MS will probably try to dominate the hardware department next gen, I imagine Sony will be closer to the Wii U than the next Xbox since financially they're not in a position to engage in a hardware arms-race with MS, but both Nintendo and Sony should be secure with their IPs that attract gamers.lamprey263
Well I was suprised Sony went all out on Vita so there is hope Sony will go all out with PS4.

Saying important to the world... is just wrong.

I wonder did he mean on economic standpoint consider new hardware can boost retail sales.

"Nintendo does not care about graphics"

parkurtommo

Just what I was thinking.

It's good that they don't care about graphics, but I don't like where they've gone with gameplay either. The Wii U looks promising, though.

That is why they keep going out of their way to mention the graphics will not be much of a jump when the new consoles release. Nintendo knows they have a weak system and they like to use these gimmicks and twist (like not releasing system specs) to hide the fact they are too cheap to give gamers high end gameplay. They also know the average Nintendo fan will buy Mario for the 40th time.

WarTornRuston

What exactly is "high-end gameplay"? Nintendo creates wonderful experiences that normally cannot be found on other platforms.

Why should the graphics even matter?

Gameplay was and is the for most important thing in Video Games.

Graphics are gameplay. You need to render worlds, enemies and objects before you can play with them.

By graphics don't matter, I think they mean "Who gives a f*** if it looks bad as long as the gameplay itself is good?"

Graphics are not going to factor in my purchase of the WiiU so I couldn't really care less. If I wanted super high-end graphics I would build myself a new rig.

Pretty sure the lack of an HD console in 2006 proved this. xP

This is news because it essentially means that Nintendo has been lying to us for the last year since the WiiU was announced.
Nintendo kept going out of there way to say that they WANT the WiiU to get multi-plats, and that they WANT third party support, but when it's come time to deliver on it they come out saying "graphics don't matter" well guess what Nintendo, they do matter if you want those developers to make games for your console, and in turn gamers to buy it.
We all saw it with the Wii, Nintendo had the best selling console on the market, but none of the big company's would touch them with there big franchises because it was so weak, and developing for the PS3/360 meant it was easy and cheap to port from one of those to the other and when the Wii did get something, it was usually some cheap afterthought, the WiiU will end up been a bigger letdown than the Wii was, for a while it'll get some of the PS3/360's games, but once the new consoles come out it'll end up been first party only...again. Unless by some miracle the PS4 and X720 end up not been as powerful as people expects...

spike6958

I think this time the WiiU will probably be able to handle games from the next gen consoles. It is using hardware that is modern(Around 2010/2011) this time unlike the Wii which was using hardware that was from 1999/2000 and the 360 and PS3 were using hardware from 2005.

Nintendo has some of the best 1st party games in the business, they are giants in their own right. They don't have to be afraid of anyone.

Besides if you truly wanted good graphics on a console you would buy a PS3, it's games look better than anything on the other console by a far, some of them even rival many high PC games out there. Seriously look at TLOU and KZ3 and GOWA ect....and compare them to PC Witcher or PC Crysis, the PS3 games look just as good and even better in some areas like character models and animations ect....no other console can do the same thing.

Of course the Hermits will deny it, but it's the truth. I bet you if TLOU was never announced for PS3 people would assume it was an upcoming PC only game by the way it looks, it looks THAT good.

Yeah!It used mostly parts from the gamecube, but with a new CPU and more ram.The GPU and CPU were clocked higher.

Of course not. They have been competing with the likes of Hasbro, Barney, and Nick Jr. for ages. According to sources, Pokemon, Mario, and Zelda have been winning the children market.

doubtful, they didn't really go "all out", the Vita cost like $160 to make leaving quite a bit of profitability on the shelf price in comparison, MS released the Xbox 360 at $400 and their unit manufacturing cost was at $715, Sony released the PS3 at $600 and the unit manufacturing cost was at $840, MS was easily able to absorb the early loss while Sony had to sell their assets within a year just to keep the company profitable... anyhow, not saying Sony won't go all out just that it wouldn't be smart, if they do go all out I'd imagine that would be the make it or break it point for Sony

Well Sony has Ratchet & Clank and Little Big Planet, and Microsoft has Kinect, but it's hard to have great games that appeal to everyone like Nintendo does.

