Ouch...the recession is hitting Nintendo hard. Discuss!
This topic is locked from further discussion.
They are down from last year because they released Smash Bros. Brawl last year and this year they didnt really release anything in Q1.
Well, Wii owners (like myself) are also really tired of Mario, Wii *insert name*, Metroid, and Zelda shoved down our throats. What we need is either a new IP and/or a ressurection of dead IP's such as Star Fox and F-Zero.nintendoboy16that is just wrong WSR already sold about 800k in japan and the european and NA numbers which are not out yet will probably be similar.. new mario bros and metroid prime triology will sell a lot as well actually Punchout a ressurected franchise did not do all that well.. (of course it sold something like 300k in the US which is what Nintendo projected.. but still its no where near any of the Wii XX titles)

Wii Sports Resort is a great game and nothing is being "shoved down our throats". If you pay attention, you would see that the Wii has loads of other games.

They had 2 Star Fox last gen and one Star Fox on the DS this gen. Last gen their was 3 F-Zero's 1 in the Arcades, 1 on the GCN, and 1 on the GBA. Nintendo also made 14 new IPs on Wii this gen. They made 12 for the GCN. I didn't even include Wiiware New IPs. Or DS new IPs because if you include the DS Nintendo made 45 new IPs this gen so far not counting Wiiware or DSiware.
1. Disaster Day of Crisis (Not good though) (1st Party)
2. Project H.A.M.M.E.R. (Not released thought to be cancelled but the people working on it say it is still in development) (1st Party)
3. Monado: Beginning of the World (Not Released announced at E32009) (1st Party)
4. Line Attack Heroes (Not Released shown off at Nintendo's conference on October 2nd, 200 (Might be first Party but I don't know yet Nintendo does own the IP)
5. Spawn Smasher (Not Released yet) (2nd Party but Nintendo owns the IP)
6. Dynamic Slash (Not Released yet) (2nd Party Nintendo owns the IP, it is developed by Sandlot the team behind Earth Defense Force series)
7. Wii Series (Includes Wii Sports, Play, Fit, Chess, Music, Sports Resport, and Fit Plus.)
8. Endless Ocean (2nd Party)
9. Captain Rainbow (2nd Party)
10. Cosmic Walker (Not Released yet) (2nd Party)
11. Kensax (2nd Party) (Not Released Yet I think)
12. Me and the Cubes (Wiiware I think Not released shown at E3 2009) (1st Party I think)
13. Start W/ 100 Conversations! English Conversation (Japan Only I think and I doubt it would be considered a real game) (I'm not sure if it is 1st or 2nd Party)
14. Everyones the Star on the NHK Red-and-White Quiz Battle (Same as what I listed 13th.)
I'm pretty sure a 50% decrease in sales is something. :?

Can't really aruge with you there, but that being said, I think it's important to dig deeper as to why it's been such a 'slow' year for Nintendo thus far. First of all, we have to keep in mind that last year was a record-setting year for the company in terms of sales, and the first half was fueled by three must-have games in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Mario Kart Wii, and Wii Fit. Those three games alone was able to do serious damage, with Mario Kart and Wii Fit having a lasting effect throughout all of last year and this year. Heck, those two games are among the top selling games of this year, as well, with Wii Fit being first and MKWii at fourth. On the other hand, what big name titles has Nintendo put up this year? Punch-Out? Talk about night and day, with all due respect to the recent Punch-Out installment.
So yeah... it's really no surprise that Nintendo is seeing decreases in sales right now, and that will remain until the company brings out some bigger guns. That being said, the entire industry is suffering right now, and to see Nintendo still making significant profit at the moment is shocking in itself. A lot of people may not like what Nintendo is doing, but that doesn't mean that it didn't have a great business model coming into this gen.

Little Kings Story wasn't.you implying that the conduit is better than LKS ? contrary to what you believe mario, zelda, and metroid are still awesome frnachises. hell the wii still hasn't seen it's first exclusive zelda yet. How is it being shoved down our throats?
If the recession were the cause of this drop, then the Wii and DS would share similar numbers... but the Wii is much lower than the DS, which says something.
