So through out the years, Nintendo has had many different gaming consoles. Since the Wii days, the most underpowered console as well. They still kept fans happy though, with quality first party Nintendo games.

During these times, haters have loved to point out the graphical differences for Nintendo ports and lack of Third party support. Also the smaller volume of "mature" content. Should anyone get bagged for their console of choice? Absolutely not, but I could understand to a point, where their views may come from.

Now let's fast forward to the present. The Nintendo Switch came out in March and AGAIN, has the weaker system on the market. However, it launched with Zelda: BOTW and drove sales like crazy. Exclusives game like Splatoon 2 and ARMS help continue that momentum. Wii U deluxe ports helped bring over quality games to help fill the gap and also the surprisingly talented indie devs that are filling the E shop every week.

Combine all of the above with a very smooth, portability aspect of every game and Nintendo can't make the consoles fast enough. Big third party publishers keep announcing games coming to the system, and every genre you can think of. Now Bethesda is bringing Skyrim, DOOM and also the next Wolfenstein game in 2018. So it's easy to see this system is doing well and is getting the third party support we always wanted.

What does this confirm about Nintendo haters? Well...they are still complaining, lol. There's no credit where due. Now they are focusing on how many frames will it be. What resolution?? Anything to keep from admitting Nintendo has done well. I always assumed they were just stubborn, and really believed that third party support was everything. Now we have that, and it's clear there's no pleasing them.

You should just make the SWITCH and join us hahaha. Seriously, all consoles are great and fun in their own ways. I own multiple and honestly...unless you're PC gamer, you really shouldn't talk about frame rates and resolution because they win.

It's great Switch is getting third party support. But a bunch of watered down, and more expensive ports aren't convincing me to buy the Switch version of a game instead of every other version out there.

@freedomfreak: The portability is what makes it interesting to most people. Having "watered down" ports to complement the absolutely fantastic first and second party games makes it even better to own a Switch, as long as the games run well most people don't care about resolution or less graphical fidelity.

You articulated that very well :) Also in further support, the deluxe versions come with additional features and often local multiplayer

@freedomfreak: I think what the topic creator is trying to highlight is that Many were citing the lack of third party support as a major element that turned them away from the Switch. As it turns out though, even when third party games were announced, these same people aren't interested still as they are less appealing ports of the games available on systems they already own.

I don't think third party really is the issue the Switch is facing for many, it's the hardware itself. People want better graphics.

One thing is true. Nintendo haters have to make Olympic levels of mental gymnastics to keep their arguments going. That's been quite funny to witness.

And honestly I don't get when console players use the argument of "watered down versions" to attack the Switch. It's not like they don't play the inferior version on their systems as well.

@scatteh316: I think the first/second party games available on Nintendo Switch right now are The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Snipperclips, ARMS, Splatoon 2 and Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle. The upcoming titles for this year are Fire Emblem Warriors, Super Mario Odyssey, Xenoblade 2 and Pokken Tournament DX.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild - A true system seller!!!!

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe - A port but I like Mario Kart, is it much of a system seller?

Snipperclips - Nothing special and no system seller

ARMS - Nothing special and no system seller

Splatoon 2 - Has its fan base but it's not a system seller

Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle - Proved to be quite a surprise hit but is it really a system seller and in the same league as other Mario games?

And that's your lot.......

Besides, Splatoon 2 absolutely is a system seller. Don't doubt just how popular Splatoon is in Japan. :P

Splatoon 2 not a system seller? That game stands toe to toe with Overwatch.

@KungfuKitten: I wouldn't go that far. Overwatch totally eclipsed Splatoon 2 in sales. Not to mention, at least from my personal opinion, Overwatch is a better game. :P

All the same, I bet Splatoon 2 was the reason behind many Switch purchases. Especially in Japan.

Nintendo Fangirls are actually worse than Nintendo Haters. Seems like Nintendo is blowing their load all in 2017 with only a few hits (although Botw and Odyssey are probably the best first year exclusives ever), while the 3rd party support is still lacking, severely. Don't get me wrong it's nice to see the Switch get Skyrim, L.A. Noire and I'm sure there's 5 or 6 people out there that are excited for Doom and Wolfenstein 2. Then there's he neo geo games...WHY, how about porting some actually decent games eh?.

