Nintendo said years ago that they were going to change their business model. And yet, people here are still acting surprised and upset. Get over it.

If people are unhappy with Nintendo's offerings, then there are two other gaming platforms available.

Nintendo is in the business of making money and the Wii is working very well for them so far. Get used to it. As long as this model continues to be a profitable one for them, it will continue.

i think everyone understands that but it ceases to be a major disappointment to this day. its a shame really...

People obviously knew Nintendo were trying for something different this gen,.But I thinks its just how far they've went with this "casual" thing, like the fact they seem to be basing their whole business model on it,that's shocked and dissapointed alot of people.Me included.

funny how people are quickly forgeting the good games nintendo made for the wii.

Or do SMG, SSBB, amd MP3 don't exist?

Haziqonfire
great, rehash, rehash...and seriously, i would have much rather played smg with a regular controller.

Rehash? Look at the games other fanboy's are hyping.
SFIV, RE5, Resistance 2, Gears of War 2

Insomniac is probably the worst when it comes to rehashing. R&C games got released every year since they started off on the PS2. That trend is continuing this gen and also with Resistance 2.

hey man, i really couldn't agree more about insomniac. i think they put out generic garbage on a yearly basis. same with epic and gears 2 (although it looks pretty impressive). still, all of those titles offer something a little different, not to mention online play. ssbb had it but that was about the only difference between it and its former releases. mp3 recycles alot of bs too. nintendo games are by FAR the most rehashed games on the market and i really don't see how anyone can say otherwise. c'mon, how many zelda games do we really need anyway?

MGS4? Rehash. GTA4? Rehash. Halo 3? Rehash. Finaly Fantasy 13(?)? Rehash.

did i say otherwise? and at least those titles tried to improve on some things...

So what, are you saying SMG didn't imrpove from Sunshine? There's no denying Ninty has put out top tier games this gen, calling them rehashes doesn't change anything.

Funny link, ofc Ravi Drums would be #1

i said it was great, not exactly a rehash. honostly, it was quite different from most platformers including old mario ones.

Such as (and don't say graphics)?

SMG - amazing physics and betetr gameplay than any other Mario game.

SSBB - Online play, way more characters and stages, a long adventure mode.

MP3 - This is obvious. Wii-mote? Entirely new and better conrtol scheme?

SSBB was fundamentally the same as melee with minor changes.

MP3:C was similar to the rest of the MP games, however, this one was improved. It was a lot more action oriented than the others. It actually had a story line. It had terrific boss battles and it also had voice acting.

Super Mario Galaxy, as I said before, takes the platforming genre and puts a twist on it. That alone is impressive enough. Yes, its still a mario platformer, but they've mixed things up.

The zelda series was doing fine until Twilight Princess. TP felt too similar to OoT and did not deliver on a lot of promises that were made before hand that would have set itself apart from the rest.

OoT was different.
MM was different
WW was different
Phantom Hourglass was different

This thread is down right stupid. anyone who really follow nintendo know that Nintendo is promoting its casual brand, but at the same time still making hardcore quality games. the damn company is about to put out a freaking 2d game for god sakes. Nintendo is about to put out a freaking fatal frame game, i mean come on.

Nintendo just putting attention to the casual brand, cause it needs more promotion than there hardcore stuff. the wii has a growing list of hardcore games. This is something wii followers know, compare to people who dont follow the wii at all.

Nevertheless, it's giving them lots of success. The "hardcore" market is saturated by Sony and Microsoft. Nintendo attempted to compete directly with them last gen with the Gamecube and failed despite having the cheaper gaming console. So rather than attempt to compete more directly with these companies in this market segment, Nintendo decided to redirect its market focus. So yes, they have gone very far with this "casual" thing - it has helped make the company extremely profitable and its name is big again.

And like I said before, if gamers are upset with this new market focus then they can purchase one of the other gaming platforms that caters more to them. It's just that simple.

At least they still bring me quality games I enjoy a lot.
2 of my favorite games ever are on the Wii by Nintendo. SMG and MP3.
Maybe open your eyes and start looking at what they've already released on the Wii. It's more then they have ever did in such a short time. And we don't know anything about the upcoming Nintendo titles that are targeted at the core gamers yet so just be patient.

We don't know about the hardcore games because they don't exist. Give me a screen, one screen of zelda, smg2, pikmin 3. "Zelda team and Mario teams are working" We will see those game q3-q4 09. "Were making pikmin 3", Only reason he said that because of all the backlash at the press conference. If they were really making it before they would've had a trailer or something at the press conference, and if they couldn't fit it in because of all the casual crap they were showing, they would've had it at least at the developer round-table.

The funny thing is that I along with lots of others thought the Wi,before it was launched, was the end for Nintendo.

But their strategy turned out to be almost visionary.

Did I miss something? I thought at E3, Reggie was said that Core gamers should be happy with what we showed but then Miyamoto later on said that E3 was now where they showed their casual games and that their core games will be coming later.

