Sega Saturn which were still more 2D machines or had to render 3D only with the CPUs), preceding PC graphics accelerators like the 3dfx Voodoo. But a SGI workstation didn't use cartridges, neither had so little RAM (if still more than PS1 and Saturn). The CPU was also cost-reduced and the GPU had poor Z-buffer performance and little texture memory and the console was generally hard to develop for which turned off the 3rd party developers.

And SNES had a slower CPU than Genesis but had a much higher colour palette, Mode 7 effects, a better sound chip and special chips that could enhance the games (such as Super FX).

Why should the graphics even matter?

Gameplay was and is the for most important thing in Video Games.

silversix_

because graphics enhance gameplay? duh. Would u like an ugly game with good gameplay or stunning looking game with good gameplay? gameplay>graphics is so stooopid...

Yeah I can't tell if you're being serious or sarcastic.

thats a lie, if they weren't trying to compete with graphics then they wouldn't have made the wii-u the way it is, they could have easily made a wii-2 with a little more power but its main focus is the casual market. I don't think casuals are going to adopt the wii-u as they did with the wii but we will see.

This is news because it essentially means that Nintendo has been lying to us for the last year since the WiiU was announced.
Nintendo kept going out of there way to say that they WANT the WiiU to get multi-plats, and that they WANT third party support, but when it's come time to deliver on it they come out saying "graphics don't matter" well guess what Nintendo, they do matter if you want those developers to make games for your console, and in turn gamers to buy it.
We all saw it with the Wii, Nintendo had the best selling console on the market, but none of the big company's would touch them with there big franchises because it was so weak, and developing for the PS3/360 meant it was easy and cheap to port from one of those to the other and when the Wii did get something, it was usually some cheap afterthought, the WiiU will end up been a bigger letdown than the Wii was, for a while it'll get some of the PS3/360's games, but once the new consoles come out it'll end up been first party only...again. Unless by some miracle the PS4 and X720 end up not been as powerful as people expects...
