Yea, they announced almost immediately after BOTW they were working on a new one. Given the BOTW success critically and commercially no surprise.

I hope they port Wind Waker HD.

Nintendo sadly never listens to the criticisms and always double downs on things gamers don’t want.

Instead of Weapon Breaking, the next Zelda will have NO weapons at all.

Link will just use his hands for fighting/climbing and there will be stamina meters for every limb. Punch too many things and your hands will break. Then you will need to heal at camps and drink 20 pounds of milk to heal.

But that's how we ended up with Majora's Mask, the superior sequel to an overrated game.

I’m very interested in seeing what this might be. Personally I totally loved Breath of the Wild so if they just carry on the the next game like that I would be just fine with that myself. They could go back to a more ‘typical’ Zelda game as well and I wouldn’t mind that either. Either way I’m just really looking forward to another Zelda game.

The weapons SHOULD break. It gives purpose to the exploration and pushes you to use different types. I found it kind of boring that I could play all the way through Dark Souls with the same long sword. Gamers are stupid. What I'll agree with these people on is that maybe the weapons should be more durable.

This in relation to Zelda is the second most hilarious thing I've read all day. You literally pulled this out of your ass with no research at all.

Yeah, it just occurred to me as I was shitting that this is BS. People kept asking for voice acting and more RPG elements, which Nintendo brought to Breath of the Wild.

i wasn't a fan either. it wasnt the game breaking issue some make it out to be but it was annoying. I could see why nintendo did it (as you say it forced the player to use different types and to think more) but i think they could have used a more elegant system. i reckon they had a slightly different take on it that was built with the wiiu gamepad in mind at some point but had to change it late in development to get it working on the switch. in fact i reckon a lot of the game needed mechanical changes due to the switch version (e.g. i dont think they wanted to allow the player to pause to switch weapons and eat meals). but thats a different matter.

as for the next zelda: well BOTW was just the tip of the iceberg with the overhaul of the zelda setup and i hope its a thought process they play with further for the next game.

More weapon breakage please.

No really, I personally loved it and love it even more now that I see so many System Warriors hating it.

It goes back more than that. People complained about Wind Waker's cell shading and ocean? We got TP. People complained that TP had a big, empty world? We got Skyward Sword with smaller, more dense sections. People didn't like that? We got BotW. Zelda's direction seems heavily impacted by reception to the previous entry.

That's abit silly.

There are better implementations of weapon damage, and I'm, willing to bet most people who like any kind of games with collectable weapons would much rather other systems.

"10 swings and it breaks" is pretty f*cking lame. not to mention repetitive, and its not very exciting because you have the same handful of weapons from early on.

You want an even bigger overhaul? Do you even like Zelda? Because it sounds like you want a game with Zelda in the name but nothing in common with the series.

@techhog89: yup. i hope nintendo keep running with it. keep toying around with the structure, playing with the visual style etc. the old structure which dates back to a link to the past...well its been perfected. 3 dungeons with an item in each dungeon that basically only gets used in that dungeon. some bigger event 9usually get the master sword in some dramatic fashion), 5 more dungeons or so, kill gannon...the end. the bits they use to fill in those blocks of content...well they are out of ideas since TP really. its been done to death and the old structure is stifling.

more mini dungeons with more crazy scenarios! more focus on making the overworld a playground and a place with loads of cool things to discover (the older zeldas had an overworld as just window dressing really. i cant even remember most of it in TP for example.). more towns and cities (lacking in BOTW, made sense in the context of the game though). more enemy varieties. more weapon variety (and make them all needed at some point and also quite different to use).

shigeru miyamoto commented that the inspiration for zelda came from playing as a kid in his back garden (or playing with his kids in the back garden...or maybe that was pikmin :S). having adventures. BOTW was the closest to getting to the essence of that. find a stick on the ground and use it as a weapon. find an odd looking thing and figure out what it does or where it goes. climb that hill to see what lies on top and past it. this is the core of zelda as a series. it is an adventure series and BOTW is structured more to let the player go out and have their own adventure. this is something that should be further developed: not a pointless overworld limited to the 20 year old structure of just completing the same types of dungeons.

Honestly, Nintendo's games are just to simple for me. I bought a Nintendo Switch 3 months ago with Zelda and Mario Odyssey, and I've barely touched them. Its hard to play a game like Red Dead Redemption 2, or God of War, then boot up Zelda after that.

Basically, take RDR2, or any Rockstar game, or any open world game for that matter. Take all of its negative parts, like being repettitive, etc..... Now remove the deep narrative and story from RDR (the thing that makes you endure the boring parts), and thats Zelda.

Nintendo's games are too simple narrative wise. Its like playing a phone game. Good to pick up and play in short bursts, but nothing that will keep you engaged for hours upon hours, in the way of narrative at least.

Unlike the government which has an obligation to listen to criticism, Nintendo is a private company with no obligation to do so whether gamers like it or not. If gamers do not like what Nintendo is doing to its games, then instead of acting entitled or boycott Nintendo, they should just support/play games other than from Nintendo. It is that simple. Gaming is a privilege, not a right.

@kali-b1rd: Weapons don’t break after 10 swings though, that’s a massive hyperbole. Most weapons are pretty durable, and the ability to throw your weapons at enemies for large amounts of damage right before they are about to break add a lot to your strategy. Especially since throwing weapons and hitting enemies is pretty difficult in a lot of situations.

@StrongDeadlift: It’s impossible to have a valid opinion on things you’ve “barely touched”. The sheer amount of one-time gameplay concepts in Mario Odyssey for example completely negates your perception of a simple or repetitive game.

I never could have guessed they will be working on another zelda. And another Mario platformer. And another Mario Kart. And another smash. And a handful of other well worn franchises. And that's your lot.

I would love for them to port over A Link Between Worlds to the Switch. My 3ds has gotten zero action since last March. Would be great on the big screen.
