Nintendo never went away, my friends. They've just been making wiser business decisions as of late. Plus 3rd parties have been putting out great exclusive software as well, that's the real difference here for the Big N compared to their3rd party support during VG Gen #6. Sure... the vast amount of shovelware is noticable but that ain't Nintendo's fault, nor was it Sony's fault during the PS1 and 2 eras.
I'm stoked for the first half of this year and very interested to find out whats in store for the second.
[QUOTE="rolo107"]Not for me, I still feel betrayed for multiple reasons. I really supported them, and was a complete sheep until the Wii. I still miss NSider, and the old Nintendo. They still retain some of their former spirit, but not enough. I do own my Wii and am beyond excited for SMG2, but I want more. Pixel-Pirate
I'm sure they felt betrayed when few bought the GC. I still don't understand what Nintendo did to "betray!" people. They've always had less than stellar third party support, they've always used the same franchises, and it's not like it's the first time they had a less powerful console. I really don't get what they've done besides release some less hardcore games like wii sports and fit, which isn't a bad thing unless one believes a console shouldn't have ANY casual games at all. Plus....wii sports and fit? Fun games.
Wii Sports & Fit? Lame games. The poll options are pretty useless but I think Nintendo did pretty good with their showing at the summit.
I still want to see the likes of Pikmin 3, a new F-Zero, a new Star Fox, some footage of Zelda Wii, whatever they are doing with their Vitality Sensor, Wiimotes with MotionPlus actually built in, a patch or something for DVD playback, a much better designed Shop Channel, downloadable game demos, a Wii price drop, and a few more fixes here and there.
Then I will be satisfied...
2009 was quite disappointing.. only one game that I was interested in and that was it. My Wii did not get a lot of Playtime besides the Brawl and Mario Kart Casuals. My DS lies somewhere I dunno... But 2010 looks awesome.. I will get Galaxy 2, Other M for sure. No More Heroes 2 is also one of my most wanted games. My DS will get a nice time with Pocemans and Golden Sun x333 And wow.. Zelda too. This makes up for 2009 being a very crappy year.Shoooryuken
Your eyes must have been closed the whole year.
Interested in the top 3 games. But how can you say there back? Sure, they make great first party games, in fact, there my favorite first part developer ever. But they refuse to catch up to the modern standards of HD. They are 5 years in the past, and refuse to catch up to the future, by catering to non-gamers instead of hardcore fans. There's a reason why there's a crap load of mini game shovelware in the wii. It's because so many non-gamers play the damn system, that they would by anything as long as it looks somewhat fun. But alot of the times, these games are crap. I refuse to back a company that would rather cater to an outside audience then to focus on there fanbase. People always make the argument that they have never left there dedicated fan base. And for that, I call bull. Sure, they release there own first party games, but they would be doing that even without an outside market. Let's say they just made an upgraded gamecube with no motion controls, they would still be making a game like Super Mario Galaxy, because that's what Nintendo does, they make great games for there systems. I was a long time supporter of Nintendo. I owned a Super Nintendo before I could walk, I was one of the first to own an N64, and I sure as hell loved my gamecube. And yes, I bought a Wii when it came out. Then, I got a 360 and it blew me away. The amount of good, consistent games you get on that thing is crazy. And then I bought a PS3, and now I can play almost any game I want. I would rather take 10 great games a year on the PS3 and 360 then wait around 2 years to see the next taste of Mario, Metroid and Zelda. And for those who say that there is a lot of third party support, you've got to be kidding me. Look at the amount of great third party games exclusive to the 360 and PS3. Both of those systems hold 10 times as many great third party games. I always supported the argument that with sales, would come third party support. And it has. Just the shovelware kind. twice as much third party games, 95% of it being awful. I'm sorry, but Nintendo deserves to lose this generation. They have become all flash and no substance with there motion controls. I can't wait till MS and Sony bring out there own motion control stuff, and leave the non-HD, short life, pathetic excuse of a system Nintendo has given us in the dust.luigigreen
If the Wii is behind why are THE GRAFIX consoles trying to catch up to it?
Oh yeah, baby, Nintendo is back, and how. After three years of being derided and ridiculed, Nintendo is back with a vengeance to claim victory over all hardcore gamers. With one of the strongest lineup a company has had ever (and keep in mind that this lineup is restricted to only the first half of the year. God knows how many more awesome mind blowing titles they'll be announcing at E3!), boy, this year sure is gonna be a treat for any self respecting hardcore (ew) gamer.
Some titles from their lineup include (these include third party titles as well):
- Super Mario Galaxy 2
- Metroid: Other M
- The Legend of Zelda
- Sin and Punishment 2
- Dragon Quest IX
- Red Steel 2
- Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands
- NBA Jam 10
- Pokemon HeartGold/SoulSilver
- Golden Sun DS
- Epic Mickey
- Monster Hunter Tri
- Dragon Quest VI
- Tales of Graces
- Arc Rise Phantasia
- WarioWare D.I.Y

I might just buy a wii if only for that.

