WiiU promised a lot, and I was a day 1 buyer. Worst video game purchase I've ever made.
Nintendo is going to have to show me a good 1st year with the NX, and an even better 2nd year, with all the multiplats and excellent 1st party offerings and 3rd party exclusives before I'd even consider.
The timing makes sense, it can't really be any later than '16. The NX is only slightly more powerful than PS4 which is already 3 years old. Pretty soon you won't be able to buy hardware that weak.
so..they release the Wii...then the WiiU with the exact name, appearance and zero advertisement to actually make it look new over the actual Wii.NOW a 3 years later they want to desperately release yet another console? LOL!!! im seeing SEGA all over again here..I have zero faith in Nin.I lost all my love for anything new from Nin after the N64.I simply could not care less for them at this point. Prove an old fan wrong and we'll go from there.
Man, I wish people would stop talking about the thing as if they actually know what they are talking about.

How long has in theory Nintendo had to work on new projects for the nx? Nintendo dropped a clanger with WiiU and had just Mario for launch and then zero games till March.
The earliest that we know is the 3D Mario team, which was developing a mainline Mario 3D game (not Captain Toad) as soon as 3D World was done, back in 2013.
I think they're going to be too late to the party. I can't imagine them showing something so new, and innovating that they'll be proper competitors for the Xbox One and PS4.
Since when has Nintendo cared what its competitors have done? they have and will continue to do their own thing. I just hope what they come up with next will be more successful. Though not having to use the TV to use the system is one of the best things about the Wii U.
Nintendo better start caring what its competitors are doing.
Why? The PS4 can't even match the hype or sales of the Wii in its prime. I don't think Nintendo is looking at a dying console market and saying, oh yeah what it needs is the Nintendo version of the PS4! You see, they tried that already. Gamecube anyone? Wii U anyone? When Nintendo tries to be the competition they fail. When they branch out and do something new, they succeed.
Back to the Wii again. Its hype and sales were not based on a sustainable market, but of one that held no interest in Nintendo's core offerings, as has been demonstrated by a NINETY PERCENT decrease from the Wii to the U.
Also, you fail to recognize other factors that led to GCN's and U's troubles: mini-discs? Outdated online? Anti-consumer practices? Weak hardware? No Western focus? Depending far too much on old IPs? Being far too conservative? Being unable and unwilling to work with third parties? These problems have gone unaddressed for years. Nintendo's never fully played ball nor has even gotten close to what Sony and MS have long ago in many respects, so let's not be a revisionist here in pretending Nintendo's done the same in the past so as to better suit your argument.
Besides, you seem to think that if Nintendo cares about what its competition is doing that that automatically would mean they would start copying them. I'm not saying that, but they need to be aware of where the industry is, and what people want so they can begin offering parity (in whatever form they wish). Nintendo's not suffering because they're different, they're suffering because they're worse. Their success has little to do with them being the same or different, and has much more to do with acumen, philosophy, and execution.

Most of the conversations here are based on speculation. In fact your topic is based on speculation. If you have a problem with conjecture you really shouldn't be visiting System Wars.
It'll be good. Hardware wise at least. My biggest fear though is what they will try to pull off with the controller. Worst case scenario is that the controller has no buttons. I bet people will be BEGGING for Wii U gamepad support then. I bet people will be loving that thing if this happens.
Honestly I don't give two shits about how relatively shitty the power of a console is in comparison two the twins. Just give me great games and I'm on board. That's one thing that Nintendo has never (almost) faltered on.
I have loved every Zelda (yes, even Skyward Sword), and while I don't dismiss the shortcomings of their games, or the fact that they should look to create more intellectual properties, it's pretty hard to deny the resume that Nintendo has when it comes to producing quality exclusives.
In fact, people often forgot that even within franchises Nintendo often innovates and introduces new mechanics. I don't care if they keep pumping out Mario platformers as long as those platformers consistently bring something new to the table, which they almost always do.

Ya if they use that controller design on the patent they filed, I will be very sad... Hopefully gamecube controlled support :3

This topic is based on speculation regarding the system's release date, based on reports and rumours. You went ahead and assumed that the NX will be only slightly more powerful than the PS4, even though reports seem to suggest otherwise.

I assume you are talking about yourself? Its ok if you disagree but dont try and act like your opinion is the only right one and everyone else is ignorant. Im sure ive been gaming and alive longer than you and probably most on this site.Ive lived through every console decade.ive lived through the arcade days.i made it through the game crash.AND ive seen what failure looks like..AND Nin looks like failure and has since the Wii. Regardless of sales. Horrible movies make millions of $$ "Avatar"..That dont mean they are good. It means someone had to buy and try it to see..Same with horrible music sales"Bieber"..AND same with games and consoles. People were intrigued with the Wii..it sold well..but everyone ended up hating it,selling it,and never playing it again. NIN has failed and will continue to unless they get off their high horse and listen to the gamers..OH and im giving the the Gamecube a pass just because they did put out a few decent games..BUT the controller was atrocious as was the N64 controller..NIN just cant get it.