Yah I'll admit the Wii and the Wii u never interested me , but having PS3 like graphics on the go and indies is what made me buy the Switch. But games like DOOM and WOLF that are graphic heavy are the games that I will not buy for the Switch. because I rather play them on system that I can either run at Ultra Settings (my pc) or enjoy a nice couch game at High settings (ps4 pro). Now games like Fall out and SKyrim I would love to get them on the switch, because one they are fun, but also they are not really pretty looking games that I won't be losing the Eye Candy :)

First off, drop FPS and online MP games, they have always been meh on Nintendo consoles. Now lets go into what they can bring in new and port wise

Port/multiplat:

  • Shenmue 3
  • FF15
  • MGSR
  • Divinity Original Sin 2
  • Pyre
  • Dead Cells
  • Immortal Planet
  • Space Tyrant
  • Galaxy of Pen and Paper
  • Xcom 2
  • Wasteland 2
  • Undertale
  • Monster Hunter World
  • Code Vein
  • Darksiders 3

Hell I could go on and list a crap load more Indie games but I'm gonna stop and hopefully you see the point. Nintendo can even bring in some previous games/ports like

  • Xenoblade Chronicles
  • Xenoblade Chronicles X
  • LoZ WW
  • LoZ TWlp
  • Bayonetta 2
  • Pikmin 3
  • RE4
  • Metroid Prime
  • Metroid Prime 2
  • Luigis Mansion
  • Eternal Darkness
  • Skies of Arcadia
  • Pikmin
  • Pikmin 2
  • Mario RPG
  • Animal Crossing
  • LoZ MM

The Switch can be a killer system if Nintendo plays their cards right, a lot of companies are making bank on ports and so far Nintendo is dropping the ball big time, oh no it's ok port them Neo Geo games cause sooooo many people are like "damn remember that Neo Geo game, cause damn I wanna play that".....

Nintendo has already killed it in 1st party with 2 Goty contenders (Botw and Odyssey) and yet their 3rd party is still severely lacking, no I'm not hyped for Xenoblade Chronicles 2, every time they show a video of that game it makes me hate the game even more cause it looks like a complete down grade from the previous 2 games. The Switch just screams it can support soooo many of those Indie games but they aren't giving the right Indie games a chance, you can half of the 3rd party support out there if they would bring in Indie games.

@Ballroompirate: That is a nice list of games that I think would make sense. Thinking about games that aren't going to be affected too greatly by performance drops such as strategy games in the form of X-Com. Plenty of indie ports I'm sure will come. There is promising support with titles such as Hollow Knight, The End is Nigh, Kentucky Route Zero and Owlboy already confirmed for Switch. So I'm not really sure I agree with you regarding indie support. The system has a lot of indie support coming and already on the system too. Then you have exclusive titles like Azure Striker Gunvolt, Golf Story and Dragon: Marked for Death. Also the developer of Dead Cells is looking into a Switch version. ;)

Regarding ports of first/second party titles. It's still early days to count those ports out. We can't say for sure whether something like will happen or not. Who knows?

And hey, Neo Geo is cool! Their fighting games, at least are top quality. King of Fighters is excellent.

@freedomfreak: Then the Switch is not for you.

@scatteh316: BotW, MK8, ARMS, Splatoon 2 and Mario + Rabbids are all fantastic games imo, as will Odyssey and XBC2 probably also be. And those are just the first/second party games. I'm playing the Project Octopath demo and am pretty sure that is going to be fantastic as well.

Portability, what a freaking joke. I never see handheld consoles in the wild. I don't see Switches, 3DSs, Vitas(that's a joke you know), DSs, nor any kind of portable console out in the public. I see cellphones all day, but no handhelds.

@tigerbalm: The Nintendo DS was the last portable console I saw widely used in public mainly because it was greater for younger kids. Portable gaming for adults doesn't have the same appeal in the Americas and Europe as it does in Japan, but that doesn't mean it is isn't useful to those who do like to use it outside their homes as well as inside.

Most adults will still go to their phones for a quick fix on the train and leave their main gaming time to home but some of us, including myself were more than comfortable using a system like 3DS, Vita or Switch during their commute or at lunch. It's significantly less common, however I have certainly seen people using the 3DS around my city. I have only ever seen one other person using a Switch in public. I use it though. I use it on the bus and I like to take it on lunches with me when I am not reading or playing table tennis.

@aki2017: It will be interesting to see how that support performs and sustains. If Bethesda find success with their efforts, I wonder if they will keep at it. It totally depends on how the titles sell of course. At least they are trying. The Nintendo Wii and Wii U had a vicious cycle of developers trying out 3rd party titles, then receiving lackluster sales and avoiding the platform thereafter.

Big third party publishers keep announcing games coming to the system

I dont want to burst your bubble but this has always happened with Nintendo consoles i.e. huge 3rd party support at the beggining that ends up dying later down the line when they realize Nintendo gamers buy Nintendo consoles to play Nintendo games...