and you'll find out that they are barely putting out great titles. Don't even try to argue with me. The great thing is that they are putting out new stuff soon. Still, Nintendo has always been that extremely addicting, fun local multiplayer console for me, but not having Rare as a develop has been a big loss in my eyes (and Rare doesn't even have the same people staffed in their company during the N64 era). All I have for multiplayer on the Wii is Smash Bros and Wii Sports. They need to do better on that front in addition to their great single player games like SMG.mD-Wait- in the last decade, they've given us The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass, The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks, Golden Sun, Golden Sun 2: The Lost Age, Super Mario Sunshine, Super Mario Galaxy, New Super Mario Bros, New Super Mario Bros Wii, Mario Kart: Double Dash, Mario Kart DS, Mario Kart Wii, Mario and Luigi: Superstar Saga, Mario and Luigi: Partners in Time, Mario and Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story, Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door, Super Paper Mario, Metroid Prime, Metroid Prime 2: Echoes, Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, Metroid Prime Hunters, Metroid Fusion, Metroid Zero Mission, Super Smash Bros Brawl, Super Smash Bros Melee, Star Fox DS, Pikmin, PokemoN Ruby/Saphire/Emerald, Pokemon FireRed/LeafGreen, Pokemon Diamond/Pearl/Platinum, Pokemon HeartGold/SoulSilver, Eternal Darkness, Advance Wars, Advance Wars: Black Hole Rising, Advance Wars Dual Strike, Advance Wars Day of Ruin... and that's not even half the list... and that isn't enough for you?
Your point aside, Star Fox DS is awful. Horrible controls, oh how i've tried to like that game. I also don't like the focus on all range mode. IMO the only good Star Fox games was the SNES original and the fantastic N64 version. That was Star Fox at his best.
Also, from your main post list, i'm interested in Sin and Punishment 2. But I feel Nintendo is milking Zelda far too hard now. They are taking that special thing away from it.
It's getting to be a thing to keep up, it's like after FF7 (or 8) when Square were talking about several FF in one go. I remember thinking exactly which one of these is the 'final' fantasy'. Now Square are milking FF with spin-offs as well.

2. Casuals/non-gamers will buy into any given gimmick.

THE GRAFIX consoles are also THE BEST GAMES consoles ;)Sorry to offend you, I meant to say "TEH GRAFIX consoles".
[QUOTE="Willy105"]A brand new 2D Mario console game, a sequel to a 3D Mario game, first time there was more than one Mario in one system since the SNES, and a reboot of the Metroid series by an outside developer who is known for fighting games? I don't know if you realize this, but what they have done this past year is completely against what they have been doing for the past 15 years. You must have made some really wild predictions and gotten them right.Sky-
I meant that in terms of the sheer lack of risk they have taken this generation. You don't need a crystal ball to predict that there will be a new Mario, Metroid, or Zelda. Nintendo has some of the best talent in the industry, yet they have relied on those big three for well over a decade and they have not created any new IPs that have the potential to be on the level of their big three both in sales and quality.
To sum up: I am not as easily blinded by Nintendo as some of their other fans are. Getting their big three in one year is great and all...but what else? Is that all they can do?
The obvious answer if yes that's pretty much all they ever do. Sheep get in an uproar once every 3 years over over Mario, Metroid, & Zelda like clock work it's sad. They've milked Mario so much he's one dried up plumber how many Wii games have mario in it? But who can blame them most people that own a Wii really only bought it for those titles. Looking at the top Wii game list one would assume that the Wii is made for little kids with the odd Wii Fit / Sports for the odd time the adults want to play and that assumption is more than likely 100% correct.Nothing has been released so how can they be redeemed? That's like saying everytime Sony gives us a release date for GT5 they have been redeemed. Nintendo is notorious for pulling their titles after giving release dates.......I'll believe it when I see it (that being Mario, Metriod and Zelda in a 6 month period).Oh yeah, baby, Nintendo is back, and how. Not any more. Their new policy is to reveal a title only when it's in the final stages of development so that it can be released on the projected release date. That's what they did with New Super Mario Bros Wii. With The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks. With Metroid: Other M (which has purpotedly been in development since before the Wii's release) and with Super Mario Galaxy 2. So no, your point does not stand.
I left them behind when I grew up. 10 bucks says the new Zelda plays just like Ocarina on N64. As much as I love Zelda, the series has reaally started to stagnate lately.Where did nintendo go :?

For the console Zeldas: Of course. For the most part, they have been following the same formula that A Link to the Past set. Regarding the actual gameplay itself, Link still plays more or less the same way he did in OoT.

Of course they did! i mean, you could control Link with a stylus while doing horseback combat on a boat before turning into a wolf and riding a train to restart the game at day 1 again. Not to mention every dungeon has had the same layout.

Again, it makes me curious why Nintendo is bad because Zelda games are similar but microsoft isn't bad for having clone Halo games, sony isn't bad for GOW3 being identical in gameplay to GOW1/2. And MW2 is still a huge selling an critically loved game even though it's nigh-identical to MW1 except shorter and with less features.

Nice list, but I can't say I'm interested in anything other than Prince of Persia and The Legend of Zelda.

The fact that Zelda has been around for 20+ years changes the situation quite a bit.
People look at the time frame and game play but never really look into the actual changes between games.

Many of those titles interest me greatly. Already have SMG2, Pokemon Soul Silver and Arc Rise: Fantasia pre-ordered. Also thinking about Sin and Punishment 2 and perhaps Monster Hunter 3.
I really, really hope they localize Tales of Graces though. That's the game I want badly. I hope Namco localizes it and fixes those bugs.
