They are also the only real triple A company that makes straight up platformers, outside of Ubisoft who make Rayman. Otherwise it's a bunch of indie devs that make platformer games, and while I'm not saying Nintendo games aren't fantastic(Super Mario Galaxy 2 is fantastic), but being "the king" over a bunch of studios who don't have access to even a fifth of the resources Nintendo has isn't really impressive. Plus Galaxy 2 is amazing, but I'd side with Super Meat Boy as far as the best platformer from gen 7/current generation/previous generation whichever f*cking word you use to describe the 360/PS3/Wii era of games.

Would not call the FPS genre the simplest, stales, or most boring. I actually like plenty of FPS games, but I was referring to the tendency of FPS games in the wake of the success from CoD, Halo, etc. to be a "me-too" genre with plenty of generic, derivative games being released in that fashion even to the point where IPs that started out as something else are made generic shooters to cash in on the success.Â
Ironically, this is quite similar to what platformers went through in the late 80s/early 90s following the success of Mario, Sonic, etc. where you had a glut of platformers including licensed games where it didn't even make a shred of sense. But with both FPS and platformers you can find plenty of great original titles - and plenty of bland derivative titles so they have that in common I think.

Played Super Star Road a few weeks ago. Beat Tubular on my third try after like, 5-6 years of not playing.

Played Super Star Road a few weeks ago. Beat Tubular on my third try after like, 5-6 years of not playing. There's a certain degree of muscle memory after playing the game enough. I could run through the whole special world without losing a life right now, and it's been at least a year since I played.
