Down the road it is the software that speaks for the console. It is ironic that 3DS was sort of in the same boat when it first launched. Fast forward to today and it is, imo, the best game device out there right now. Nintendo can turn things around.

Nintendo should stop making consoles imho , put all the efforts and money to push 3DS further since they are kings in handheld gaming and make all their top notch consoles games , multiplatform.
I think if Nintendo ever goes that way will make way more $$ .
And once again, the overestimation of Nintendo's handheld department continues, as well as the mentioning of "THAT" sell out move that would only end up making it worse.
Explain how what i said will make it worse ? Do you know what big of a loss will be for Wii U to be discontinued ? That would be a big slap since Nintendo signed multimillion contracts with other companies for hardware. If Wii U fails theyll still need to pay lets say AMD and other companies. You cant brake these contracts just because you discontinued your console ..
So massive amount of 3ds profits will go there to fill that gap. I bet they already doing this. Then what ? Whats the future for Nintendo ? If Wii U fails the only way is to multiplatform their console games and focus on handheld gaming OR try again with a new console which that will be a huge bet because if next one fails as well ... Well then youll understand what really means worse for a company.
Sadly the only( major even ) incomes coming from gaming and video gaming for Nintendo. If they do bad with something , it has huge impact. M$ and Sony can stand huge losses , Nintendo cant stand such thing for too long. For example , if N had Sony losses of 5 billions that Sony had 4 years go ... They would bankrupt 100%. Sony didnt.

I've said it numerous times over in other threads, but it's due to different audience appeals (generally) on each system. How many PlayStation fans would even care about Mario as long as Ratchet and Clank and LittleBIG are still around? How many of other console owners would even care about Smash when the other fighting games are still around? How would they compare to even the big third parties (Activision, Capcom, Ubisoft, Bethesda, EA) that have an audience on those systems? Not many, and this comes from someone who games on multiple systems (360, PS2, and on occasion, PC). Heck, look at even the sales charts of each system.
There's also a possibility of their work going down in quality.
@nintendoboy16: That's because you're a greedy and selfish fanboy. Your attempts at looking unbiased aren't fooling anyone, especially since all you do is come into Nintendo based threads and cry and play the victim, begging people to just leave Nintendo alone.
I see they still dont really have a clue on how to sell asynchroness gameplay. Which is fine I suppose, but for me its what got me excited for wii u.

All those people that are Nintendo fans will eventually be forced to buy lets say for example a PS5 or X2 assuming Nintendo will leave console war. So arent all those people still Nintendo fans? Arent all those people mario/zelda future purchasers ?
You sound like if there wont be any future Nintendo console in the future ( ypothetically ) all those Nintendo fans around the world wont buy other console. I think thats not the case. I dont get your logic

Oh really? I tell people to leave Nintendo alone? Is that why even I will criticize them when I feel there's something absolutely STUPID (like at VGX, as, much as I want to play as Cranky Kong, KNEW it was a stupid thing to show at a GAME AWARDS SHOW, not to mention, I'm not even defending Hyrule Warriors)?
Funny how you call me a selfish fanboy too...

Or they'll move on to something else considering how much is on the other systems. I know I'll be playing other stuff when they go.
It's hard for a gaming-only company to compete with Sony and Microsoft, they have 3 options imo.
1.Try and replicate Wii success (This is the Wii U)
2.Make a cheap console (200 dollars max)
3.Go third party
There are huge Pro's and huge Con's to this and i think this should obviously only be done as an absolute worst case scenario where they are bleeding money with their hardware.
Pro's
-Dont have to waste time or money on R&D
-Dont have to waste time or money on online networks
-Dont have to waste time or money on operating systems/User interfaces
-Dont have to take losses on hardware
-Dont have to rush out games to fill droughts for struggling hardware
-Nintendo devs get to work on superior hardware
-Nintendo devs get to work on superior online networks
-Focus on games
Cons
-They might go full Square Enix and try to become a mobile publisher, this would be a disaster for EVERYONE (Never go full Square Enix)
-They would probably have to lay off a bunch of people (cant make 5+ Mario games a year anymore....probably)
-They would have to compete with third party games directly
-They couldn't focus on a single platform anymore
-They would have to give Sony/MS license fee's.
-They wouldn't be able to have Wii/DS type profits again.
The con's here are very scary to me.
Well I'm glad they're finally trying to convey this. I've talked to 3 different people who thought it was just a tablet peripheral for the Wii.
Should have named it something else.
@AzatiS: Nintendoboy would rather see Nintendo die instead of seeing their games on other platforms. He's as greedy and selfish as it gets. It's really sad and pathetic to be honest.

Its like saying you playing Mario and Zelda or any other high quality N exclusive because is exclusive ... Why you think all those fans plus many more newcomers wont buy Mario/Zelda titles ?
For example i never ever owned a Nintendo console nor i ever will. I dont like Nintendo as a company. But if Zelda ever finds its way to other platforms , ill gladly buy it. Do you think arent many people like me out there ?! I think there are some millions ...

He kind of has a point. You can't say for sure how they'd take to being third party, so to say you'd rather they go out of business instead of going multiplatform does come off as a bit fanboyish. I'm not saying they'll thrive as a third party developer, but I'd much rather see them try and fail as opposed to simply going under.

I dislike Nintendo for many reasons you wont even understand. Doesnt mean i wont like some of their games or i should be a blind fanboy liking only what i can play while hating everything i cant ... That also *brain full of * isnt ?

I'm not going that FAR. Knowing Nintendo's history, they can just leave the industry and find another business.
I just feel the risk for them to go third party and fail is too high. So high, they should say "screw it" and leave with a surviving legacy, rather than kill whatever they have left.
Or they'll move on to something else considering how much is on the other systems. I know I'll be playing other stuff when they go.

So, by that logic, Square fans aren't "true" Square fans because they refuse to buy their iOS games? Similarly, Star Wars fans who refuse to watch the Clone Wars, the prequels, or even play some games even if they suck aren't "true" Star Wars fans because they hate how George Lucas/Disney is handling it?
I just find it mind fumbling that one would hate a company on unspeakable levels, yet would buy something from that company they hate.

What square has to do with Nintendo a god knows. What console gaming has to do with iOS gaming and what major and biggest/best Nintendo exclusives have to do with Square iOS games ?!! Then you bringing an example about a Star Wars prequel that sucks or why some fans wont find something true to the series therefore they wont buy it....
What the heck you talking about when my point to begin with is that Nintendo might have way better profits by going third party as a console gaming developer/publisher and focus on handheld gaming which N is the undeniable ruler ?! Are my english that bad or what im missing here ?
Also where did i say i hate Nintendo on unspeakable levels? What the heck is goin on with you ?! haha

I was bringing up what I get out of your logic by making a comparison. If I stop supporting Nintendo because I see nothing good coming out of their multiplatform phase, you say I'm not a true Nintendo fan. I brought up the Square Enix/Star Wars situations because they have similar logic among some things they have going on.
This ad will mean nothing if it never makes it to tv. Most people don't go on Nintendo yt channel just to check it out.
Whoever said they should go 3rd party, I'd have to disagree. Nintendo games on a Sony platform don't have the same appeal. Kinda like sega. Nintendo tailors their consoles to their games, not 3rd party or 3rd party machines. Before they went 3rd party they would go handheld only or just bow out. Nintendo is a very prideful company and to put the plumber or Zelda on another console would be to much for them imo.

*cough* Should look at yourself first *cough*
When have I acted as such? I happen to enjoy all platforms regardless of the manufacturer. Sure I've partaken in the occasional trolling, but it was never more than that. Good attempt though.