I agree, I as many am pissed off at Nintendo. I bought an NES, SNES, N64, DS, GBA, and GBC

I knew I'd get a 360 when I saw the Wii, what a gimmick. Look at the games, horrendous just like most of the GC's collection.

stvee101

You can interpret it any way you want. I doubt Nintendo cares what a small minority of die-hard gamers are saying. What you see as a "cop out" turned out to be a brilliant business strategy for the company. It is no longer debateable - the Wii continues to sell out in all three major markets with no signs of slowing down. Of all three consoles it is the only one that has not seen any price drop because demand still remains high.

And by the way, Nintendo's business strategy isn't focusing on the "casual gamer" per se. Their strategy to develop and market a highly interactive gaming console that creates a unique gaming experience that can appeal to people of all ages. In that sense, the Wii was designed not to attract the casuals but to attract the non-gamers. The strategy worked. I knew Nintendo had this console war wrapped up when I saw my 68 year old father play Wii Sports and have a good time doing so back in December of 2006.

No what's been even more insane is the amount of haters over one stupid thing. I've never seen so many people suddenly forget every game already out, every upcoming third party and first party game, just because "Lul all dey announce was teh Wii music kiddy stuff!"

Cry moar tears

It's hilarious how people act as if Nintendo had caused them great bodily harm. I really just can't stop laughing

Zhengi

And this is also hilariously true "Lol Nintendo has completely failed now, I don't care about them no more" then why not shut up going on about how their E3 was bad. You clearly all have some kind of grudge against people having fun playing games or something because this amount of attention to something that really isn't that massive is quite amusing...

Anyone who bases his opinion on the E3 press conference is the real sheep. E3 doesn't have nearly the amount of prestige it once had, so if Nintendo isn't ready to show certain games that are being developed right now (Pikmin 3, and with all probability Mario and Zelda), they won't instead of rushing together a vague trailer that leaves us with more questions and speculation then before.

I won't try and deny that the Nintendo E3 press conference was crap, because it was, but everyone who says 'see, Nintendo will now make no more hardcore games and is completely done for' has a misconception of what E3 is these days, and isn't paying a lot of attention altogether.

I know E3 has changed but would it have killed Nintendo to show a trailer, or even a new IP? I mean seriously where are these new IPs? They could have spent 2 mintues saying "And for you core gamers we have a new F-Zero game comeing out and Retro is makeing a new IP to be released in 2009." Would that have been so hard?

I just finished watching the E3 Nintendo press release and WOW. I just busted out laughing. Nintendo has gone way out into left field all by itself here. I can't believe that's what the wii owners have to look forward to. Watching that made me SOOOO happy I told my kids NO when they asked for a wii. I got a PS3 instead. I hope this is the kind of games you wii owners wanted, because it sure is what your getting. I found the conference to be disturbing on so many levels. I feel like I am watching a old friend go out of his mind. All I could think when watching was WTF WTF WTF WTF over and over again. Like no way this is the direction the wii is headed, but damn if it isn't.

Like no way this is the direction the wii is headed, but damn if it isn't.Bubblehash
yeah, i'd have to say that sums it up perfectly lol...

I know E3 has changed but would it have killed Nintendo to show a trailer, or even a new IP? I mean seriously where are these new IPs? They could have spent 2 mintues saying "And for you core gamers we have a new F-Zero game comeing out and Retro is makeing a new IP to be released in 2009." Would that have been so hard?Pvt_KIDO

Nintendo themselves stated that they didn't want to show new hardcore lp's at E3, as they cater to a different crowd there, later in the year they will at other events though, so this whole speculation stuff is old now..

Well, they certainly weren't catering to the hardcore and that over-caffinated she-thing they had on stage half the time didn't inspire any positive emotions out of me but "terrible E3?" Do we have some drama queens within our midst? They were touting their direction and they did it effectively, nevermind what you zealots rant about, on the business end they were spot on.

[QUOTE="DireToad"][QUOTE="Shinobishyguy"]

funny how people are quickly forgeting the good games nintendo made for the wii.

Or do SMG, SSBB, amd MP3 don't exist?

Shinobishyguy

lol yeah we owe Nintendo so much. I mean, they sold us products!

Are you in the same cult as air_wolf_cubed?

Nintedo screwed up e3 2008. No one's denying that.

That still doesn't erase the fact that up untill now they made awesome games for the wii.

as long as the wii exists.... third party devs will be on ps3 and 360 because there is really no money to be made on the wii for third parties.... the audience is too saturated, too casual...... thanks Nintendo for making another first party system.

I'm sorry, what? I'm too busy thinking about Animal Crossing, Wario Land, Fatal Frame IV, Pikmin 3, Zelda, Mario, Captain Rainbow, Rhythm Tengoku Gold, Kirby Super Star Ultra, and ASH.

And that's just Nintendo's stuff, not any third party.

Man, so much hate over nothing. I was disappointed with all of the E3 conferences, but you don't see me going on about how MS/Sony/Nintendo fails.