I don't think mini discs mattered at all. The disparity between those discs and dvd is smaller than between blu ray and 360's 6.8 - 7.8 gb dvd's, and they allowed for fast load times.
The biggest reason the gamecube didn't do better was the purple lunchbox image. Online could've helped some near the middle of the generation, but I don't know how much that would have changed things. Gamecube got pretty good multiplat support, the biggest omission was gta. It definitely had a western focus and it was the most capable console that generation. I think some of those you meant to say about the Wii U, but just to be clear. As far as the gamecube is concerned, I think the only thing they did wrong was not tackle their kiddie image.
As for anti consumer stuff, they're all guilty. Sony doing what they did with ps2 classics instead of BC, Microsoft trying to brick game discs and have always online, the 360 hardware design and expensive peripherals etc. etc. I will say Nintendo better end region locking this time....
Let's all remember the year 2016, the year Nintendo fell from grace. Now sheep cool your jets cause I can hear your undies twisting from were I'm sitting, not only is the NX coming out waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too soon, Nintendo gave everyone the double middle finger who supported the Wii U the past 3 years and 2 months (give or take). I love Nintendo but I'm not gonna buy into a console if there's a chance they are gonna abandon it like the Wii U or lack dev support which is starting to become a norm for Nintendo consoles, which sucks cause Platinum and Monolith has shown you can make some amazing games on their consoles.
They need to make the next Zelda cross-gen plus bring the handful of great Wii U titles to the NX and Im aboard, I'd like to see a Nintendo console that is exciting again.
Well, color me excited. I said I'd never buy another console at launch again. I lied. I will for Nintendo even though it would probably be a stupid move.

People bought the Wii (for the first 3 years) but did not stick with it. A lot of the Nintendo boys seem to ignore that little caveat. Does anyone here believe the PS4 will suddenly go belly-up once the 2016 holiday season comes?
They will have a system seller at launch. Zelda will maybe arrive in the platform, but Nintendo will certainly have a few must have games. My guess is an all new Mario and Fzero
I'm pretty hyped. I've actually been spending a lot more time with my 3DS lately. Falling inlove with Nintendo's franchises all over again. I'm moving through the back catalog and enjoying Fire Emblem Awakening and Majora's Mask right now. I really would like a wii u but my girlfriend has one so I'm just going to wait until I move in with her this summer, especially since the NX is likely on the horizon.
All I'm hoping for is a new Metroid title and for the new Zelda to be on it.
WiiU promised a lot, and I was a day 1 buyer. Worst video game purchase I've ever made.

The hype was with IBM and their PowerCrap CPUs. AMD's quad-core Jaguar solution with Radeon HD 8570M (6 CU, 384 stream processors) would have been better solution i.e. straight scale down from XBO era games.
I have Samsung ATIV 730U3E ultrabook with Intel Core i5 3337U(dual core/4 threads, 15 watts) with Radeon HD 8570M (6 CU, 15 watts) which still runs XBO era games.
Both Nintendo's Wii U and Microsoft's XBO made common mistakes i.e. embedded memory consumed about half of the main chip area size.
Without the 32MB EDRAM, Wii U could have 8 CU/640 stream processors/Radeon HD 4770 level GPU.
Without the 32MB ESRAM, XBO could have 28 CU/1792 stream processor GCN level GPU.
PS4'a APU is smaller than XBO's APU and PS4 still has superior performance over XBO.
Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo must select the correct IP blocks that maximises performance within their cost budget.
For the 8th generation consoles, Sony has "chosen wisely" for their budget.
@charizard1605: Thanks. So by the time its released games could been in development for 3 years. Suppose Retro havent worked on anything big since Donkey Kong and isnt Pikmin 4 still not confirmed for a specific console?

Yep. Pikmin 4 has no system announced, and Retro will not have launched a game for nearly three years by the time the NX launches. Same goes for Nintendo EAD Tokyo, actually.
@Solaryellow: Did not stick with it? What is that supposed to mean?
People bought it, played it a little and that was that. It had a much lower tie-ratio compared to its competition that it outsold hardware wise.
Some people have called it a fad and I can't bring myself to use that classification......just yet.
It had a comparable tie ratio to Xbox 360 and PS3. Its tie ratio was 9 games sold per console, which for the bulk of the generation was actually higher than the PS3's (though the PS3 pulled back starting 2010). I don't know where this idea that the Wii sold no software beyond Wii Sports comes from, when some of the highest selling games of all time are on it.
With all of this said, I will agree the Wii was a fad.
The ratio is not exactly what I'd call as comparable. 1.5-2.1 is a decent amount especially when the Wii outsold the PS3/360 by fifteen million give or take. Think about it in terms of cash money and how the sales of two games equates to a lot of it.
The Wii had a lot of software sales to be sure but Wii Sports (last I checked) was still the king of the mountain. The next game in line, Mario Kart Wii, is still over forty million behind.
I hope it turns out good. If Nintendo can put out a powerful console at a reasonable price with Zelda and/or Metroid at launch I'm in. And of course no over the top gimmicks.
@NathanDrakeSwag: What would be an 'over the top gimmick' in your opinion? Genuinely curious where you put the threshold.
A gimmick that affects the entire console and the way games are played on it like motion controls. I just want something more traditional. As for what the NX could have that would turn me off is if touch controls mobile style is a big part of it.

That makes sense. So, say, something like the DualShock 4 or the 3DS, where the gimmickry is there, but it doesn't get in the way actively, is acceptable, but something that actively hamstrings the console, like the original Wii (or going with all touch for controllers) is not.

Yeah exactly. I don't mind a bit of experimentation but I don't want to see them try and reinvent the wheel.
rofflcopter! No, not even remotely close in the case of the Bone. There was a leak that told us it would be Kinect only TV controller with low range specs like almost a year before the reveal.
Yup. The Road to Fortaleza document leaked everything, even Hololens back in 2012.
