I'm fine with that.

Good god, you're an idiot. I would love to plop down some of these kids in front of Tubular, since the genre is so damn easy apparently. :lol:What a convincing statement.

Platformers also require more ability than press A, plus most of them are harder than FPS.GD1551

Well it depends on the particular game doesn't it? Platformers can involve a lot more than running and jumping - they can have a variety power-ups, weapons, enemy types that require different tactics to beat, exploration/hidden areas, collection, puzzles, an array of parkour like acrobatic moves, timing, etc. There's a lot of gameplay elements that can be woven into a good platformer.
King of the simplest, stalest, most boring genre ever? They can keep that crown honestly.

Oh? And other genres are any different?

Can't think of a modern platformer that has those mechanics right now tbh. However there are many games that have platforming as a secondary mechanic.

Well, most of those were when I was younger and pretty much tolerated anything.
In other words, you stopped having fun playing games.
Yep, Nintendo is king of the greatest genre known to gaming. I agree. The only competition they have in this category these days is from Rayman. Otherwise it's a complete lock for them.
I feel like platformers are gaming in it's purest form. I've always said the three most important aspects for a game are Gameplay, level design, and challenge. All three aspects are exclusive to this medium and are timeless. Platformers depend on these three elements more than almost every other genre. If one is lacking, it's extremely noticeable.
I cant think of a company that has more top tier platformers under their belt. Â Not even one that comes close.

Well pick the one you think is best out of those and list them. Â
Little Big Planet? Â Ratchet and Clank? Â Sony has this.

Yeah the Wii U has just had hit after hit right? Brainwashed clowns my god
Outright attacking the opinions of others without much to back your antagonising views and resorting to name-calling... I can tell you're a very intelligent person.
But alas, this is system wars. Logic and legitimate discussion is not to be found here.

I did, I listed Universal, Ubisoft, Activision, Sega, Crystal Dynamics, and then maybe, maybe Ubisoft, although that depends on what you think PoP is. Why? Because I think they have better platformers? Or do you just want me to list games?3D platformers, maybe. 2D platformers idk, Ubisoft and Frozenbyte have done some good stuff and probably other developers too.
They could also be the video game industry leaders and loved by many if they wanted so...
But several mistakes in the past and continued insistance on not listening to what the consumer actually wants has brought them in the position they are today in. (which is not so bad position due to good handheld sales and lots of cash due to excellent Wii and DS sales but a uncertain one at that as far as future is concerned)
King of the simplest, stalest, most boring genre ever? They can keep that crown honestly.

Â
Platformers, if done right, can easily match the "biggest" genres like RPGs, action-adventures, strategies, ect. when it comes to pure gameplay and polish.
Think why there's so little good (or any, really) 3D platformers out there today - not only because gamers rather pick lame generic FPS games, but also because making a really good 3D platformer is a tough job.
Over their entire history? Yes obviously they rule the genre. Today, they win 3D platformers by default (though only make one or two per system) since no one else makes them. 2D they are still very good but I had more fun with some XBLA titles like Super Meat Boy and Splosian Man and Braid, then most of their Wii ones.Â
