What do you think? Do you see Nintendo as innovative pioneers of video games or the gimmicky video game company?

Out of Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo. Sony is my favorite. But Im smart enough to know the Nintendo is the best out of all.
I would say last gen they were pretty creative and perhaps innovative. This gen? Mostly gimmicky. But apparently, gimmicky wins over innovation.
The DS and Wii were pretty damn innovatve IMO. Im not too sure about the 3DS. 3D doesnt seem all that innovative.
Theyre kinda both I guess.
alll 3 companys made a mistake or two nintnedo how ever has learned , from virtual boy since then have had no really commercail failure
and lol they came back to the top as fast as sony dropped like arock with that said , ,
you cant keep a good dog down
and i call more innovative then gimmick cause look everyone is doing what n64 did they doing everything wii did now
and now ngp is copying the very same things 3ds /ds did
so ya i say innovative
Well Nintendo did intoduce many things to the industry, I'm not sure if they were the first to do these but they made them more popular.
Nintendo did innovate some and brought back old ideas that no one really capitalized on sucessfully, but you can't deny that they continue to set new standards.
I would say they are most deffanantly inovative. They came out with the
Wireless controller
rumble feature
Wii motion controlls
And it seems like MS and SONY copy them on alltheir ideas.
Nothing agenst SONY and MS because they inovate aswell(online gaming, online chat ext), but It seems ninty does some pretty ballsy moves in the gaming industry to try to improve it.
Gimmicky since N64 IMO. The age of the CD started coming around, but nooooo Nintendo had to use Cartriges still...does anyone remember some of those games costing like 80 bucks new??
Then came Gamecube...hey lets use DVD's! Noooo...Lets use MINI CD's! They are so cute all the kids will love em!
Then Wii came out...still no DVD player, but this time around Motion controls...the same ones you can find at those little booths in the mall where you hook up a baseball bat to your TV directly and play baseball. Its been done before, meh.
And then we have the 3ds...Although I cant blame em because the 3d craze that started not long ago, but my fear is that it wont last long and Nintendo will still have this 3d handheld.
gimmicky motion controls..nuff saidcampzorYou forgot to add Gimmicky motion controls that Sony and Microsoft was eveer so quick to copy lol.
Anyone who says gimmicky is a fanboy, and straight up lying to themselves. Nintendo has been innovating the industry since before many of us were even born. Just look back to the analog stick, in game saves, rumble, official wireless controllers. button layout, and now motion controlls and 3D, ect. While some people may not like or agree with some of the decisions Nintendo has made there is no denying that theyre innovative.

Well its not all black and white. Like I said before Nintendo gives us more innovation than they do gimmicks, but they do give us gimmicks from time to time.Anyone who says gimmicky is a fanboy, and straight up lying to themselves. Well that would just be every company in existence. Nobody is so perfect they are going to hit the mark 100% of the time, but they do hit it more often than not, so because of this my original point stands. Someone would have to be willfuly ignorant to say they are more gimmicky than innovative

Absolutely. I cant imagine what this industry would have been like without Nintendo. When it comes to the big dogs, they are the risk takers.[QUOTE="ZIVX"]

I knew that one was off, thank you for pointing that outA gimmick is just something used to attract attention. If something is innovative, it usually is gimmicky as well. There is nothing wrong with gimmicks. People use it like it is the worst thing ever.

Sometimes Nintendo innovates. Sometimes Nintendo employs gimmicks that catch on (rumble, motion controls). And sometimes companies just copy Nintendo, because Nintendo is in a position to be copied. For example, the NES controller's layout being the basis of all modern controllers. Or they're copied simply because they're the industry leader. On the contrary, after the the N64 the Gamecube took several cues from the Playstation. Why? It was successful.
how are hd graphics gimmicks? isn't that technology?hd graphics are gimmicks so are fps games

While I don't necessarily disagree with your entire post, and of course it is your opinion, I was wondering why you consider rumble a gimmick? I'm sure back in the day everybody was calling rumble a gimmick and everything, but now if it isn't included than everybody throws a fit. Look at the sixaxis. IMO this is exactly what will happen with motion controlls. Right now there are critics blasting it and calling it a gimmick but the way the industry is going in 15 years it will be the standard. That is exactly what being innovative is. Having the balls to innovate a so called "gimmick", and then watching as the rest of the industry catches up
