After the reach that was Joker, now we are talking.

Both new characters fit in the game with their history of Nintendo and the reputations of their series.

The Dragon Quest series is Japan's most popular franchise, and looking at overall gross, tops even Final Fantasy in revenue. To not only put in Erdrick (both of them) but two more heroes, while the rest of heroes are in the Kazapple final smash is a brilliant move. And their moveset can be the biggest in the game with selectable spells and moves. I actually expect this DLC pack to be Smash's best selling despite less buzz in the West.

Banjo Kazooie are an N64 icon and they fit right in Smash Bros. So we get a Microsoft character with Nintendo history. Nice. And now Smash Bros really represents Rare's history.

So we have one reveal for Japan and one for the West, another great strategy by Nintendo. And Dragon Quest may actually finally be able to breakthrough.

Now lets hope the next two DLC are good selections, unlike Joker. I actually think that perhaps the Rabbids may be coming. They too have Nintendo history.

I like the Joker character myself but yeah the Dragon Quest characters and Banjo-Kazooie are two excellent additions.

It was very smart to announce both Erdrick and Banjo-Kazooie at the same time, because Erdrick has greater Japan appeal whereas Banjo has greater Western appeal. I believe both ends of the globe are very happy today for these characters.

I disagree with what you say on Joker, because he's been an awesome addition and it's great having Persona in the series.

Banjo is definitely a good pick.

If one of the next two DLC characters is not Crash Bandicoot though then Nintendo dropped the ball especially given Crash's resurgence in popularity over the last 2 years.

At this rate I don't really mind what the last two will end up being because Banjo-Kazooie was the ultimate dream addition after so many years.

I think Crash would be a great pick, although it would not be the end of the world to me if he didn't make it. Other popular choices I hear about in the leak/speculation world seems to point towards Doom or Resident Evil making it into the game. I think they'd all be great picks.

The leak speculation world is unreliable.

The DQ Hero DLC was basically datamined and Banjo was leaked by insider information only CLOSE to his reveal. I only put stock in datamines or reliable leakers.

The "leak" that had Doomguy was disproven.

People are underestimating the Rabbids chances, for example.

The two new ones are great additions. Love that we finally got Banjo. And the hero from DQXI looks pretty cool as well. It's getting more likely that I'll get the character pass thingy now. Wonder what else is coming..

Eh... still hoping to see Chris Redfield or Jill Valentine from RE Remake given it was Nintendo exclusive for about 12 years.

I did this on Twitter, but...

Solid Snake: The most surprising Smash reveal ev...

Cloud: Hold my Phoenix Down!

Kazooie: *translated from gibberish* Both of you bozos hold our honey...

Now I kind of want Joanna Dark to appear in Smash one day, maybe face off against Solid Snake in her reveal if they ever do it.

I just gotta say "duh" to that one. The leak culture behind Smash Bros. should always be taken with a grain of salt and many get debunked. Fake leakers are also getting increasingly elaborate with how they construct their "evidence" to boost their believability. But with that said, for Smash fans that all have their dream fighters that they want in the game, it's still a fun way to be engaged while we wait for any official announcements.

With that said, leakers have gotten all of the fighters in the base roster before their initial announcements. Ridley, King K. Rool, Simon Belmont, Isabelle, Chrom, Ken and Incineroar were all leaked before any of their announcements. Sometimes they get them right - it just boils down to who is leaking this information, and some are more legit than others.

The Dragon Quest Hero datamine is still a leak, and it has been known for a long time, and so has Banjo-Kazooie. Banjo's odds became increasingly stronger ever since Phil Spencer started talking about Smash Bros. and his willingness to put Banjo in the game well over a year ago. It was not just a recent leak development. It was an ongoing conversation that high-ups had over Twitter that brought Banjo's odds even greater.

But like you say - despite all I have said - yes, leaks shall be taken with a grain of salt. There are plenty of fakers out there that just want attention; but also, leaks have come true depending on the people that are doing them.

Doom and Resident Evil have swirled around and I think they'd be great choices, but I can't give complete merit on either of their odds based on all the leaks I've seen (I wouldn't bet on them that's for sure). I've also heard a lot about Tekken and Ninja Gaiden reps - also good choices but I wouldn't put my money down on them. I've heard not much about Rabbids but I have certainly heard about Rayman. I feel like he would be a cool choice but unlikely since he's already a Spirit in the game. At that same rate, Super Smash Bros. has a broad history of breaking its own rules. There was a time a rule of "no 3rd-party characters" was in effect, and then Solid Snake came. Perhaps "Spirits can't be fighters" can be broken too for a character like Rayman. Or even Waluigi despite having an assist trophy. I think Nintendo is very aware at this point how bad people wanted Waluigi to be a fighter in the game, and if they can't put him in this time then he's definitely locked as a fighter now when they make the next Smash game. Chrom is definitely a rule-broken character, considering he also appears in another fighter's Final Smash.

After all my rambling here, though - I feel like Travis Touchdown can be a very notable choice and with great merits behind it too. No More Heroes games have all debuted on Nintendo hardware, and it would be great timing to have Travis in Smash when No More Heroes III is closer to launch.

The Dragon Quest Hero announcement surprised me. I had heard people say they thought a DQ character was inbound, but I didn't think it would actually happen. But if there had to be yet another swordsman character, that was the one to add.

Being able to further select the heroes of 11, 3, 4 or 8 really added to the awesomeness. I'm not sure how Hero will play compared to other characters until he's in the game, but I honestly see myself playing as him a lot.

I wasn't as excited for Banjo and Kazooie when I heard people say they thought that was the next fighter, but seeing them in the E3 video made me happier than I thought it would. I am still definitely more happy about DQ in Smash, but this was also a good choice.

I have a feeling they also put Dragon Quest Heroes just to shut the Dragon Ball fans up (Akira Toriyama does the art for the Dragon quest games and many DQ heroes look similar to Dragon Ball characters).

It was an essential choice. Smash Bros is missing something without Dragon Quest.

The West simply does not know the significance of the series so they whine and complain and there has been a bit of that with the reveal.

Meh, Persona 5 is a beloved game by Sakurai- I always think of Joker being his pick. And that's fine by me, I think he deserves one character he really wants.

But there needs to be more strategy behind this. We still do not have P5 announced on Switch.

I guarantee that Joker may end up being the worst selling character in the pack.

That's what I said about Cloud in SSB4, but @charizard1605 proved me super wrong on that. And Cloud's main game eventually made it to the Switch anyway, so... eh

For starters, I thought Joker was an awesome choice to put in the game, but I may be biased considering how amazing I think Persona 5 is.

Secondly, I'm sure Joker will do just fine as far as purchases go. Even if he did not have the game recognition, since he's been out he's been proving to be a high-tier fighter. So if anything, the competitive crowd will be eating him up and some may say he's top-tier if not high-tier.

Piranha Plant is the one you need to be looking at as far as getting fewer sales go. Piranha Plant is not even a part of the Fighter's Pass and comes with no new stage or music. Piranha Plant has proven to be a lower-tier fighter, and thus will be getting the fewest sales of all the DLC fighters.

Sometimes your favorite fighters in a Smash Bros. game is not about who's the most popular or well-recognized. Just look at Melee back in the day when Roy and Marth were extremely popular despite not having Fire Emblem in the states at the time. They were well-received based on how well they played. The favorite fighters ultimately depend on their placements on the tier list.