Also, besides Bethesda, wich other "Big 3rd party publisher" are you talking about? Even with Bethesda all you having (with the exception of wolfenstein) is ports of already old games, wich is exactly what happened with the WiiU (member ME3? Deus Ex: HR? Batman: Arkham city? yeah, exactly...). So calm down and wait a couple of more years before saying something along the lines of "3rd party publishers supporting the Switch and they're here to stay" bullcr4p.

@Vatusus: SEGA, Ubisoft and Square Enix, I guess. EA too if you consider some their sports titles. Still very little from Warner Bros. Interactive, Capcom (outside of Japan), Konami and many others outside of some singular titles.

But you are right. The sustainability of this support has always come down how they perform and historically, 3rd party developers have had a hard time finding success on Nintendo home consoles such as the Wii and Wii U. Here is hoping the Switch can break this trend so we can see sustained 3rd party support.

Huh? The general consensus is positive towards the Switch.

I don't see anybody complaining about its graphics and frame rates.

The only thing left is for handheld devs and Nintendo to let the 3DS die and put all their support onto Switch.

From what I've gathered. The elite people want exclusive games from 3rd party which makes use of switch hardware than ports of games of yesteryear. myself I've played doom already (15 pound, new = winning) but won't repurchase it unless dirt cheap, will see into wolfenstein 2 if they can implement *WAGGLE* and controls work similar to Wii's FPS games like redsteel 2 and clock consistent FPS I'll be buzzing.

Overall: Variety is good but still need few select games from developers to push switch. I'll be picking one up as soon as can as Splatoon 2 is a SYSTEM SELLER.

Question: what's possibility that capcom got Resi 7 running on Switch?!

Nintendo is getting a whole lot right these days and I am a very happy Switch ownsr. If I could wave a magic wand, I'd just make them join the 21st century in terms of their social media presence. The way they handle their intellectual property is just a smidge antiquated.

@jumpaction: Fingers crossed, but I feel they won't be disappointed with sales. DOOM is only a year old and portability does make a difference in experience also :) I'd also expect something Nintendo specific or exclusive for the Switch version. Every port I've seen so far comes with extra content ^ ^

@tigerbalm: Soo...because you don't "see" it, that means others can't enjoy the convenience of it? Or must we wait until others do it before we enjoy ourselves??

@Vatusus: I respect the word of caution and we did see some nice initial support for the Wii U. My counter argument/thought is certain differences that give me additional confidence. Such as Bethesda and Rockstar North bringing games over, when they had not before. Also just the fact the Wii U had possibly the worst marketing ever, while the Switch is actually in high demand.

@APiranhaAteMyVa: I would love to see 3DS games available on Switch. Just playing them on the large screen with the massive up in resolution would be nice!

@Dibdibdobdobo: It's been confirmed actually that CAPCOM has gotten Resident Evil 7 running on Switch, and are just trying to get the dock and undock mode working. They didn't say this means it's coming to Switch, they simply said they did get it working in some form.

@SecretPolice: I'd rather this open discussion with fellow gamers ;)

@Shewgenja:You referring to the whole taking youtube videos down if anything Nintendo is inside it?

Rockstar North bringing games over,

Another port of an old game. Hardly anything to be excited over. Once they announce a RDR2 or a GTA VI not longer after the other consoles release date then yeah, you would have legitimate reasons to be excited for 3rd party support. News of old games ports have been pretty much irrelevant when analysing long time 3rd party support on Nintendo consoles

It's what it represents. They avoided Nintendo consoles. Except for the 3DS that did get a GTA. So this is promising. It's the bigger picture here that Nintendo fans are happy about. Also, GTA is an old game itself

It represents nothing. R* supported Nintendo before (GTA Chinatown Wars and Manhunt 2 on the Wii). That didnt mean you had their major games on Nintendo consoles

Also, I mentioned GTA VI, not V

People call me a Nintendo hater, yet they are the consoles I play on the most, just not the new garbage. If you are happy with the few scraps Nintendo gives you these days than more power to you, but I have higher standards than that. Until Nintendo comes back more aggressive like they were in the 80's/90's you can count me out.

This is the Nintendo I love.

@emgesp: Super Mario Odyssey really will be a great game. Maybe one day you'll get to play it. :)

Or I can play Super Mario Bros 1 - 3, Super Mario World and Super Mario 64. Odyssey looks like it will be another solid Mario game, but no way am I paying $360 just to play a new Mario.

What Nintendo consoles do you own? Wii, Wii U and Switch?