I doubt they will. MS doesn't care for pushing the tech envelope anymore either. If they did, we would already get a new and powerful Xbox by 2010 but instead we got Kinect. The original Xbox was on the market just four years and basically died off the moment 360 came on the market. But the 360 is already seven years on the market but still no successor in sight other than vague speculation that ranges from a not much more powerful "KinectBox" to a "supercomputer" in console form. If they really wanted to push the tech, they would already do so.

Sure, it is all about the games

Which Wii had near zero in too LOL

Zelda TP was a GC game, Zelda SS was good, but nothing old games and just one title

Muramasa was nice but a bit tedious and repeatitve and that was it, 3 games for 6+ years on the market, one of which is mainly a GC game

So, two worthy exclusives for years and years on the market

Last Story and Xenogears were good too, nothing special though and the graphics are worst than many PS1 games

it would have been pretty stupid of them to release a new console in 2010, releasing that early would make consumers angry at MS for abandoning the Xbox 360 early, and consumers would only have to wait a couple more years for a even more powerful system to be released by one of MS's competitors, people can knock Kinect but it did seem to help sell systems as well as take advantage of what userbase MS does have, I don't know why all the hate though, Sony's made three separate attempts at motion controls this gen and neither of them were that popular, and the Wii's gimmicky controls ran their course anyhow, my mentioning of MS's ability to use money for the hardware edge wasn't meant to mean they'd try to outperform the competition with a beast, just enough to have slightly more superior multiplatforms, and since I doubt they'll really try to build an exclusive library to compete with Sony or Nintendo I think having the slightly superior multipatforms is there best shot if they want to play things right lastly, like I said I think they just want to have a slight edge in hardware, enough that they can at least claim it's the more powerful of the three consoles, or at least enough so that fanboys believe, but I think all three consoles will be pretty similar at least as far as they perform, and even if they're not I still think 3rd party developers will develop multiplatforms to cater to all three systems anyways and that will depend on the lowest common denominator

Five, six years is "normal" life span of a console (with a few years of extended life beyond that). If the old hardware race was still worth anything, we would already have a new Xbox on the market and were about to get a new Sony system. But the hardware race has become more of a thing of the past. The console makers are starting to realize that just better muscle won't win them the market. If hardware really mattered that much, consoles like NES, SNES, PS1, PS2 and Wii would all be outsold by stronger competition. But they were not. They were the market leaders. So hardware deff. won't be priority for the next-gen consoles. Instead, they will likely focus more on the "social connectivity", "family amusement" and "cloud gaming" aspecs.

Even an average PC tech would represent a significant leap over PS3. Compare Battlefield 3 PS3 with the maxed out PC version running in 1080p at 60 fps. That would be considered a generational leap once.

The same place consoles always go. If you thought the difference between the PS2 and PS3 was worth it, you should be excited for next gen.

Better graphics mean better gameplay though. There's a reason zombie games evolved from a handful on screen, to the massive hordes of Dead Rising and Left 4 Dead... the consoles got powerful enough to render that many at once, complete with the physics and AI that accompany them! More power = more possiblities = better games :D

[QUOTE="PSP107"][QUOTE="lamprey263"] Well I was suprised Sony went all out on Vita so there is hope Sony will go all out with PS4.nameless12345

doubtful, they didn't really go "all out", the Vita cost like $160 to make leaving quite a bit of profitability on the shelf price in comparison, MS released the Xbox 360 at $400 and their unit manufacturing cost was at $715, Sony released the PS3 at $600 and the unit manufacturing cost was at $840, MS was easily able to absorb the early loss while Sony had to sell their assets within a year just to keep the company profitable... anyhow, not saying Sony won't go all out just that it wouldn't be smart, if they do go all out I'd imagine that would be the make it or break it point for Sony

There is qoute Sony said there will be no PS4 untill there is a signifcant leap over PS3. key word "SIGNIFCANT"

Even an average PC tech would represent a significant leap over PS3. Compare Battlefield 3 PS3 with the maxed out PC version running in 1080p at 60 fps. That would be considered a generational leap once.

But we're talking consoles.

Oops, one gen too late.parkurtommo

In all reality, where the hell can the consoles go next? Look slightly better than they do now?

The same place consoles always go. If you thought the difference between the PS2 and PS3 was worth it, you should be excited for next gen.

I think he means Gameplay wise.

He was responding to a comment about resolution. This gen has been all about new gameplay experiences. (e.g. games like Assassins Creed and Arkham City nailed 3D platforming. Next gen will be better than we might expect.
