So I haven't seen a debate in a long time over the portable front. Which one do you like more? Why? Discuss the war here.

Personally, I like them both equally. I liked the older DS systems when they still had GBA compatability, and I like the PSP for the most core games (ie Chains of Olympus, Dissidia, etc.).

Original DS and DS Lite due to GBA compatibility. PSP is a good system but honestly all it has over the DS is the graphics capability, size of gamesand an analog. DS has amuch bigger library of core games if you want to call them that, they have real online play in most of the games, game sharing in most of the games, and sooo much more. I must admit, the PSP has surprised me though with how they have stuck in there. I thought it would've been discontinued a long time ago,Kudos PSP for that. PSP is a good system but in comparison to the DS, the DS easily wins.

Neither, the iPhone RULES. Check out the iPhone tabs on gamespot, it got more AAAEs in one day then the DS or PSP EVER got, there is even one or two that aren't found on flash game sites!

Sometimes I wish I could get into those dungeon crawlers, well I guess I've played dungeon crawlers a lot, I just can't get into them when the motivation is entirely to like explore a dungeon or whatnot, I need some proper motivation to enjoy them. :P

The PSP is superior because of Monster Hunter. You think one game can't make a system? Think again.

I believe one game could potentially make a system...but Monster Hunter? I don't know about all that. Peace Walker/Metal Gear Solid I'll go with; Chains of Olympus, perhaps; but Monster Hunter?

Yep. Monster Hunter. Piece of 6.5 trash is actually fun after 500 hours of playing it.

But I didn't mean to say MH was the only good game, of course. The PSP is packed.

Hm...I guess I've always overlooked Monster Hunter because I assumed it would be generic and uninteresting. I'm not sure where this notion came from, but now I might have to give it a shot.

You have to want it. If your not willing to give the game at least 100 hours you shouldn't even start.

You could also argue that it is repetitive, but I find that even though you often do the same quests over and over, they always turn out different. Some harder and some easier.

And there's hundreds of different items, weapons, armor sets; can be overwhelming.

And you need friends (or PS3 and adhocParty will do)

So for a single player who might or might not want to put hundreds of hours into a game, you're saying Monster Hunter isn't worth it?

No. I would not buy it. I bought it cause I had friends with PSPs and we all got it.

I (being a "veteran") am seeing how far I can get without anyone else's help. That means no multiplayer whatsoever. One of my MH buddies is joining me in this challenge.

Imagine being by yourself, being attacked by a generally big monster, who's only objective is to kill you, no matter how "cheap" it is, and you are his one and only target. If you get hit, you fall over, and it takes some time to get up, in which time the monster can easily cheaply attack you just as you get up. Or your stuck with a weapon that can't block, you need to use a potion, and (excluding Sword and Shield) you have to put your weapon away (which takes time, and your pretty much stopped while doing it) and you get killed by a monster. Or you are taking the potion (which takes time) and you get hit while your taking it. And when it comes to the legendary G-Rank quests, you generally die in 2 hits, maybe one if you have mediocre armor.

This is how Monster Hunter generally goes, but the feeling of accomplishment after beating one of these brutal quests (which have a 50 minute time limit) is unlike any other.

i own both, and i can say that the DS is a better system in terms of games(and except for power, in terms of hardware as well) M&L:Bowsers inside story, new super mario bros., pokemon platinum, LoZ:phantom hourglass, The world ends with you...really, too many to list.

but the psp has good games as well. MGS:portable ops, Daxter, and others are good. but the ds>psp in everything except power

I'm an RPG gamer, and I've found that the PSP has a lot more RPGs that I enjoy. I played The World Ends with You on the DS, and I gotta say... while it was one of the best handheld RPGs I've ever played, it was also the game that pointed out my biggest problem with the DS: I hate having to use the stylus. It's a nice gimmick, but I'm more about wrapping my hands around a controller and just pressing buttons.

That is just flat out false, I've put so many hours into many PSP games, a couple were ports, but nothing wrong with having access to a great game on the go. Though when reading your PS3 comment, I believe you may or may not be stuck in a time loop in 2006.

lol well I've played TWEwY, I've also played the DS version of Disgaea, FFTA2,Pokemon Platinum, Suikoden Tierkreis, SMT: Devil Survivor, and got bored with FF12:RW. That's about all I was interested in... I'm not a big fan of dungeon crawlers, so Etrian Odyssey was out... not really up for the action RPG games on the DS, I'd rather play with a controller and a tv screen, so most games with action combat is out... In any case, like I said, I'm not a big fan of the stylus either. A number of games either require the stylus, or hamper you if you don't use it. Don't have that problem with the PSP. And when I get my PS3, I'll be able to connect them as needed.

Personally I like the Nintendo DS a lot more than the PSP for various reasons. Yeah both have equally impressive lineup of games that can be enjoyed by most gamers, but the Nintendo DS just offer a wider range of variety of games in my opinion. As for the older Nintendo DS comparison with the DSi, I completely agree with you on liking it better because of the GBA capatibilty.

Pretty much anything with a Capcom logo on it, AE, GG, Tekken, SC, and some other games I'm too lazy to list. The PSP has a lot of games.

As an overall system, the PSP is unquestionably better. More powerful, more features, you know the deal. For the games library, the DS gets the edge for sure. But ultimately, I tend to use my PSP more. I have to admit, I really like the PS1 Classics stuff you can buy. And being able to have some of my games on the memory stick is convenient for me. If asked though, the DS has my favorite handheld game for the generation, The World Ends with You. Its just that I use my PSP more, I guess.

I've owned both since launch.

The PSP is the only console I have ever sold, so that answers you question. Also, I play my DS every day.

The only games I've enjoyed for my PSP were: Starwars Battlefront II, Tony Hawk's Underground 2 Remix, Need for Speed: Rivals, God of War, and Assassin's Creed: Bloodlines (Played on my brother's PSP recently). Other than that, everything was mediocre.

Monster Hunter (Which got all under 7's, and most people hate) beats Professor Layton 1+2, Mario Kart, Mario&Luigi 1+2, Legend of Zelda PH and ST, New Super Mario Bros., Animal Crossing, Metriod, Soma Bringer, Big Bang Mini, Pokemon Platinum (And soon to be Heart Gold), Kingdom Hearts, Scribblenauts, and Phantasy Star 0? I don't think so...

By the way, those were off the top of my head. I will gladly name more.

I don't know how many times I've posted something like this:

The PSP is superior because of Monster Hunter. You think one game can't make a system? Think again.

The DS has been taking a crap on the PSP since fall of 2005. To this day, it's still no contest. The DS has so many good games that I can't even catch up. I'm not even kidding. I have bought like two games for my DS in 2008 and 2009 because I'm still playing games from 06/07 that I missed out on. I own about 30 games for my DS, and that's probably only 10% of the quality games you can find for it.

The psp had no chance against the ds but remember the psp is the first handheld ever to go up against a nintendo handheld and come out alive so I give psp props even though ds has way more support and games.

I agree. And I'm definitely not a PSP hater, it's just the DS is soooo much better. What's even more impressive though, is that the DS is arguably Nintendo's best handheld to date, so the fact that Sony has hung in there is just astounding.

The PSP. Although I hate portable gaming altogether. However, I still think that the Nintendo DS is the worst gaming platform, IN GAMING HISTORY.

If the second sentence is true, then I'm gonna go on a limb and say you started gaming with an Xbox 360. Am I right?
